Silas M. Dobbs, Jr.
Silas M. Dobbs, Jr., 82, died May 25, 2004, at Aurora Australis Lodge in Columbus.
Services were held May 27, 2004 at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Walker officiating and Rev. Sadie Smith assisting. A graveside service followed at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman.
Mr. Dobbs was born May 24, 1922, in Ackerman of the late Silas M. Dobbs, Sr. and Nannie Bell Gammill Dobbs. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in England, France and Belgium and was present at the Rhine Crossing. For his service he received the Bronze Star. Mr. Dobbs worked for the Mississippi State University for thirty-six years. She was a member of First Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Gladdis of Starkville, MS; daughter, Merry Wayne Gladdis of Knoxville, TN; son, David Gladdis of Knoxville, TN; sister, Laura Sue Harrington of Louisville, MS; grandchildren, Sarah and James Gladdis of Knoxville, TN; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the "American Heart Association" and the "Arnie Armstrong Offering."
Mr. Cliston Triplett

Funeral services for Mr. Cliston Triplett, 63, were held at 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Mt. Pleasant Number Two Mountain Baptist Church in Noxapater, MS. Rev. Pastor Curtis Johnson officiated.
A native of Winston County, Mr. Triplett worked as a stocker at Gentry's Big Star, in Ingalls Ship Yard in Pascagoula, MS for many years, and at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Mr. Triplett always loved to work in his garden. He first joined the St. James Presbyterian Church USA in Louisville, MS. Mr. Triplett died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at his home in Noxapater, MS.
Survivors include four sons, Clifford Jr. Triplett and James (Cherri) Wess Triplett, both of Louisville, Lester Triplett and James Arnett, both of Noxapater; four daughters, Elizabeth (Willie) Culberson and Martha (Johnny) Lewis of Noxapater, MS, Carol (Cardenus) Dotson and Brenda (Melvin) Triplett, both of Louisville; five sisters, Lillie Pearl Bates, Mae Bell Bates, Betty McMillian, and Mary Dean Gandy, all of Louisville, and Idell Young of Fremont, CA; four brothers, Benjamin Triplett and Jerome Triplett, both of Louisville, Rolland Triplett of Davenport, IA, and Iree Triplett of Memphis, TN; twenty-five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Silas L. Dempsey

Funeral services for Mr. Silas L. Dempsey, 69, were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, MS. Rev. Eddie Agnew officiated. Burial followed at the Welcome Chapel Cemetery.
A native of Winston County, Mr. Dempsey was a truck driver and a mason. He was a member of Welcome Chapel Church. Mr. Dempsey died on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Winston Medical Center in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Bane Dempsey of Louisville; his son, Michael Dempsey of Glasgow, KY; three daughters, Beverly Britt of Atlanta, GA, Kay Kirkpatrick of Louisville, and Susan Darby of Noxapater; his sister, Gladys Eubanks of Louisville; three brothers, Walter Dempsey, Kenneth Dempsey, and Connie Dempsey, all of Louisville; and seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Welcome Chapel Church.
Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Flora Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Smith were held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Oak Grove Mountain Baptist Church Number Two. Rev. L. L. Logan officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
A native of Winston County, Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Grove Mountain Baptist Church Number Two. Mrs. Smith died on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Care Center of Louisville.
Survivors include her two sons, David McArthur Smith of Gordon, GA and Clarence Harris of Henderson, TN; four daughters, Maxine Taylor of Louisville, MS, Lorene Arnold and Vera Shields, both of Henderson, TN, and Catharine Cameron of Detroit, MI; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

W. D. Arterberry
Mr. W. D. Arterberry, age 65, of Choctaw County, died July 16, 2004 at Choctaw County Medical Center of heart attack. Mr. Arterberry was a retired pipe liner and a member of Mill Spring M. B. Church of Weir.
Services were held Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Millspring M. B. Church with Rev. Fred Lewis officiating and interment in Church Cemetery.
Survivors include: daughters, Martha Arterberry , Gloria Arterberry and Bernice Herron all of Jackson; son, John Arterberry Sr. of Jackson; sisters, Annie Mae Davis of Denver, CL, Katie Mae Evans of Weir, Josephine Fonder of Kosciusko, Dossie Hatches of Jackson; brothers Charlie Fair of Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora. Mrs. Gatlin was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Services were held Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora and burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Survivors include: Husband Hugh Gatlin of Eupora; two daughters, Marie Betts of Van Vleet, MS, Debby Tuck of Mathiston, MS; one son Dewayne Gatlin of Kosciusko, MS; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Gatlin and David Gatlin.

Mrs. Minnie Lee (Gill) Triplett
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Lee (Gill) Triplett, 82, were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Still Valley M. B. Church. Rev. William Haynes officiated. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
A native of Winston County, Mrs. Triplett was a homemaker. She was a member of Still Valley M. B. Church, and a member of Usher. Mrs. Triplett died on Friday, July 16, 2004, in the Winston County Medical Center.
Survivors include her four daughters, Willie Sue Triplett, Nellie Jean Miller, Jearlean McCant, and Dorothy Triplett; two sons, Vernon L. Triplett and Lemar Triplett, both of Louisville, MS; her sister, Roberta Williams; her brother, Percy Gill; her twenty grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Christine Hill Carr
Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Hill Carr, 75, were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2004, at Forest Hill Midtown Funeral Home in Memphis TN. Burial followed at Forest Hill Cemetery.
A resident of Southaven, MS, Mrs. Carr was an employee at Stewart Brother's Hardware. She was a member of Long Street United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Mrs. Carr died on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at her home in Southaven, MS.
Survivors include her two daughters, Zane Pure of Nesbit, MS, and Katrina Sinquefield of Southaven, MS; her sister, Margaret Linch of Beaumont, TX; and Hiram Martin of Horn Lake, MS
