Graveside services for Elizabeth N. Guthrie, 75, of Mailland, Georgia were held on Friday, August 4, 2000 in Columbus, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica.
Rev. Taylor died August 2 at Muscogee Manor Nursing Home. He was former owner of the Blue and White Cafe' and Clint's Restaurant. He entered the ministry in 1956.
Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, past president and past District Governor of Lions Club, past president of Rotary Club, and a Mason; worked with Cub Scouts; and was named to Who's Who in North Carolina, and Rebecca Rackley of Columbus; one son, Bill Carney of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund, 959 54th Street, Columbus, GA 31904.
Dana Langley Boyett
Died: Thursday, July 20, 2000
Dana Langley Boyett, 38, of Crenshaw, Miss., died July 20, 2000, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2000 at First Baptist Church in Tunica, with burial in Lulu Cemetery in Hornsville, Woods of Philadelphia, Miss.

J. D. Bynum
Services for J.D. Bynum, 69, of Tunica were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2000 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel here, with burial in Monett Cemetery in Monette, Ark.
Mr. Bynum died Feb. 8 at his home. He was retired from the Dundee Water Association.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Marlene Harlow of Nettelton, Miss; three sons, Dennis Bynum, Marty Bynum, and Darus Bynum, all of Nettelton; one sister, Virginia Brown of Grenada, Miss.; two brothers, Raymond Bynum of Batesville, Ark., and Wayne Bynum of Jonesboro, Ark., seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He leaves a special friend, Dorthie Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Kemp, Harry Manues, Richard Manues, Doug Kemp, and Wesley Lewis.
Claud R. Pugh
Claud R. Pugh, 89, of Horn Lake, Miss. died Feb. 28 at home. Mr. Pugh, a retired farmer, was a Mason and a member of the Pentecostal faith for 60 years.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at Heritage Christian Life Church in Southaven, Miss., with burial in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Rev. James Sandy officiated at the services, and Twin Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pugh is survived by nine daughters, Louise Makamson of Maben, Miss., Lavelle Talkington of Lula, Miss., Nellie Henley of Pittsburg, Texas Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #3936.
Mrs. Cook is survived by five daughters, New York; two sisters, Ann Dodds and Brenda Owen, both of Olive Branch, Miss.; two brothers, Ruben Cates of Southaven and Robert Cates of Collierville, Tenn.; nineteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Jude in Memphis.
Mrs. Jane Ellanor McClintock
Died: Sunday, April 1, 2001
Graveside services for Mrs. Jane Ellanor McClintock, 98, of Tunica were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. William Mills officiating.
Mrs. McClintock, a homemaker, died April 1 at her home. She was born in Tunica County on November 23, 1902; her family was among the county's pioneer settlers. She was a graduate of Martha California, and Harvey Ashe of Tunica; eleven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Clyde Rhea Ashe Scholarship, c/o Northwest Community College Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
Robert Benford Ashe

Robert Benford Ashe
Services for Robert Benford Ashe, 78, of Strayhorn were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Strayhorn Baptist Church, with burial in Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia.
Mr. Ashe, a retired farmer, died March 22 at his home. He was a member and deacon at Strayhorn Baptist Church for 40 years, a World War II Army veteran, and a 49-year Mason.
Mr. Ashe is survived by his wife Byrlie Ashe; one son, Sammy Ashe of Strayhorn; his mother Katie Ashe of Senatobia; a sister, Laura Laughlin of Calhoun City; two brothers, Harvey Ashe of Tunica and Howard Ashe of Bakersfield, Texas; and one brother, Donald "Bubba" Wilfong of Brocton, Mass.
Mrs. Ruby Carroll Engle
Died: Wednesday, February 28, 2001
Mrs. Ruby Carroll Engle, 71, of Tunica died February 28, 2001, at Baptist Desoto Medical Center in Southaven.
Mrs. Engle was born to the late Gus and Arveal Carroll in Tunica on June 15, 1929. She joined New Zion M.B. Church fifty years ago under the leadership of Rev. M.B. Chaney. She served as the president of the Usher Board, member of the Pastor Aide Club, Tunica County Usher Association and Benevolent fund. Most of all she was a faithful servant to God. Mrs. Engle was united in holy matrimony to the late Johnny Engle, Sr., and from this union eight children were born.
She is survived by five sons, Nathan Carroll of Chicago, Ill., and Calvin, Michael, Derrick and Johnny Engle, all of Tunica; three daughters, Ramona Ross of Chicago, Ill., Linda Engle Harris of Talbotton, Georgia, Betty Richard of Batesville, and Sharon Roberts of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Lola Blankenship of Chillicotta, Georgia; and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Charity Hospital of Marks, Miss. or a charity of the donor's choice.
William Lewis
Died: Tuesday, February 20, 2001
William Lewis
Services for William Lewis, 33, of Tunica were held at 1 p.m. on February 24, 2001 at Corinth M.B. Church in Tunica, with burial in Corinth Cemetery.
Lewis, a carpenter, died of an apparent homicide on February 20.
He is survived by his mother Terrie Bond of Tunica; his father William Conway of Tunica; one sister, Martina McNeal of Tunica; and one brother, Quae D. McNeal of McGregor, Alabama. Rev. Danny Smith, Rev. Doug Hardin, and John Wallace Wright officiated.
Cowart is survived by his wife Eloise Wright Cowart; two daughters, Lacy C. Miller of Senatobia, Miss. and Lesa Cowart of Pineville, Texas; one grandson; and four step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jack Turner, Buddy Emanuel, Bobby Early, and Eddie Haley. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Veazey, Jeff Pounders, Jesse Powell, Bobby Rowlinson, Clayton Henderson, Mike Boren, Harvey Ashe, Billy Spencer, Charles Bennett, Ellis Koonce III, Bobby Papasan, Jimmy Boyd, Derrick Crawford, Dwight Sorey, Larry Sowell Jr., Jerry Nickels, Cedric Burnett, G.W. Henderson Jr., Tim Hamp, Benard Nowell, and Jerry Gentry.
Cowart's parents purchased O'Keefe Funeral home in 1960, and the Cowart family operated the business and a flower shop for over 40 years. Bart Cowart's brother-in-law worked as the mortician and Cowart managed the funeral home for several years after the business was sold to Nowell in the mid-1990s. Cowart also provided ambulance service during the 1960s and 1970s after the business was purchased from O'Keefe, according to Jack Turner of Tunica.
"A lot of nice things have been said about him and I am pleased with the way people felt about him," said Eloise Wright Cowart, Monday.
