Mrs. Wanda Lee Allen

Services for Mrs. Wanda Lee Allen, 40, of Chicago, Thompson officiated at the services.
Mrs. Allen, who was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, died September 29. She was a member of Grace Deliverance Temple Church, where she was vice president of the Nurses Auxiliary and active in the choir and many other aspects of church life.
Mrs. Allen was born in Tunica on August 6, 1962 to the late Dezarn Burks and Lela Mae Hamp. She was a graduate of Rosa Fort High School.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband Eugene David Allen; two daughters, Diamond Denise Wanda Allen and Janine Passion Kasandra Allen; three sons, Rashon Deonte Allen, Desmond Randall Allen, and Eugene David Allen, Jr.; five sisters, Roenia Lee, Theresa Watts, Rhonda Gray, Tinsa Walker, and Reatha Thomas; two brothers, Charlie C. Watts and Dezarn Burks; and many other family members and friends.
Mrs. Vesta Rose Burchfield
Died: Friday, September 20, 2002
Age: 78
Services for Mrs. Vesta Rose Burchfield, 78, of Tunica were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2002, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Danny Smith officiated at the services.
Mrs. Burchfield, a store clerk for Fred's for 30 years, died September 20 in an auto accident. She was born in Arkabutla, MS on September 3, 1924.
Mrs.Burchfield is survived by two daughters, Ella Louise Cyganek of Senatobia, MS, and Margaret Ruth Burchfield of Tunica; one son, Edward Levi Burchfield of Houston, Illinois.
Mr. Iversen is survived by his wife, P.K. Iversen of Tunica; his mother, Florence Frances Iversen of Lombard, Illinois.
The family requests that any memorials be made to Tunica United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Mary Jo Perry Cox
Died: Monday, June 03, 2002
Age: 86
Services for Mrs. Mary Jo Perry Cox, 86, of Tunica, were held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal in Tunica, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here. The Rev. Grady Richardson and the Rev. David Thom officiated at the services.
A lifelong Tunica homemaker, Mrs. Cox died Monday, June 3 at her home. Born in the Perry family home in Tunica County on December 15, 1915, Mrs. Cox was educated at All Saints in Vicksburg, St. Mary's in Memphis, and Dodd College in Shreveport, LA, then returned to Tunica, where she married the late Robert S. Cox and lived near her family's home for the balance of her life. She and her husband were married for over 55 years.
She and Mr. Cox enjoyed hunting and the outdoors together and were very active in their children's activities, especially 4-H and Girl Scouts, where Mrs. Cox was instrumental in bringing the program to Tunica County and in the construction of the old Scout hut in town. She also helped organize a local saddle club and supported her children's participation in this, as well as music, dance, and scholastics. She and Mr. Cox were also among the original supporters of Tunica Institute of Learning.
In later life, she enjoyed sewing and embroidery with a group of ladies in town. "Every stitch was perfect," said her oldest daughter Virginia Weeks of Memphis.
Mrs. Cox is survived by three other daughters, Judy C. Dykes of Alabaster, AL, Dr. Jo Cochran of Memphis, and Pam C. Powell of Birmingham, AL; one son, Robert S. Cox III of Mountain Home, AR; two sisters, Virginia Perry Weller of Tustin, CA, and Elizabeth Perry Shipley of Orange, CA; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were George Pace Perry, Duke Perry, Pace Perry, Chris Perry, Steve Perry, Whit Perry, Alex Perry, and Mike Perry. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Musgrave, Jim Ridley, and Mike Boren.
The family requests memorials to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Sarah Seaton Wilson

Age: 75
Services for Mrs. Sarah Seaton Wilson, 75, of Tunica were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2002, at Tunica United Methodist Church, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.
Mrs.Wilson, a retired clerk for Ms. Power & Light Co., died May 17 at Baptist Progressive Care in Southaven, MS, following a long illness. She was a member of Tunica Methodist Church and the Tunica County Woman's Club.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband James M. Wilson of Tunica; one daughter, Barbara Tutless of Olive Branch, MS; and one sister, Clara Paeglow of Memphis, TN.
Pallbearers were Jim Mason, Jimmy Eubanks, Brad Cobb, Kent Taylor, Hugh Hawkins, and Francis Boyd. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Rushton, Wayne Rials, Manny Rico, Jim Tucker, Larry Sowell, and Paulette Ellison.
Mrs. Corrine Virginia Simmons-Allen

Services for Mrs. Corrine Virginia Simmons-Allen, 94, of Shelby, Illinois.
Mrs. Simmons-Allen, a former Tunican, died May 15 at her home. She was a skilled seanstress, a babysitter, and a farmer and gardener. Born the third of eleven children of William Brisco Simmons and Mary Holmes-Simmons on September 1, 1907, she was educated in Duncan, Tunica and Vicksburg. She was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church for 40 years and a member of the St. Laurence Women's Club.
Mrs. Simmons-Allen is survived by four daughters, Jennie Lee Burton, Doris Jean Smith, Everette Lee LuVert, and Verdean Buford; one brother, William Brisco Simmons II; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Allen.
Reginald O'Hara Hudson
Died: Wednesday, May 15, 2002
Age: 47
Services for Reginald O'Hara Hudson, 47, of Chicago, Illinois. He was a member of First Church of Deliverance, where he served as usher. Butch, as he was fondly called, graduated with honors from Rosa Fort High School in 1972. He toured Europe as a member of America Youth in Concert, then enrolled at Jackson State University, where he earned a bachelors degree in business administration. He also received a degree in cosmetology and was a Prince Hall Mason-Crump Lodge 60.
Mr. Hudson is survived by his parents James and Lucille Hudson of Tunica; five brothers, Mark Hudson of Chicago, Larry McKinney and Kenneth Hudson, both of Memphis, TN, and Van Siggers and Anthony Hudson of Tunica; two sisters, Regina Kirtz of Detroit, MI and Timitra Hudson of Memphis; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Carl Hudson.
Billis D. Frew

Age: 78
Services for Billis D. Frew, 78, of Madison, MS, formerly of Tunica, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery here.
Mr. Frew, who was retired from MS. Federated Corp., died May 14 at the Veterans' Hospital in Jackson, MS. He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He is survived by his wife Francis Savage Frew of Madison; one daughter, Billie F. Frew of Jackson, MS; three sons, David Frew of Pineville, LA, Dennis Frew of Pascagoula, MS, and Timmie D. Frew of Green ville, MS; two sisters, Wanda Smart of Stevens, AL, and Betty Bailey of St.Louis, MO; one brother, Jimmie Frew of McAlister, OK; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann Rose, 61, of Tunica, Mississippi on April 19, 1941. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her father, Mr. E.M. Wilson of Hernando, MS; two daughters, Terri Holt of Memphis, TN and Rhonda Winkler of Little Rock, AR; a sister, Betty Bennett of Hernando, MS; a brother, Bobby Wilson of Washington State, and Kimberley Terry of Virginia; two sons, Tom Clark, Jr. of Washington State and Casey Wayne Clark of Horn Lake, MS; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
