Margie Morris Lamkin

Margie Morris Lamkin died Feb. 27, a week after celebrating her 102nd birthday with family and friends at Martha Coker Convalescent Home in Yazoo City.
Funeral services were held March 2 at First Baptist Church, Yazoo City, with the Rev. Bill Stanford and the Rev. James Yates officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
Blessed with a positive Christian attitude and giving spirit, Margie will be remembered for her love of the Bible, music, art, literature and nature.
She previously served as Sunday school teacher and organist at First Presbyterian Church and choir director at First Baptist Church, where she was a member at the time of her death.
Her accomplished piano and organ students are continuing her musical legacy at home and other areas. She was active in the Mississippi.
Her late husbands, Lloyd Morris and James C. Lamkin, preceded her in death.
Survivors are her daughter, Jean Morris Lamkin and son-in-law and stepson, James C. Lamkin Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio; stepdaughter, Jo Leutgens of Wilmington, N.C.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Deryl Nazor, Stan Stanford, Steve Stanford, John Stanford and Scott Stanford, and great-grandson, Corbin Stanford.

Johnny Vandercook, a former employee of Margie's beloved father-in-law, Arthur Morris, founded this ministry, which meets the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of thousands of seafarers and maritime workers on ships from all over the world.
Perry Clifton Perkins Sr.

Dr. Perry Clifton Perkins Sr., 88, died March 1 at Highland Home in Ridgeland after a brief illness.
Funeral services were March 4 in the new sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Clinton. Burial was March 5 in the Friendship Cemetery in Columbus. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton handled arrangements.
Dr. Perkins was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Columbus, to Joseph Clarence and Gordia Smith Perkins. He graduated from S. D. Lee High School and was ordained to the gospel ministry by First Baptist Church of Columbus.
After graduating from high school, he worked in a grocery store and served as pastor to two churches in Lowndes County. He was one of the first students to commute to Mississippi State, he entered Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Upon the outbreak of World War II, he volunteered as a chaplain in the U.S. Army. He was a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific theatre of operations and upon discharge had obtained the rank of major.
He returned to Southern Seminary where he met and married Sara Hall of Lavonia, Ga. After graduation from seminary, they returned to Mississippi College.
In 1975, he was called to the Mississippi Baptist pastors and a friend to Mississippi as interim pastor. In the last 15 years of his ministry, his work was mostly with churches in Yazoo County. At the age of 82, he was called as pastor of Central Baptist Church of Little Yazoo, where he enjoyed serving for four years, resigning in October 2003.
Dr. Perkins is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sara; daughter Beth Cox and husband Adair of Rome, Ga.; son, Perry C. Perkins Jr. and wife Patricia of New Orleans; five grandchildren, Ginibeth Mississippi Baptist Medical Center March 2.
Funeral services were March 5 at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson.
Dr. Hamilton was born June 15, 1937. His parents, Russell and Hazel Hamilton, preceded him in death. After graduation from high school, Dr. Hamilton attended Texas at Arlington where he received his master of arts in political science. He also received his doctor of philosophy degree in geography from North Carolina to Mississippi College for six years.
Dr. Hamilton is survived by his wife of 28 years, Judy Hamilton. He is also survived by his brother, Gary and wife Martha, from Columbus, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. These individuals provided medical support and exceptional moral support during his courageous years of treatment.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the American Cancer Society, National Wildlife Association or a local humane society.
Frances 'Nell' Williams

Frances L. Nell Williams, 72, died March 2 at Central Alabama; three sisters, Grace Kentucky, Pearl Allbritton of Mt. Olive and Sue Bankston of Brandon, and three grandchildren, Allen and Clay Williams and Ella Adair.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morrison Heights Baptist Church Future is Now Fund or to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Graveside services were March 7 at Lakewood Memorial Park. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton handled arrangements.
Mr. Miller was a member of Beulah Memorial Baptist Church. He was employed for several years at Gaddis Farms and Snake Creek Planting Co. in Bolton. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Sue; his two sons, Richard and wife Angie, and Michael and wife Rachelle; four grandchildren, Whitley, Hunter, Kaylee and Rheagan; his mother, Kathleen Miller; two brothers, Harold and wife Pam, all of Clinton and Wayne and wife Deborah of Satsuma, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

James 'Bill' Cocke Jr.

James William "Bill" Cocke Jr., died March 5 at Mississippi Society CPA, past president of American Institute, CPA, past member of Council, Estate Planning, Council of Mississippi State and Hinds County Bar Association; Texas; Lauren Perry of Green ville, S.C., Steven Perry and Kristi Perry of Clinton, and Austin Perry of Green ville, S.C.; two great-grandchildren, Peyten Bevill and Kyra Bevill, both of Austin; one stepdaughter, Angelia Chandler of Jackson; six step-grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Andrew Chandler, Michael Chandler, Justin Naylor, Michelle Naylor and Beth Crisco; four step-great-grandchildren, Charlie Beth McDaniel, Drew Chandler, Heather Ferguson and Ashlee Ferguson; and his dogs, Jessie James (JJ) and Buddie Boy.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wynomah Brooks Perry, originally of Coffeeville. Charles and Wynomah made their home in the Alta Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Funeral services were at First Baptist Church in Clinton. Burial was in Clinton Cemetery.
Born in Picayune Oct. 12, 1920, to the late Laurence and Leta Smith Wells, she attended Pearl River Junior College, where she met her husband, Roy Burkett. After graduating from Pearl River Junior College, Mary attended Mississippi Public Service Commission, as well as the Hinds County Chancery Court before retiring.
Wherever Roy's coaching would take them, service to her church was always a priority and a joy.
A member of First Baptist Church, Clinton, since 1961, she taught the New Friends Sunday school class and was a member of the Joy Makers senior adult choir, where she was currently serving as its president.
She also maintained an enthusiastic interest in the life of her alma mater. Always a devoted Choctaw, Mary was an active member of the 50-Year Club at Mississippi College.
