Roger Wayne Shelton
EPPS, La. - Roger Wayne Shelton died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at his home in Epps, La. He was 44.
Mr. Shelton was born in Topeka, Kan.
He is survived by his wife, Robin Shelton of Epps; three daughters, Katheryn Shelton and Caty Moore, both of Epps, and Angela Nicole Shelton Mitchell of Oak Grove; his parents, Robert A. and Ruth A. Holloway Shelton of Many, La.; two brothers, Robert Shelton of Mansfield, La., and Marty Shelton of Forest, La.; and two sisters, Beverly J. Lockwood of Lawrence, Kan., and Valerie Mississippi. He was selected for Who's Who Among American High School Teachers and awarded the Star Teacher Award. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, American Chemical Society, National Science Teachers Association and Vicksburg Chapter of National Teachers Association. He taught in Drew and the Vicksburg Warren School District for 38 years, including at Lucy Jefferson Junior High School, Rosa A. Temple High School, North Vicksburg High and Vicksburg High School.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Rhodes Tyler, and his sister, Dr. Lelia Tyler Sanders.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Thomas Tyler; two daughters, Tammie Tyler Hauser of Jackson and Tonya Michelle Tyler of Baton Rouge; his father and stepmother, Willard Tyler Sr. and Saltine Tyler of Vicksburg; one brother, Maxwell Tyler of Vicksburg; four sisters, Wilbur Tyler Clay and Charlotte Sanders Tyler, both of Vicksburg, Linda Sanders Tyler Gater of Jackson and Dr. Deidre Ann Tyler of Salt Lake City; and two grandchildren.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Monroe Washington Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 56.
Mr. Washington Sr. and Downsy Stewart; a daughter, Doris Ann Washington and Clarence Washington III and Luther Charles Washington and Steve Washington of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Willard Lloyd Tyler Jr.
Services for Willard Lloyd Tyler Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Family Life Cathedral with the Rev. Maxwell Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service at the church.
Mr. Tyler died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at River Region Medical Center. He was 63.
Mr. Tyler was a resident of Vicksburg. He was a 1958 graduate of Bowman High School. He received a bachelor's degree in science from Jackson College in 1962 and a master of science degree in education with concentration in chemistry from Tuskegee Institute in 1966.
Mr. Tyler furthered his studies at Baylor University and the University of Southern Calif. He was 59.
Mr. Baldwin was born in Vicksburg and was retired as a wheel molder at Keystone Automotive Factory.
He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Baldwin Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Mezon Sanders Baldwin; one son, J.B. Baldwin Jr. of Ontario; one daughter, Angela Baldwin of Ontario; his mother, Mary Pinkston Baldwin of Vicksburg; three brothers, Douglas Baldwin Jr. of Hollandale, Cleo Baldwin of Vicksburg and Calvin Baldwin of San Bernadino, Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.
He was a recipient of the Duke of Paducah and Thompson of Stockbridge, Ga.; one son, James Everett Graham of Paducah; one sister, Nancy Trueman of Austin, Kentucky Chapter, 3703 Taylorsville Road, Suite 102, Louisville, KY 40220-1330.
Col. Henry Clay Kirk
Col. Henry Clay Kirk, a longtime resident of Columbus, Miss., died after a brief illness at the Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Scott Reiber, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lake Prairie Cemetery in Lowell, Ind., where he will be interred beside Frances Dahl Kirk, his wife of 56 years.
Col. Kirk was born at the family farm near Winfield, Ala., on Jan. 10, 1922. He attended Wayside Elementary School and graduated from Wayside High School in 1940. While attending Auburn University, he was drafted in 1943 into the United States Army. After basic training at Fort Bragg, N.C., he completed officer candidate school at Fort Sill, Okla., in June 1944, Commissioned Field Artillery, and was assigned to the 102nd Infantry Division in European Theater. Col. Kirk served as an artillery forward observer with an infantry rifle company and as executive officer of an artillery firing battery. At the end of World War II, his unit encountered Soviet forces along the Elbe River.
In 1947, he married Margaret Frances Dahl of Lowell.
During the early 1950s, then captain, he was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division along the 38th Parallel in Korea. There, he directed artillery fires and air support for the United Nations forces in the Chorwon Sector during the bitter battles in the latter stages of the Korean War.
His third conflict began in the central highlands of the Republic of Vietnam in August of 1967. He was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division where he eventually became the division artillery commander. While in Vietnam he was selected for promotion to colonel, transferred to Army Headquarters, and assigned as Army artillery officer where he was responsible for positioning artillery units through the country.
Between wars he completed requirements for his bachelor's degree from Auburn University. He attended the Field Artillery officer advanced course, the Army command and General Staff college, and commanded an artillery battalion in the 35th Field Artillery. After retirement from the Army in 1974, he managed shopping malls, enjoyed raising and training bird dogs, and traveled extensively in the United States and Canada with his wife, Frances.
He is survived by Frederick C. Kirk of Gainesville, Ga.; Dr. James P. Kirk; a daughter-in-law, Karen W. Kirk; and two grandsons, Sam and Lee Kirk of Vicksburg.

Blanche Johnson Loviza
MONROE - Blanche Johnson Loviza died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 94.
Mrs. Loviza was born in Monroe to Wellman H. and Margaret Martin Johnson. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Our Lady of Fatima Altar Society, Our Lady of Fatima Pioneers Club and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
She was a charter member of The Club 60 Primetime Seniorcisers and participated in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo P. Loviza; a son, Leo E. Loviza; and a grandson, Jeffery S. Loviza.
Survivors include one son, Wellman J. Loviza of Seabrook, Parker died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Shady Lawn Convalescent Home. She was 82.
Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Henrietta Schmid.
Mrs. Parker of Vicksburg, and four grandchildren, Lisa M. Parker of the University of Parker will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Harper, pastor of Hawkins United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at Riles Funeral Home from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Lee Lazor, Andrew Cook, Victor Parker, Larry McWilliams Jr., Burkett Martin, Ray Bufkin, Sam Price and Calvin Stephens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oren Bailess, Charles H. Abraham and Dr. Walter Johnston Jr.
