Mary Day
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Mary Day, 81, of Columbia, who died Thursday, Jan. 4 at The Grove Healthcare Facility.
Interment was in the Spring Cottage Cemetery. Rev. Ron Burch officiated at the service.
Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 5 from 5-9 p.m.
A native of Marion County, she was a nurses aid and a member of Spring Cottage Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three daughters, Ginny Luther and Pat Dale of Columbia, and Faye Lancaster of Hattiesburg; one son, Scooter Day of Columbia; two sisters, Ida Belle Gandy of Columbia and Irene Bell of Mobile, Ala.; one brother, William “Dub” Ham of Columbia; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Edward Freeman
Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Caney Cemetery for Edward Freeman, 82, of Columbia who died Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Marion General Hospital. The Rev. Roger Miller officated at the service.
Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 19 until 10 a.m.
A native of Columbia, he was a retired truck driver.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Hester Terrel and William Freeman.
Survivors include: one daughter, Donna Bolin of Columbia; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers were friends of the family.
Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Jessie Lavell Whitehead
Jessie Lavell Whitehead, 74, died Jan. 5 of cancer. Services were held Jan. 7 at Community Funeral Home. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Whitehead was a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Maybelle Whitehead.
Survivors include: his wife, Sally Jo Whitehead of Columbia; three daughters, Glenda Faye Mistia of Delhi, La., and Patsy Florida; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several sisters and a brother.
Mr. Whitehead was a Reserve Deputy at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Pallbearers were mostly family members.
Dustin Lott
Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 at First Baptist Church of Sanford for Dustin Lott, 16, of Seminary, who died unexpectedly Jan. 28 at his home.
The Rev. George McNeese officiated. Interment was in the Bullock Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Seminary, Dustin was a student and a member of First Baptist Church of Sanford.
He was preceded in death by: his grandfather, Lloyd Sorrell; and grandmother, Sara Lott.
Survivors include: his parents, W.L. and Laura Lott of Seminary; grandparents, Walter Lott, Jr., of Seminary and Charlotte Sorrell Kelly of Sandy Hook.
Visitation was held from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
Houston Baughman
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Community Funeral Home Chapel for Houston Baughman, 66, of Columbia who died Jan. 25 at Marion General Hospital. Interment was in the Victory Cemetery. The Rev. George Hartzog officiated.
Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 26 from 5-10 p.m.
A native of Marion County, he was a logger/wood hauler, and a member of Victory Church.
Survivors include: Shirly Taylor Baughman; two daughters, Karen Hollie of Varnado, La., and Peggy Woodard of Foxworth; four sons, Houston Baughman, Jr. of Varnado, La., James Baughman, Wayne Morgan, and Ed Morgan, all of Columbia; two sisters, Mildred Blackwell of Foxworth and Ivory McCain of Angie, La.; one brother, Belson Baughman of Columbia; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchidlren.

John Edward Polk
Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Frisco Cemetery for John Edward Polk, 74, of Richton, who died Monday, Jan. 22 at Forrest General Hospital.
Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 25 from 5-9 p.m.
A native of Columbia, he worked in the oil field and had served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by Sid Polk and Rosa Case Polk.
Survivors include: his wife, Audry Medows Polk.

Quenton Dyess
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Ebenezer Baptist Church for Quenton Dyess, 81, of Bassfield, who died Wednesday, Jan. 10 at his residence. Interment was in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemtery. The Rev. Milton Scott officiated at the service.
Visitaion was held Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 5-9 p.m.
A native of Bassfield, he was a construction worker, a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and has served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Buford W. Dyess and Bessie Ward Dyess.
Survivors include: his wife, Annie Dyess of Bassfield; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Key of Lake Providence, La.; one brother, Buford W. Dyess, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Alma Langston
Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery for Alma Langston, 87, of Columbia who died Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Marion General Hospital. Brother Dough Barber officiated at the service.
Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 25 from 2:30 - 8 p.m.
A native of Columbia, she was a housewife and a member of East Columbia Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Curtis Langston.
Survivors include: two daughters, Nita Faye Langston and Maggie Gail Langston, both of Columbia; one son, Aubrey Langston of Columbia; one son-in-law, Lavon Grimsley; four sisters, Alice Davis, Lillian Speights, Mattie Thornhill and Mandy Smith, all of Columbia; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Frances McManus
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel for Frances McManus, 69, of Kokomo who died Thursday, Jan. 25 at Forrest General Hospital.
Interment was in the Kokomo Cemtery. The Rev. Glenn Nace officiated at the service.
Visitation was held Saturday, Jan. 27 from 4-9 p.m.
Mrs. McManus was a homemaker and a member of Kokomo Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She had lived in St. Bernard, La., for about 43 years.
Survivors include: her husband, Royce McManus of Kokomo; one daughter, Carma Nunez of Kokomo; two sons, Roy N. McManus and John D. McManus, both of St. Bernard, La.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Sherry R. Wade
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Pineburr Holiness Church for Sherry R. Wade, 28, of Seminary, who died Jan. 28 at her residence. Interment was in the Pineburr Cemetery. She was a housewife and a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle of Hattiesburg.
Survivors include: her husband, Darwin Wade of Seminary; her mother, Laurel Nell Sistrunk Hooten of Columbia; two sons, Brent Auston Wade and Blake Auston Wade of Seminary; two daughter, Haley Brooke Wade and Kasie Chanel Wade of Seminary; three brothers, James Keith Hooten of Waveland, William Scott Hooten and Jeremy Paul Hooten of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Pineburr Holiness Church.
