Died: Friday, November 24, 2000
Services for Syble Dodson Hudspeth, 79, of Tunica were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2000 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw, Miss. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.
Mrs. Hudspeth, a homemaker, died November 24 at Baptist Hospital Desoto in Southaven, Miss. She was born in Panola County on January 1, 1921. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Hudpeth Messer of Tunica and Carolyn Hudspeth Word of Clarksdale, Miss.; two sons, Robert Hudspeth and James Hudspeth, both of Tunica; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Hudspeth and one son, Dewitt Hudspeth.
Mary Elizabeth Haley
Died: Tuesday, November 14, 2000
Services for Mary Elizabeth Haley, 72, of Clarksdale, Miss., were held Thursday, November 16, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, with burial in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clarksdale. Father Kent Bowlds officiated and National Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Haley, who was retired from Clarksdale Water and Light Dept., was born in Lyon, Miss., and graduated from Friars Point High School in Friars Point. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband E.O. "Chubby" Haley of Clarksdale; three sons, Charles Thomas Haley of Grenada, Edgar Otis Haley III of Senatobia, and Billy Joe Haley of Clarksdale; one sister, Gloria Porter of Marietta, Ga.; and two brothers, Charles William Gho of Tunica and Joe Gho of Tulsa, Ok.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Delta Area Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Winnie Virginia Lee McCaskill
Died: Tuesday, November 14, 2000
Winnie Virginia Lee McCaskill, 90, of Memphis, formerly of Tunica, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at her home. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 18 at Lane Chapel CME Church in Tunica, with burial in the church cemetery.
The widow of Benjamin McCaskill, she is survived by three daughters, Ruby Walton Roberson, Portia Claudine McCaskill and Patricia McCaskill, all of Memphis; seven sons, Willie McCaskill, Benjamin McCaskill, Jr., Nkosi Ajanaku, Billy Gerome McCaskill, Frenchie McCaskill, and Roosevelt Roger McCaskill, all of Memphis, and Joe Dean McCaskill of Arkabutla, Miss.; one sister, Henrietta Dawkins of Memphis; and one brother, Henry Dawkins, Jr., also of Memphis.
Charlene Vaughn
Died: Sunday, November 12, 2000
Services for Charlene Vaughn, 27, of Tunica were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 18 at Antioch M.B. Church in Tunica, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery here. Ms. Vaughn, a cook at Fitzgeralds Casino, died Sunday, November 12, in an automobile accident near Robinsonville.
She is survived by three daughters, LashondaVaughn, Jasmine Vaughn and Aloxus Vaughn, all of Tunica, and one son, Antonio Vaughn of Tunica; her mother, Ethel Vaughn of Tunica; thirteen sisters, Gloria Judd, Debra Vaughn, Phyllis Williams, Tracy Vaughn, Linda Vaughn, Teola Douglas, Ann Collier, Dorothy Dunn, Paulette Vaughn, Betty Vaughn, and Mary Vaughn, all of Tunica, and Carolyn Judd and Betty Seals, both of Memphis; and eight brothers, James Vaughn, Bobby Collier, and Robert Vaughn, Jr., all of Tunica, Willie Vaughn, Charles Vaughn, and Johnny Vaughn, all of Bell Glaze, Georgia, and Kelly Brou of Metairie, La. and one brother, Roy Briscoe of Senatobia, Miss.
Jo Anne Hawkins Van Every
Died: Thursday, October 26, 2000
Services for Mrs. Jo Anne Hawkins Van Every, 50, of Senatobia, Miss., were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2000, at Senatobia First United Methodist Church in Senatobia, with burial in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Gene Horton officated at the services, and C.O. Pate Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Van Every, a nursing instructor at Southwest Tenn. Community College, died in an automobile accident on Wednesday, October 26. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Senatobia.
Mrs. Van Every is survived by her husband Kelsey Van Every of Senatobia; two daughters, Anna Claire Van Every and Carrie Katherine Van Every of Senatobia; two sons, Jason Kelsey Van Every of Oxford, Miss. and Marcus Walker Van Every of Cleveland, Miss.; her mother, Ormarie Wainwright Hawkins of Tunica; one sister, Tina Marie Perry of Tunica; one brother, Joey Hawkins of Midland, Texas; and two grandsons, Easton Walker Van Every and Ronnie Vance Van Every.
Pallbearers were Christopher Perry, Pace Perry, Russell Turner, Mark Lambert, Votie Holmes, and Justin Jones.
Cheneese Reed
Died: Monday, October 23, 2000
Services for Miss Cheneese Reed, 24, of Tunica were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2000, at Antioch Church in White Oak, with burial in Crenshaw Cemetery. Rev. McKinley Daley officiated, and Henderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Reed died Monday, October 23. She was a cashier at Hollywood Casino. She is survived by one son, Charles Montrell Reed of Tunica, her parents Irene Reed and Willie Bryant of Tunica and Harvey Frost of Tunica; a special friend, Charles Franklin of Tunica; three sisters, Michelle Reed, Patricia Reed, and Sherkia Reed, all of Tunica; one brother, Terry Reed of Tunica; grandparents Lester and Ann Reed of Chicago, Illinois; uncles James Davis and James B. Davis of Tunica; and aunts Ida Mae Moore and Perline Jones of Tunica.
James Neely Grant
Died: Sunday, October 1, 2000
James Neely Grant, 76, of Robinsonville, Miss., died of a brain tumor in Vienna, Austria on Sunday, October 1, 2000. Services will be in Erb, Austria.
He was a graduate of the University of the South at Sewanee. He was a respected writer who had published short stories, a book of poetry and a novel dealing with life in the South.
Mr. Grant was an active member of his family's farming operation in Robinsonville. He had traveled and lived throughout Europe, where he married his wife Eleonore Haupt-Stummer Grant, who survives him. The family requests that memorials be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Joyce Gayden Jones
Died: Friday, September 29, 2000
Services for Mrs. Mary Joyce Gayden Jones, 52, of Tunica were held at Memoiral Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here. Rev. Eugene Howell of Batesville officiated, and Hernando Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Jim Brownlee, Gerald Parrish, Charles Howe, Dale Gayden, Brian Casey, and Chad Casey.
Mrs. Jones died September 29 at Tunica Convalescent Center. She was a shipping and receiving clerk for Tunica Manufacturing Co. and a member of Berea Baptist Church in Dubbs.
She is survived by her mother Mary Fay Gayden and father Claud Gayden, Jr., both of Tunica; five sisters, Bobby Jean Floyd of Staryhorn, Miss., Barbara Lila Brownlee of Batesville, Brenda Kaye Howe of Hernando, Miss., Robbie Marie Parrish of Batesville, and Patricia Ann Freeeman of Como, Miss.; and two brothers, Richard Gayden and James Richard Gayden, both of Tunica.
Arlon Benford Gattis

Services for Arlon Benford Gattis, 67, were held at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka, Miss., on September 28, 2000. Bro. D.W. Jonoes officiated at the services.
Mr. Gattis, a farmer, logger and devoted Christian, died Sept. 26 at Iuka Hospital. He is survived by his wife of forty years Virginia Hester Gattis; one son, Danny Gattis; one daughter, Patricia Gattis; grandson Adam Gattis; his mother Lola Dempsey Gattis Galbreath of Detroit, Ala.; two sisters, Carolyn Stewart of Tunica and Linda Congdon of Booneville, Miss.; two brothers, Billy Joe Gattis of Booneville and Rick Gattis of Detroit, Ala.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
James Wesley Morris

Services for James Wesley Morris, 69, of Robinsonville, Miss. were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2000 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Tunica, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.
Mr. Morris, a farm manager and mechanic, died Sept. 24 at Veterans' Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He had served in the U.S. Army.
He is survied by one daughter, Rochell Morris Knight of Olive Branch, Miss.; two sone, James Douglas Morris of Robinsonville and David W. Morris of Olive Branch; one sister, Bonnie Sue Lundy of Monroe, La.; one brother, Ralph Morris of Sarah, Miss.; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Perry, Steve Perry, Tommy Swindoll, Bill Griggs, aSteve O'Neal, and Richard Veazey.
Leanna Davis Hudspeth
Died: Thursday, September 7, 2000
Leanna Davis Hudspeth, infant daughter of James Mack and Michelle Hudspeth of Fulton, was stillborn Sept. 7, 2000 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Union City.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at East View Cemetery, with Dr. Bill Sims officiating.
The infant is also survived by grandparents Jimmy and Shirley Hudspeth of Tunica and Prentice and Carolyn Davis and Margaret Davis, all of Dewitt, Ark.; sister Madalyn and brother Franklin, both of Fulton; and great-grandparents Ella Rhaines of Dewitt, Syble Hudspeth of Tunica and Earlene Parrish of Sledge, Miss.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis or to KareBear Preschool in Union City.
Sarah J. Rowland

Graveside services for Sarah J. Rowland, 80, of Helena, Arkansas, were held at 3 p.m. today (Thursday), August 23, 2001 at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena, AR, with the Rev. Rodger Hooker officiating. Rowland, a retired licensed practical nurse, died August 19 in Helena Regional Medical Center.
She was a Tunica native, the daughter of Ernest Love and Nelle Coker Alexander. She is survived by her brother Ernest Campbell Alexander of Tunica; one sister, Delia A. Harthcock of Newton, Miss.; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
