Rex Lacy Sr.
SULLIGENT, Ala. - Rex Lacy Sr., 82, died May 28, 2004, at his residence. Services are Monday at 2 p.m. at Otts Funeral Home Chapel of Sulligent with the Bros. Jerry White, M.H. Hollis, and John Johnson officiating. A military graveside service and burial will follow at Wofford Cemetery. Visitation is today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Lacy was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Lamar County, Ala. to the late Mack and Etta Hill Lacy. He was a graduate of Sulligent High School. He was a member of Freewill Chapel Baptist Church and the American Legion. He was a truck driver and retired from Nacco of Sulligent. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lacy was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence Lacy, Clate Lacy, Marris Lacy, Collins Lacy, and Ross Lacy; sister, Lorene Bozeman; and granddaughter, Sherry McClendon. Survivors include his wife, Frances Lacy of Sulligent; son, Rex Lacy Jr. of Vernon; daughter, Linda Hollingsworth of Vernon; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Douglas Crosman, Anthony Crosman, Gary Stacks, Jake Lacy, James Hollis and Tommy Otts.
Steven McDonald
GUIN, Ala. - Steven Wayne McDonald, 50, died May 28, 2004, at his residence. Services are Monday at 11 a.m. at Faith Fellowship Church in Winfield with the Bros. Harry Sailor, Mark Dean, and Randy Wright officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is in Olive Hill Cemetery in Beaverton. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is today from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. McDonald was born Feb. 24, 1954, in Texas, and Robin McDonald of Laupahoehoe, Hawaii; and five grandchildren.
George Phelps
WEST POINT - George E. Phelps, 89, died May 28, 2004, at Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona. Services are today at 2 p.m. at Arbor Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Lynn Brock officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is in Arbor Grove Cemetery in Houston. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Phelps was born in Courtland, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers are his nephews.
Darwin Reeves
Darwin "Chuck" Reeves, 54, died May 28, 2004, at his residence. Graveside services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at McCondy Cemetery with Bro. Eddie Lawson officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Reeves was born in Granite City, Ill. to Betty Lou Alice Cruse and the late Joseph Charles Reeves. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a car salesman with Hardy's Winning Dealership of Dallas, Ga. In addition to his father, Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his sister, Monica Kirman. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Carla L. Reeves of Columbus; daughter, Shawna Zamudio of San Diego, Calif. and Tara Schwartz of Calabasas, Preston Reeves of Granada Hills, Calif., and Larry Reeves of Lancaster, Calif.; sisters, Veda Hildenbrand of Gallatin, Mo. and Ada Hendrix of New Albany; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Scott Riley, Luke Riley, Ben Riley, Eric White, Malt Stark, Tommy Harmon, Bo Ford and Tommy Gann. Vela Thompson
VERNON, Ala. - Vela F. Thompson, 92, died May 29, 2004, at Fayette Medical Center in Vernon. Services are Monday at 2 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home of Vernon with Jeff Bayne officiating. Burial is in Wofford Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Alabama. Survivors include her son, John Carter Funeral Home of Columbus.
Bertha Oden
REFORM, Ala. - Bertha "Dot" Oden, 73, died May 29, 2004, at Druid City Hospital Regional Medical Center. Complete arrangements will be announced by Skelton Funeral Home of Reform.
R.L. Stevenson
CRAWFORD - R.L. Stevenson, 79, died Sept. 6, 2004, at his residence. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Joe L. Stevenson officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at West Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Stevenson was born Dec. 25, 1924, to the late Joe M. and Lydia Stevenson in Oktibbeha County. He served as a deacon, chairman of the deacon board, assistant superintendent, Bible class teacher, Sunday school and church clerk at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church and he served as Constable of Oktibbeha County. He is survived by his wife, Rena Mae Stevenson; sons, Robert Stevenson of St. Louis, Andre Stevenson of Atlanta, Joe L. Stevenson of Canton, Mich., Leonard Stevenson of Crawford and Jonas Stevenson of Houston; daughters, Doris Baldwin of Denver, Debra Miller of Hoover, Ala., Pochantas Logan of Jackson and Brenda Matthew of Huntsville, Ala.; brother, Joe A. Stevenson of St. Louis; sister, Theretha Coleman of St. Louis, Ill; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
