Hilda Dean
REFORM, Ala. - Hilda B. Taylor Dean, 80, died June 24, 2003, at her residence. Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Bozeman officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in Pickens County, Ala. Visitation is today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dowdle Funeral Home in Millport, Ala. Mrs. Dean was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Millport to the late Beely J. and Erma L. Bonner Taylor. She was a retired seamstress for Country Miss of Carrollton, Ala. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Reform. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shelby Jene and son, Edwin Dale. Survivors include her husband, William Alvie Dean of Reform; sons, Mike Dean, Donald Dean and Daniel Dean; brother, Buford Hayes Taylor; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Mark Dean, Gary Dean, Chuck Ziemer, Brian Dean, Jason Vice and Sean Dean.
Lonnie Deloach Sr.
REFORM, Ala. - Lonnie C. Deloach Sr., 60, died June 20, 2003, at Salem Nursing Home in Reform. Services are Friday at 2 p.m. at Prairie Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Poe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Crawford. The body will be at the church one hour prior to service. Visitation is today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter's Funeral Home in Columbus. Mr. Deloach was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Noxubee County to the late Ben Robert Deloach and Amy Lee Mason. He worked for Kerr McGee for a number of years as a machine operator until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie Louise and Joyce Ann Deloach; brother, Ben Deloach Sr. and sister, Pearlie Deloach. Survivors include his sons, Lonnie Deloach Jr. of Columbus, Larry Deloach of West Point, R.D. Deloach of Starkville and John Deloach of Columbus; daughter, Mary Deloach of Columbus; sister, Rosie Deloach of Columbus; brothers, Tommie Cribbs and R.D. Deloach, both of Mansfield, N.Y., Mary A. Beard, Edna E. Williams, Lula Edwards, Beulah Williams, Honey L. Harris and Jesse A. Williams, all of Columbus, and Idella Lowery of Tupelo; brothers, Willie E. Williams, Curtis Williams and Howard L. Williams, all of Columbus, and Frederick Williams of Tupelo. Pallbearers are his nephews and cousins.
Thurman Franklin
WEST POINT - Thurman O. Franklin, 76, died March 25, 2004, at State Veterans Nursing Home in Koscuisko. Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point with the Rev. James F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Old Cleveland Cemetery. Visitation is today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Franklin was born in Choctaw County to the late Etta Ann Humphries and Olen Franklin. He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He was a civil engineer for State Highway Department from 1955-1985. He was a former resident of West Point from 1966-1968 and a resident of Booneville from 1968 to 2003.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Phelps Franklin. Survivors include his stepson, Milton Hartley of West Point; step grandson, Clyne Hartley of West Point; sisters, Marguerite Fuller of Gautier, Marlene Trehern Pascagoula and Betty Joe Soloman of Houston, Texas, Willie Ervin Jr. of Biloxi and Bartholomew Ervin of Opelika, Ala. and Ted Williams; sisters, Easter Johnson, Charlene Stork, Gracie Ann N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Pallbearers are George Irby, Bennie Aaron, Simon Hairston, Willie Byrd, Robert Lampkin and Sam Conner.
Herston Minor
VERNON, Ala. - Alford Herston Minor, 81, died March 24, 2004, at a decedent's residence. Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in Vernon with Jeff Bayne officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Minor was born May 16, 1922, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late Jim and Doy Minor. He was a machinist for Hyster and a veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Verdie Rea Minor. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Carreras of Vernon; sister, Pauline Olgesby of Columbus; and three grandchildren.
James Glasgow
CALEDONIA - James H. Glasgow, 76, died March 23, 2004, at Montclair Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. Services were Thursday at 2 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home with Russell Brown and Chester Shaw officiating. Burial was in the Furnace Hill Cemetery. Mr. Glasgow was born March 12, 1928, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late William Jefferson and Edna Earl Glasgow. He was employed at United Technology as a supervisor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Glasgow; sister, Stella Shaw; brother, Platt Glasgow; Charles Glasgow and Billy Glasgow; and one grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Glasgow of Caledonia; son, Johnny Glasgow of Vernon; daughter, Sarah Benefield of Caledonia; brothers, Bert Glasgow and Bobby Glasgow, both of Vernon; sisters, Velma Moore of Saraland, Ala., Lavern Kickley of Pelzer, S.C., and Dean Vails and Polly Bardon, both of Millport, Ala.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
William Cowans
Williams Lloyd Cowans, 82, died March 22, 2004, at his residence. Services are Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Airy Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert McChristan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Visitation is Saturday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Carter's Funeral Services in Columbus. Mr. Cowans was born March 27, 1921, in Muscle Shoals, Ala., to the late John Cowans and Willie Mae Willingham. He was retired from General Tire and Green Thumb Waste Management. He was a member of Mt. Airy Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the deacon board. Survivors include his wife, Belauh Cowans of Columbus; son, William Cowans, John Cowans, Alvin Cowans and Derrick Cowans, all of Columbus; daughters, Lavern Blevins of Hinesville, Ga., Rosie Davis of Columbus, Laurinda Cowans and Kessler Cowans of Columbus; sister, Diane Moore of Detroit, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Thomas Aaron, Michael Rush, Emit Harris, Bennie Aaron Jr., Bryant Weatherspoon, Darrell Weatherspoon.
Horace Bennett
WEST POINT - Horace Benjamin Bennett, 96, died March 21, 2004, at Oktibbeha County Hospital. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ministerial Institute and College Auditorium in West Point with the Rev. Johnny Brooker officiating. Burial will be in the Tibbee Community Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation is today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. from 7:30 p.m. at Carter's Funeral Services in Columbus. Mr. Bennett was born Oct. 22, 1907, in Clay County to the late Ben Benjamin Bennett and Rosie Bennett. He was employed at U.S. Steel in Washington, D.C., Henry Moore of Columbus and Ronnie Moore of Incirlik, Turkey; sister, Ethel Toney, Maggie Toney, Ruby White and Lynn, all of Columbus; brothers, Willie Toney, James Toney, Earlie Toney, Mitchell Toney and Richard Sanders, all of Columbus; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers are friends of the family.
Jewell Anderson
SULLIGENT, Ala. - Jewell Banks Anderson, 89, died March 21, 2004, in Winfield, Ala. Graveside services were Thursday at Taylor Springs Cemetery in Sulligent. Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Anderson was born July 17, 1914, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late John and Myrtle Harrison Brown. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Shawnee, Okla. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Anderson, and brothers, Odis Brown, Guy Brown and Prentiss Brown.
Survivors include his sons, Dale C. Anderson of Winfield, Ala. and Russell J. Anderson of Jacksonville, N.C.; sisters, Exie Alexander of Belmont and Tollie Mathis of Miami, Okla.; brothers, Roger Brown of Vina, Ala. and Harrison Brown of Huntsville, Ala.; and two
grandchildren.

Mary Kay Brantley Warren, 79, died March 23, 2004, at her son residence in Pascagoula. Services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Egger Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation is today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

GORDO, Ala. - JoAnn Irene Beard, 67, died May 28, 2004, at her residence. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Sandifer presiding. Mrs. Beard was born Aug. 4, 1936, to the late Sam P. and Annie Laurie Texas, Donna G. Carson of Indiana; and brothers, Adam Chandler, James Chandler, and Kenneth Chandler.

Willie Hankins
CLANTON, Ala. - Willie Mae Finch Hankins, 96, died May 27, 2004, at Hatley Health Care. Services were Saturday at 3 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home of Vernon with James Cantrell officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Sulligent. Mrs. Hankins was born March 1, 1908, in Clanton to the late Claude J. and Mary F. Finch. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hankins was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Hankins; daughter, Wynetta H. Pocopanni; and two infants. Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn H. Mullins of Marietta, Ga. and Ann H. Jones of Clanton; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Hilda Mae Hopkins, 85, died May 27, 2004, at Windsor Place. Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Woodrick officiating. Burial is in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Century Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is Tuesday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Hopkins was born Dec. 12, 1918, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Barry in Columbus. She was a member of the Beautician Club and the Northside Missionary Society. She was a retired beautician. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include her husband, Jerry G. Hopkins; son, Bennie Hopkins of Columbus; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Frances Kilgore
HOUSTON - Frances Brandon Kilgore, 85, died May 28, 2004, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston. Services are today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Robertson officiating. Burial is in Houston Cemetery. Houston Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Kilgore was born July 5, 1918, in Clay County to the late Arthur Clarence and Viola Marshall Brandon. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Houston, where she was a member of the Joy Group and attended Bible Study at Houston Manor. She was owner and director of Houston Memorial Funeral Home for 43 years. She was retired. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kilgore was preceded in death by her husband, William M. "Shorty" Kilgore; son, Robert C. "PeeWee" Kilgore; great-grandchild, Miller Katherine Bynum; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Betty Miller of Aberdeen, Beth Brown of Calhoun City and Faye K. Dendy of Columbus; brothers, J.L. Brandon of Rome, Ga., Joe Brandon of Woodland, and Jimmy Brandon of Freeport, Texas; sister, Lois Maxwell of Madison; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Tommy Davis, Lynn Brown, Chris Brown, Marty Brown, Jonathan Kilgore and Jordan Kilgore. Donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Houston.
