Josephine Parham Shelton
SMITHVILLE - Josephine Parham Shelton, 82, died Sept. 7, 2004, at Beverly Health Care in Amory. Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Smithville Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim McDonald officiating. Graveside services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home and until service time on Friday. M rs. Shelton was born July 20, 1922, to the late Ira Jackson and Patra Brasfield Parham in Smithville. She was a member of Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and a retired seamstress. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Gail Shelton of Smithville. Jimmie Ritter, Nathan Floyd, Roy Parham, Buddy Sullivan, Terry Collums and James Taylor will serve as pallbearers.
Cindy Carter
SULLIGENT, Ala. - Cindy Carter, 38, died Sept. 7, 2004, at her residence. Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Sulligent First Baptist Church with John Nicholson officiating. Burial will be at the Gilmer Addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Texas. She worked as a nurse in Vernon, Ala., and Winfield, Ala., and she was a member of the Sulligent First Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Bud and Lucille Rhudy, Walter White and Jessie White Apollos. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Allen Carter of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Brittany Texas; and grandparents, Dick and Polly Walters, both of Vernon.

AMORY - Archie Stanford, 74, died Sept. 6, 2004, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Father Tim Murphy officiating and Florita Rodman assisting. Burial will be a the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue Friday until 1 p.m. Mr. Stanford was born Oct. 19, 1929, to the late William Archie Stanford Sr. and Jewel Nix Stanford in Amory. He was a retired U.S. Air Force World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. He was the owner and operator of Stanford Service Co. and a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Christine Burke Stanford of Amory; son, Richard Stanford of Amory; brothers, Victor H. 'Sonny' and Bobby Eugene Stanford, both of Amory and Charles Wayne Stanford of Fla.; sisters, Diane Sindle of Biloxi, Nancy S. Stockton of Amory and Martha E. Stegall of Smithville; one grandchild; and two step-grandchildren. Mark C. Brown, Randy Stanford, C.W. Smith, Scotty Carter, Gary Herberger and Kevin Barrett will serve as pallbearers. AMORY - Ora Cruber, 84, died Sept. 7, 2004, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. Services were today at 11 a.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Tommy Whaley officiating and Lee Thompson Stevens in Marion County, Ala. She was the owner/operator of Cruber's Dress Shop in Smithville, night clerk at Shelaine Courts and a member of the First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. Roy Thomas, Brent Coleman, B.J. Stevens, Robert Summerford, Eulon Summerford, Doyle Summerford, Phil Roberts, Dan Hester, N.Y., daughters, Johnnie Mai Rowland of Buffalo and Annie Dancer of Starkville; brothers, William Bell and Arsell Bell, both of Buffalo; sister, Mary Vanderbelt of Buffalo; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Matthew Seals, Robert Kemp, James Wright, Ervin Weaver and Lee Roy Bell will serve as pallbearers.

MILLPORT, Ala. - Lavern Casson, 75, died Sept. 7, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Dowdle Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Dykes officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Lamar County, Ala. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Casson was born Sept. 1, 1929, to the late Nathan and Gertrude Barnes Eggerton in Lamar County. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Benji Parker; and two brothers. She survived by her husband, Don Casson of Millport; sons, Bobby Parker of Columbus and Ray Colo.; sister, Faith Smith of Sulligent; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Darin Haynes, Don Duvuque, Charlie Weathers, Jason Gann, Rusty Walker and Justin Bowen will serve as pallbearers.

Charles Holt, 60, died Sept. 3, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pattman Funeral Home Chapel with Marion Bonner officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Holt was born July 24, 1944, to the late Robert and Emma Holt in Lowndes County. He is survived by his sons, Charles Holt Jr. of Columbus, Charles Presswood of Birmingham, Ala., and Corey Peterson of Bessemer, Ala.; daughters, Felicia Holt of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Tylisha Carpenter, Tamikia Foster , and Christine Bowen, all of Birmingham, and Kathy Parker of Atlanta; brother, Robert Holt of Columbus; sisters Lucy May Harris, Dorothy Erby, Christine Hood, Lowreen Taylor, Mary Holt, Lillian Holt and Catherine Singleton, all of Columbus, Lillie Mae Weaver of Durrant and Gloria Butler of Birmingham. She is survived by her husband, West Malone; sons, O.C. Malone and Doris Bridges, all of Crawford; and sisters, Stevell Samuels of Memphis and Connie Clairborne of Richmond, Va.
