Funeral services for Dora L. Simon of Madison were held on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, from Southern Funeral Home chapel in Lexington at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Castell officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Cemetery in Tchula.
Mrs. Simon died on Saturday, December 3, 2005, at Tennessee, of natural causes. Born in Acona, Tennessee and daughter, Margaret Murphree, and husband, Boyd, of Tallahassee, Mississippi, the son of the late S. C. Ray and Ruby Fisher Ray. He was a retired auditor with the State Tax Commission, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Durant First United Methodist Church.
Graveside service was held on Saturday, November 26, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Mizpah Cemetery in Durant with Rev. Johnny Dinas officiating.
Pallbearers were Martin Frazure, Jackie Killebrew, Billy Lewis, Steve (Duck) Rucker, Bubba Henderson, and Larry Mayo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne T. Ray. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Norman Walker Mangum

Age: 78
Norman Walker Mangum, 78, died on Friday, January 6, 2006 at his residence in Lexington.
Graveside service was held on Monday, January 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton, Arkansas with Rev. Ricky Reese officiating.
Mr. Mangum was born on July 1, 1927 in Itta Bena, the son of Joe N. Mangum and Birgie White Mangum. He was a contractor with Helena Electric. Mr. Mangum served with the Navy in World War II, and was a member of the Naval Reserve. He was an amateur radio operator. He was a member of Acona Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Smith Mangum, son, John Douglas Mangum, and sister, Catherine Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Britt Mangum of Lexington; three sons, Walker Mangum, Jr., and wife Nancy of Houston, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Services were held on Monday, January 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Southern Funeral Home chapel in Durant. Rev. Daniel Blaylock and Rev. Larry Odom were the officiating ministers. Burial was in Bowlin Baptist Cemetery in Sallis.
Mr. Keith, 50, was born in Holmes County on February 3, 1955, the son of Lura Keith and the late J. O. Keith. He was a member of Bowlin Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a granddaughter, Reagan Keith.
Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Keith of Goodman; his parents, Lura Keith Burrell and stepfather, Douglas Burrell of Durant; a daughter, Jessica Keith of Goodman; six sons, Joey, Steven, and Thomas Keith, all of Florence, Timmy Keith of Raymond, and James and Jacob Keith, both of Goodman; four brothers, Edward, Elbert, and Leonard Keith, all of Sallis, and Calvin Keith of Jackson; four sisters, Patsy Blaylock, Barbara Shelton, Kathy King, and Sue Thornton, all of Durant; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Randy Keith, Dennis Keith, Lynn Keith, Bo Cochran, Roger Cochran, and James King, Jr.
Doyle S. Gantt
Died: Friday, December 30, 2005
Age: 75
Doyle S. Gantt, 75, of 1304 First St., Newberry, S. C., died Friday, December 30, 2005, in Palmetto Health Richland.
Mr. Gantt was born August 20, 1930, in Vaiden, MS, a son of the late Lela Hobson and Aaron L. Gantt. He was an Army veteran of both the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired from the U. S. Army after 23 years of service with the rank of SFC and received numerous distinguished service medals. Also, he retired from the Newberry County Detention Center and was currently serving as a bailiff with the Newberry County Courthouse.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, the Men's Bible Class, the Men in Mission, Amity Masonic Lodge #87, the Newberry County York Rite Bodies, Hejaz Shrine Temple, and the Newberry Shrine Club. He served as Chaplain for American Legion Post 24 and the 40 & 8.
Mr. Gantt is survived by his wife, Nell West Gantt of Newberry; two daughters and son-in-law, Patty and Randy Leopard of Lexington and Debra and James Southerland of Little Mountain, S.C.; one sister, Nora Lee Devine of McComb, MS; one brother, Tommy Gantt of Lexington, MS; and three grandchildren, Erika, Katie, and Nicklas. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Gantt.
Funeral services for Doyle Gantt were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Steven Counts. Interment with military honors was in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Wallace Douglas Killebrew
Died: Tuesday, December 27, 2005
Age: 85
Wallace Douglas Killebrew of Green wood, 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Green wood Leflore Hospital.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 29 at Odd Fellows Mausoleum with Bro. Billy Baron officiating.
Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Green wood. Williams & Lord Funeral Home of Green wood was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Killebrew, a native of Holmes County, had made his home in Green wood since 1946. He was retired from the Federal Compress, and retired from the Green wood Cotton Exchange in 2004 where he had worked since 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Green wood.
Mr. Killebrew was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Poe Killebrew, and a daughter, Carla K. Hall.
Survivors include: two sons, David and Billy Killebrew, both of Green wood; a sister, Wilma Gnemi of Ebenezer; two brothers, Lester Killebrew of Franklin, Tennessee and Ollie Killebrew of Biloxi; five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were members of the Green wood Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Green wood Cotton Exchange.
