Joseph P. Templeton
Joseph Price Templeton.
He was a retired first mate on a riverboat and a member of Centreville Baptist Church. He was also a Mason and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Liberty. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
Mr. Templeton was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nannie Mae “Dump” Templeton.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth and Joe Russell of Baton Rouge, La., and Janice Templeton of Centreville; one brother, Pete Templeton of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Joleen Stephens of Union Grove, Ala., and Jennifer Ginn of Pride, La.; and three great-grandchildren.
Beulah Ballard
Beulah Ballard, 90, of Monticello, died of heart failure Sept. 20, 2000, at Lawrence County Hospital.
Services were 2 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, with the Rev. Fred Morris officiating. Burial was at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello.
Miss Ballard was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Monticello. She was the daughter of Robert Ballard and Nannie Fuller Ballard.
She was disabled and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Miss Ballard was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, Hulon Ballard, four other brothers, Recie, Plez, Ray and Chesterfield Ballard; and three sisters, Eliza Jane Williamson, Evelyn Thames and Maggie Ballard.
Survivors include a sister, Rosie Belle Smithie of Jayess.
Helen W. Maxwell
Helen Mariah Wall Maxwell, 54, of Brookhaven, died there of a heart attack Sept. 16, 2000, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.
Visitation is noon-7 p.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Collins Grove Baptist Church in Summit, with Bishop Robert N.Y.; one stepdaughter, Geraldine White of Brookhaven; five brothers, Roosevelt Dixon of Billings, Mont., Frank Dixon of Los Angeles, and Elijah, Donald and Willie Wall, all of Summit; four sisters, Ethel Dixon of Summit, Louise Wall Bates of Chicago, and Lucille Wright and Sarah Frances Wall, both of Milwaukee; three grandchildren, three uncles and two aunts.
Estella L. Givens
Estella L. Givens, 87, of McComb, died Sept. 20, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.
Mr. Brumfield was born Dec. 29, 1948, in Pike County.

Edna Creel died Sept. 21, 2000, at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond, La.

Marvin L. Thornton
Marvin L. Thornton, 76, of Smithdale, died Sept. 21, 2000, at his residence.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Friday at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Smithdale. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Hugh F. ‘Duke’ Brown
Hugh Francis “Duke” Brown, 66, of Osyka, died April 4, 2000, at his residence.
Services were 11 a.m. today at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown. The Rev. Billy Ray Simmons officiated. Burial was at Centerville Cemetery in the Lexie community.
Mr. Brown was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Pike County. He was the son of Hubert Allen and Freddie Beatrice Smith Brown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include one son, Elton Brown of Osyka; one brother, Lynn H. Brown of the Progress community; and two sisters, Thiry Fegan and Peggy Alford, both of Tylertown.
Pallbearers were Alvin Alford, George Alford, Craig Brown, Wade Brown, Lynn Brown and Hugh Elton Brown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Silver Springs Baptist Church or a charity of choice.
Carrie A. Penny
Carrie Lou Austin Penny, 71, of Clinton, La., and formerly of Pride, La., died April 5, 2000, at Grace Nursing Home in Clinton.
Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary, La., and 9 a.m. Friday until services there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Milldale Baptist Church Cemetery in Pride.
Mrs. Penny was born in Pride.
She was a retired ward clerk with Green well Springs Hospital in Green well Springs, La., where she worked for 27 years. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Gillsburg.
Mrs. Penny was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Penny; one brother, Willie J. Austin; and one granddaughter, Dana Lou Willson.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Jean and Coon Willson of Gillsburg and Dicey and Rick Smith of Arlington, Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, and a member of Central Baptist Church. He was a member of United Transportation Union.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Homer and Frank Evans; and one sister, Helen Latino.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Evans of Summit; one son, Dr. Thomas C. Evans Jr. of McComb; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bilbo Reed
Bilbo Reed, 90, of the Montgomery community in Lincoln County, died of respiratory failure May 28, 2000, at his residence.
Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, and 9 a.m. Tuesday until services in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jerry Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit.
Mr. Reed was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Oktibbeha County. He was the son of Jessie L. Reed and Martha Kimball Reed.
He was a retired planer operator for Seago Lumber Co. in McComb, where he worked for 20 years. He attended Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church in Brookhaven.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mamie Fisher Reed; one daughter, Annette Reed; one grandson, Ricky Stevens; and one sister, Mittie Suber.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Cruse Reed of Summit; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Lyvonne Reed and James Reed, all of Summit, Elvis Reed of Tupelo and Tim Reed of Brookhaven; four daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Dave Rushing of Eupora, Mary and Lonnie Wylie of Green ville, and Patsy and Billy Carson and Peggy and Lewis Roja, all of Brookhaven; two brothers, Lloyd Reed and C.A. Reed, both of Mobile, Ala.; six sisters, Stella Mae Brooks and Bertha Hightower, both of Ackerman, Plummie Lee Dladry of Eupora, Annie Jewel Tabb of Houston, Virginia Shaivers of Mobile and Earline Miller of Mathiston; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Reed, James Reed Jr., Joe Martin, Billy Carson, Nickie Wylie and Mary Vance.
Virginia W. Bailey
Virginia Edith Weeks Bailey, 92, of the Barlow community, died May 27, 2000, at McComb Extended Care Center.
Services were 10 a.m. today at East Union Baptist Church in Magnolia, with the Rev. John Reed officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hartman Funeral Home of McComb was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bailey was born March 18, 1908, in Copiah County. She was the daughter of Allison F. Weeks and Florence Beulah Fore Weeks.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rehobeth Methodist Church in Barlow. She attended and was active in East Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lonzo B. Bailey; and two brothers, Allison F. Weeks and William Carey Weeks.
Survivors include two sisters and one brother-in-law, Vera Louise and Hollis T. Lang of Magnolia and Della Beulah Robinson of Nederland, Texas; two nieces, one nephew, three great-nieces and five great-nephews.
Pallbearers were Roy Lang, Allen Parnell, Snuffy Smith, Pymm West, Joey Allen and James Hucabee.
