Maxine Veal
Maxine Veal of Clinton, 87, died of heart failure July 20 at Care Center of Clinton.
Services were at New Bethel A.M.E. Church with burial in Garden Memorial Park. Peoples Funeral Home of Jackson handled arrangements.
Mrs. Veal, daughter of the late John Jones and Maggie Jones Bell, was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Jackson. She attended the Jackson Public School System. She accepted Christ many years ago and united with the New Bethel A.M.E. church, where she was a faithful and loyal member.
Her husband, Charlie Veal, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted and loving daughter, Dorothy J. Phillips; a caring godson, Gary (Odester) Jones; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Steven Charles Stahler
Steve Stahler of Clinton, 52, died July 31at his residence in Clinton.
Graveside services were Aug. 4 in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Stahler was born in 1952 in Oslo, Norway. His parents were the late Charles Lee Stahler and Blanche Cheney Stahler. He graduated from Clinton High School and Mississippi College, where she received her registered nursing degree.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Jackson, where she was a member of the sanctuary choir.
After working for 17 years in the Iowa; maternal grandmother, Willie E. Matthews of Florence; two nieces, two nephews and three great-nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church, Jackson, or a favorite charity.
Robert Judson Wills
Robert Judson Wills of Clinton, 73, died Aug. 6 in Mobile, Ala., of complications following an automobile accident.
Services were Aug. 9 in the new sanctuary of First Baptist Church Clinton, with burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mr. Wills was born in Newton and moved to Clinton in 1954. He was a graduate of Newton High School, attended Clarke College and graduated from Mississippi, serving in numerous offices, and receiving its distinguished service award in 1996.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton for more than 50 years where he actively served as a deacon, chairman of the deacons, Sunday school teacher and on various other committees. He served as chairman of the building committee during the construction of the church's new sanctuary. Along with his civic activities, he was devoted to his church and his family.
Mr. Wills was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. J.E. (Sophia) Wills, brothers John William, James Edward and Joseph Wills, and his son, David Thomas Wills.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Thomas Wills, Clinton: son, Robert Judson Wills Jr. and Barbara S. Wills; Birmingham, Ala.: daughter-in-law Kathy Wills, Clinton: grandsons Stephen Michael Wills and Andrew Judson Wills and his twin sister, Mary (James Harvey) Smith, Sardis, four nephews and three nieces.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Clinton Building Committee.
Nellie Hoover Byrd
Nellie Hoover Byrd of Clinton, 78, a homemaker, died Aug. 16 at Clinton Health & Rehab Center.
Graveside services were Aug. 19 in McDonald Cemetery in Carthage. Breeland Funeral Home of Canton handled arrangements.
Lanoel A. Messemore
Lanoel A. Messemore of Mendenhall, 82, a retired factory worker, died Aug. 20 at Brandon Nursing and Rehab in Brandon.
Funeral service were at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee with burial in Jupiter Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall.
Mr. Messemore was born July 20, 1922, in Jones County, the son of the late Arthur and Lura Beach Messemore. He was a Christian and a veteran of the Army. Mr. Messemore liked hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Grady Messemore and Howard Messemore.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and J.C. Palmer of Pearl; brother, Billy Joe Messemore of Clinton; sister, Margie Horn of Clinton; grandchildren, J.C. Palmer Jr., Sissy Matheny and Becky Crimm; and four great-grandchildren.
Letesha D. Kelly
Letesha D. Kelly of Jackson, 23, a cashier for Conoco, died Aug. 13 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.
Services were Aug. 21 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clinton with burial in the church cemetery.
Peoples Funeral Home in Jackson handled arrangements.
Sandra Scott Ponder
Sandra Scott Ponder of Pearl, 63, died Aug. 16 at home in Pearl.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Ponder was a native of Mississippi College, where she received numerous scholarship awards. She was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta national honorary scholastic fraternity for freshmen students. Beth was majoring in biological medical sciences and was an active member and officer with the Laguna social tribe. She was also a member of the MC Singers and worked in the admissions office. Beth was involved in several campus organizations and was a member of the Westhaven Church of God in Jackson.
Beth served as Clinton's Junior Miss in 2003, an honor recognizing her academic achievements, poise, beauty, fitness and vocal talent. She went on to be chosen as Mississippi Medical Center, Beth Finch Memorial, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, Miss. 39216.
Lindsay Carole Miller
Lindsay Carole Miller of Pascagoula, 19, died Sept. 11 in Pascagoula.
Services were Sept. 14 at First Baptist Church of Pascagoula with Dr. Rex Yancey, the Rev. Dennis Ray Smith and the Rev. David Tadlock officiating. Entombment was in Jackson County Memorial Park under direction of Holder-Wells Funeral Home.
She was born Dec.19, 1984, in Macon, Ga. Lindsay was a second-year student at Woods Baptist Church in Jackson with internment in his homeland of Uzbekistan.
A native of Uzbekistan, Mr. Sisoev was an exchange student, having graduated from Forest Hill High School and later enrolled at Mississippi College Civitan Service Club. He was a member of Alta Mississippi College, P.O. Box 4032, Clinton, Miss. 39058.
