Donna D. R. Simmerman
Donna D. Ricketts Simmerman of Clinton, 94, of Palm Bay, Fla., formally of Winchester, Va., died July 8 at Central Wyoming, Ill. Mark Seepe Funeral Home & Crematorium of Jackson handled arrangements.
Mrs. Simmerman, daughter of Harry and Ruby Sargent Ricketts, was born June 11, 1910 in Kingston, Ill., and was a life long member of the Methodist Church.
Mrs. Simmerman was a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star All-Star Chapter #1 O.E.S. of Oak Lawn, Ill., and a 20-year member of the Senior Citizen Bowling League in Winchester, Va.
Son, Harry G. Simmerman of Winchester, Va.; daughter, Laura L. Bach of Indialantic, Fla. ; and two sisters, Maxine Petty and Virginia Best, precede her in death.
Four grandchildren, Robin D. Pitcock and husband of Winchester, Va., Charles L. Bach and wife of Palm Bay, Fla., Barry A. Simmerman and wife of Richmond, Va., and Donald P. Bach (senior civil engineer for the city of Jackson) of Clinton, and eight great-grandchildren survive her.
Agnes 'Polly' King Walker
Agnes "Polly" King Walker of Jackson, 81, died July 12 at River Oaks Hospital.
Graveside services and burial were July 14 in Lakewood South Cemetery. Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Jackson handled arrangements.
A native of Mt. Olive, she had lived in Jackson for the past 49 years. Mrs. Walker was a retired McRae's department store associate, where she was voted associate of the year on numerous occasions.
She was blessed with 60 wonderful years of marriage to Edward R. Walker, who passed away in October 2001.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her son, Darrell Edward Walker of Ridgeland; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Ann Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Services were July 16 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church with burial in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Prentiss. Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home of Jackson handled arrangements.
A native of Conn., he had lived in the Jackson area for over 50 years. Mr. Anthony was a veteran of World War II having served in the United State Navy.
He was a longtime member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for 49 years and a Sunday school teacher for 51 years. Mr. Anthony was instrumental in the foundation of the Woodland Hills Baptist Academy.
He was a retired regional sales director, having worked for Amerock Hardware Corp. for over 27 years.
Mr. Anthony is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pollye George Anthony of Deerfield; sons, the Rev. Tommy Anthony (pastor of Raymond Road Baptist Church) and wife Anna of Raymond, Rusty Anthony of Deerfield; daughter, Vicki Prather and husband Tom of Clinton; sister-in-love, Evelyn George of Deerfield; beloved grandchildren, Emily, Jayna, Scott, Molly, Minda, Coday, Wes, Kate and Chris.

April Tannehill
April Tannehill of Terry, 40, died July 14 at University of Mississippi Employment Service and Rosalie.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Women's Society Christian Service, Monday Morning Prayer Group, Order of Eastern Star No. 75, Pilgrimage Garden Club, National Historical Society and the Musical Arts League.
Mrs. George was first and foremost a devoted Christian, mother and grandmother and also a beloved sister, aunt and friend. She thrived on her relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed flower gardening, history, music and most of all family time.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine Robertson and Eloise McGlothlin; a brother, Winston Robbins and a grandson, Austin Little.
She is survived by: sons, Vernon F. George and wife Beth of Anaheim Hills, Mississippi State University and a member of First United Methodist Church in New Albany.
He was president of the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Graveside services were in Lakewood Cemetery. Breeland Funeral Home of Canton handled arrangements.
Americus ‘Mack’ Gill Jr.
A.M. “Mack” Gill Jr. of Clinton, 89, died peacefully July 19 at Central Mississippi Delta village of Swiftown in 1916 and later to Sidon. He attended public schools in Sidon and Green wood, and college at Sunflower Junior College and Mississippi Highway Department and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Gill, a Korean War-era veteran, served in the Army with the rank of sergeant. He retired as a hydraulics engineer from the Corps of Engineers in 1970 after 37 years of service at the Waterways Experiment Station in both Clinton and Vicksburg.
In retirement, Mr. Gill operated a 180-acre cattle farm in Hinds County. He had been an active bee keeper and fruit orchard grower. He was a charter member of Mt. Salus Presbyterian Church and served actively as a deacon. Mr. Gill lived an active and productive life until the Friday before his death. In commenting on his life he stated, “I have been blessed. If it could go good or bad for me, it went good!”
Mr. Gill was instrumental in the formation of youth sports programs in Clinton during the 1950s and into the 1960s. He was quietly proud of the role he played in the development of Little League and Pony League Baseball and Gray-Y football.
He had volunteered both his farm equipment and his time and labor in the development and construction of the first stand-alone Little League baseball park in Clinton. He was a founding member of the Clinton High School Athletic Booster Club.
Mr. Gill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lou McMath Gill, formerly of Sidon. He is survived by four children, Myrtis Ewing and husband George of Clinton; Americus Mack Gill and wife Dianne of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Newton Gill of Marietta, Ga.; and John Gill and wife Vicky of Clinton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Paul O. Eastridge
Paul O. Eastridge of Charleston, 64, circuit clerk for Tallahatchie County in Charleston, died July 21at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Services were July 23 at Bethel Methodist Church in Enid with burial in the Bethel Cemetery in Enid. Newsom Funeral Home in Charleston handled arrangements.
Mr. Eastridge was the Tallahatchie County circuit clerk for 28 years.
He was also past president of the Michigan City; two grandchildren, Mary Clark Joyner of Brandon and Brian Paul Joyner of Brandon.
Wayman C. Smith
Wayman C. Smith of Clinton, 85, died July 21at the Ohio, in 1919 to the late Leartis Smith and Fannie Saunders Smith. He was a retired World War II master sergeant with the National Guard, serving our country in the South Pacific. He was employed by McRae’s for a few years as director of receiving inventory, and also by Beech Aerospace.
Mr. Smith and his wife were longtime Jackson residents and moved to the Clinton area eight years ago. He was a member of Alta Stone and husband Justin.
Donations may be made to Alta Mississippi State Veterans Home in Jackson of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Dec. 21, 2003, at Camp Le Juene, Richlands, N.C.
Services were at Lakewood Funeral Home with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Wes was an E-3 lance corporal in the Marine Corps. In 2002, he was deployed to the Middle East for six months on the USS Trenton with the 22nd MEU.
He made a profession of faith in his early teens. As a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church, he was involved in Evangelism Explosion and an active choir member. He enjoyed playing soccer and was an All-Star player for the Clinton Soccer Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and three children.
He is survived by his wife, Stacy Malone Bodkins; children, Joshua Shawn Bodkins, 4; Brianna Sydney Bodkins, 3; and Brendan Alexander Bodkins, 2 months; parents, Renee and Robert Neal Bodkins, all of Clinton; maternal grandparents, J.W. and Frances McLain of Shreveport, La., Earline McLain of Clinton; paternal grandparents, Larry Neal and Margaret Bodkins of Humboldt, Tenn., and formerly of Clinton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
