Zettie Cooper Genous
Died: Monday, June 05, 2006
Age: 83
Zettie Cooper-Genous, 83, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Carol Scott, in Fresno, Mississippi and Illinois where she married Elder Wade Cooper, II, later they moved to Lexington. To this union nine children were born. In 1962, she married the late Deacon Lenwood Genous and to this union three children were born.
In Lexington she was a faithful member of St. Paul Church of God in Christ where she served faithfully on the local district and state wide levels. She had a children's radio ministry, and a telephone prayer ministry.
Mother Genous moved to Fresno, TX, Bettie and Stan Bell of Austin, Price of Chicago, IL, Flex and Catherine Green wood of Sallis, MS, Ernest and Betty Alabama. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Southern Funeral Home chapel in Durant at 2 p.m. with Brother Larry Harvey officiating. Burial was in West City Cemetery in West.
Mr. Farmer was born on March 22, 1936, in Holmes County, the son of Halbert Farmer and Frances McCreary. He was retired from the Alabama, Tommy Jones and wife Sandra of Grenada; two step-daughters, Jackie Trueblood and husband Roy of Peachtree City, Mississippi Highway Patrol, active and retired.
Dona Bouchillon
Died: Saturday, May 27, 2006
Age: 90
Mrs. Dona M. Bouchillon, 90, of Durant died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the University Hospital, Lexington. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27 at the Southern Funeral Home chapel in Durant with Bro. Ed McDaniel and Bro. Matt Brady officiating. Burial was in Mizpah Cemetery.
She was born July 16, 1915 in Holmes County to James L. Moorhead and Myrtis Weeks Moorhead. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Durant.
In 1962 she was elected Justice of the Peace Beat II, an office she held for seventeen and a half years. During her years of service, she was a member of the Mississippi Sheriff's Peace Officers' Association. After her retirement from public service, she provided a day care for children in her home. During that period of time she cared for and touched the lives of many children and their parents in her community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. Bouchillon.
Survivors include: a son, Gary Bouchillon (Linda) of West; two daughters, Betty Gehring (Gary) of Pearl; and Donna Self (Doug) of Durant; brother, Fred Moorhead of Houston, Carter officiated at the services. Burial was in Itta Bena Cemetery under the direction of Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were John Doty Porter, Doty Porter, Mac McNeer, Tommy Dixon, Stewart Patridge and Bailey Patridge.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Edward Holmes, Jamie Stowers and Dr. Kenny Hines.
Pauline Downer
Died: Thursday, May 18, 2006
Age: 92
Pauline Elizabeth Powell Downer of Lexington, 92, died on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at Southern Funeral Home chapel in Lexington with Bro. Larry Edwards officiating. Burial was in Oregon Memorial Church.
Mrs. Downer was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Marshall Downer, and a son, Thomas Marshall (Ned) Downer, Jr.
Survivors include: a son, William Leverette (Buddy) Downer of West Point; two daughters, Shirley Downer Staples of Terry, and Betty Downer Earl of Olive Branch; 9 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: James Killebrew, Jack Crelan, Zack Killebrew, Tim Joiner, Clay Rodgers, and Larry Killebrew.
Edward Davis Collins
Died: Tuesday, May 16, 2006
Age: 64
Edward Davis Collins of Southaven, 64, died on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven. Graveside service was held on Thursday, May 18 at West City Cemetery in West with Rev. Ed McDaniel and Rev. Matt Brady officiating.
Mr. Collins was born in Yazoo City on March 12, 1942, the son of Walter Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Brenda Collins of Southaven; two daughters, Christy Wiseman and husband Brent, and Heather DeShouten and husband Dewayne; one brother, W. A. Collins; and one sister, Frances McLean.
Pallbearers were: Bubba Edwards, J. H. Edwards, Tommy Murphy, Roy Wiseman, Bob Poteete, Bill Edwards, Dale McBride, and Jim May.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Colonial Hills Baptist Church..
Virginia Land
Died: Sunday, May 14, 2006
Age: 78
Virginia Collins Land, 78, retired Registered Nurse, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2006 at the University Hospital in Lexington. Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, at First Baptist Church in Durant with burial in Mizpah Cemetery. Southern Funeral Home of Durant handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Land was born to the late Ivy Mitchell and Eunice Ellington McLellan in Holmes County on March 9, 1928. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Durant where she sang in the choir and directed the senior adult "Joy" group for many years. She was well known for her many talents such as her wonderful cooking, her gardening abilities and her art work.
Her greatest joy came from serving the Lord by being a servant here on earth.
After graduating from Durant High School she received her nursing degree from Gilfoy Nursing School in Jackson, MS. Mrs. Land was the administrator for the District II Community Hospital in Durant for 16 years. Her experiences as a Registered Nurse include working in hospitals, nursing homes and for StaHome Health.
Survivors include: her husband, Arthur (Pug) L. Land; sons, Arthur L. Land, Jr. and wife Anne of Jackson, Thomas Mitchell Land and wife Betty of Durant, Timothy Ben Land and wife Kathy of Union, and Sandy McLellan Land and wife Caroline of Itta Bena; brothers, Reedy E. McLellan of Durant and Charles Aubrey McLellan of High Point, TX; and two brothers, Charles of Du-rant and Jack of Tacoma, WA.
Active pallbearers were: John Davis, James Fisher, Willie Brown, Jr., Larry Austin, Nathan Horton and Antonie Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers were: Charles Austin, Demont Meeks, Willie Brown, Sr., Jack Horton, Kendrick Horton, and Ervin Honer.
Inez Talbert Hoff
Died: Wednesday, July 09, 2003
Age: 94
Inez Talbert Hoff, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, died at 10:40 a.m. on July 9, 2003, after an extended illness. She was 94 years old and a native of Liberty, MS. Religious services were held July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. James Sadler and Dr. David Womack with interment at Liberty Cemetery.
She attended high school in Liberty and college at MSCW. She was a homemaker and a retired bookkeeper in Lexington where she lived from 1939-1972. While living in Lexington, she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was active in W.M.U. She was a member of the Benjamin Humphrey’s Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution (DAR) in Lexington where she served as Regent from 1966-1972. In 1972, she returned to her beloved Amite County and spent many happy years in Liberty. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and active in Amite River Chapter of the DAR, in Liberty. Here she served as State Chairman of American Indian Affairs, 1971-1974, and Genealogical Records, 1974-1977; Amite River Chapter Chairmen for National Defense and for DAR Maga-zine, 1977-78. Her later years were spent in Baton Rouge, LA, where she resided until her death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Martha H. Adcock of Baton Rouge, LA and Joanna H. Hearn of Liberty; two sisters, Pearl Lively of Bedford, TX and Sue Honea of Tylertown; 4 grand-children; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Hoff, parents, Hoyte and Robert Talbert, and 1 brother, Robert Lee Talbert.
Active pallbearers were: Clay Fontenot, Ray Austin, Tom Hearn, Sam Tumey, Donald Chase and Murray Higgens.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Liberty Baptist Church, Joe Adcock, Harvey Hearn, and Randy McIlvoy.
To honor her love of books and her love of God, memorials may be made to Liberty Baptist Church library fund or to Sherwood Baptist Church library fund.
Mannie Davis
Died: Sunday, July 06, 2003
Age: 86
Mannie Davis, 86, of Lexington died from cardio respiratory arrest Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Veterans Nursing Home. Graveside services were held Friday, July 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. Rev. Harvey Olivie officiated. Great Southern Funeral Home of Green wood was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davis, a native of West, was a farm laborer. He served in the US Army.
Survivors include: daughter, Lue Bertha Bush of Kosciusko; son, Lemon Erving of Sallis; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were friends of the family.
