Columbus, MS - Annie Jane Mitchell, 74, formerly of Ethel, MS and a teacher of 40 years at Columbus, MS, died September 25, 2002, at Humphreys County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held September 27, 2002, at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Stonewall Cemetery in Ethel, MS. Jordan Funeral Home handled ar-rangements.
Annie Mae Mitchell was the founding and lifetime member of Laureate Gamma Chapter of beta Sigma Phi Business Sorority. She taught 40 years at Columbus, MS.
Survivors include, two sisters, Bettie M. Templeton and Sudie M. Bell, both of Belzoni; one brother, Allison Mitchell of Swartz Creek, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LES OVERBY
Biloxi, MS - Les Overby, 80, died September 23, 2002, in Gulfport, MS.
Funeral services were held September 26, 2002, at Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Homes of Biloxi, MS with burial in the Biloxi National Cemetery. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Homes, Inc. handled arrangements.
Mrs. Overby was born in Monroe County, MS and was a resident of the coast for 35 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Biloxi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Oklahoma City, OK; eight sisters, Earlene Birt of Oak Ridge, TN, Ruby Williams of Belzoni, Lillie B. Patton, Carrie Allen and Lela Mae Williams, all of Biloxi, MS, Charlie Mae Cassidy, Sadie Lee Williams and Betty Bea Williams, all of CA; 25 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
S. N. BROWN
Starkville, MS - S. N. Brown, 86, an educator with Wood Jr. College, died December 8, 2002 at O’Brian’s Personal Care Home.
Graveside services are today, December 11, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Oktibbeha Memorial Park. Dr. Steve N. Brown and Rev. Prentiss Gordon will officiate. Welch Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Brown was born in Vance, MS. He was a former superintendent of Humphreys County. He worked in administration with funding at Wood Jr. College. He is preceded in death by his wife, Erline Gore Brown.
Survivors include, one daughter, Dr. Lynn Brown Wampler of Starksville, MS; one son, Dr. Steve N. Brown of Gainesville, GA; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

SUE L. JONES
Roswell, GA - Sue L. Jones, 86, a homemaker, died December 6, 2002, of heart failure, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Marietta, GA.
Funeral services were held December 9, 2002 at First Methodist Church in Belzoni with burial in Belzoni City Cemetery. Rev. Phillip Dearman officiated. Mortimer Funeral Home of Belzoni handled arrangements.
Mrs. Jones was born in Bolivar County and she was a former member of First Methodist Church in Belzoni. She was a former resident of Belzoni before moving to Marietta, GA in 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Jones.
Survivors include, two sons, William E. (Meredith) Jones of Gaithersburg, MD, and Allen (Fran) Jones of Roswell, GA; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and four nieces.
JACK NICHOLS
Silver City, MS - Jack Nichols, 85, a retired gin manager, died January 21, 2003, of heart failure, at Flowers Manor in Clarksdale, MS.
Funeral services were held January 24, 2003, at Mortimer Funeral Home Chapel in Belzoni with burial in Green crest Memorial Gardens. Rev. Richard Wiman officiated. Mortimer Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Mr. Nichols was born in Marie, AR, and lived in Humphreys County most of his life. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Nichols; sister, Mildred McElemurry and a daughter, Penny Nichols Willoughby.
Survivors include, one son, Tom Nichols of Collierville, TN; one sister, Maydell Garst of Silver City, MS; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Louise, MS - James G. Foster , 74, an LTV aviation plant mechanic, died January 22, 2003, at the Veterans Hospital.
A memorial service was held January 25, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Louise, MS. Mortimer Funeral Home of Belzoni handled arrangements.

Belzoni, MS - Joseph (J. P.) Hill, 58, a farm worker, died January 21, 2003, of heart failure.
Funeral services are today, January 29, 2003, 2:00 p.m., at Goodwill M. B. Church in Belzoni with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Belzoni is handling arrangements. Rev. Earl Reed will officiate.
Survivors include, two sons, Quentarius Hill and Roger Hill, both of Belzoni; one daughter, Sheena Hill of Belzoni; a special friend, Ms. Jessie Smith of Belzoni; two brothers, Willie James Hill and Dexter Hill, both of Apaka, FL; four sisters, Augusta Harris, Emma D. Hill and Virge Edwards, all of Pittsburgh, PA, and Floria Lee Jones of Apaka, FL; and two uncles and one aunt.

Belzoni, MS - Clem Hodo III, 32, a construction worker, died January 22, 2003, from an auto accident, in Biloxi, MS.
Graveside services were held January 25, 2003, at Gooden Lake Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bob Gilliland officiating. Mortimer Funeral Home of Belzoni handled arrangements.
Survivors include, a daughter, Alana Scarbourgh of Hurley, MS; his mother, Evelyn Hodo of Belzoni; seven sisters, Connie Guzman of Branson, MO, Suzanne Hodo and Candy Bordeaux, both of Belzoni, Amanda Carroll of Yazoo City, MS, Margie Mansfield and Tammy Cash, both of Gautier, MS, and Loretta Verrett of Hurley, MS; one brother, Brian Hodo of Yazoo City, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
FLO ANN PEEPLES
Louise, MS - Flo Ann Peeples, 66, a homemaker, died January 27, 2003, of leukemia, at NC, to Lonnie and Laura Johnson Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam G. Manning.
Survivors include, one son, Sam Manning, Jr. of Yazoo City, MS; three daughters, Laura Moore and Gloria Dees, both of Yazoo City, MS, and Frances Saxton of Belzoni; three sisters, Doris Romanoski of Dallas, NC, and Julia Allen of Wilmington, NC; two brothers, Don Campbell of Atlanta, GA, and Lawrence Campbell of Jordanville, NY; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers were J. J. Dees, Jordan Alford, Howard Pearson, Harold Dees, Colby Alford, Joe Johnston, and Mike Moore.
