Elizabeth Johnston
Elizabeth Johnston, 51, of Jackson, died of cancer May 26, 2000, at her residence.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson, and 10 a.m. Tuesday until services there at 11 a.m. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb. Hartman Funeral Home of McComb is in charge of local arrangements.
Ms. Johnston was born Aug. 28, 1948, in New Orleans. She was the daughter of Willene Johnston of Jackson and the late Garvin H. Johnston, the last elected state superintendent of education in Mississippi Medical Center, where her main duties included training physicians in the practice of family medicine. She had several articles published in different journals of medicine and several medical school textbooks. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Social Sorority and M.E.N.S.A. She had lived in Jackson since 1976. She was a graduate of Poplarville High School and Pearl River Junior College. She graduated from Delta State University with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Survivors include her mother; one son, Philip Walley of Ridgeland; one daughter, Lisa Redditt of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; one sister, Bobette Holcomb of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jimmie ‘Tina’ Goodwin
Jimmie Nell “Tina” Goodwin, 64, of Baker, La., died May 28, 2000, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Visitation is 1 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster until memorial services there at 3 p.m. The Rev. Dennis Fink will officiate. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery in Gloster.
Mrs. Goodwin was born Sept. 28, 1935, in Bogue Chitto. She was the daughter of Bernard Calif.
Mrs. Goodwin was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bernard “Butch” Ewing; and one brother, F. Lee Carter.
Survivors include one daughter, Fay Ayers of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Jacob and Kaitlyn Ayers; two nephews, Rob Calif., and Randy Calif.; two aunts, Clara Freeman of Picayune and Pearl McNeil of Gloster; and an abundance of loving cousins, including the Lawrence and Kyzar families.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Carol S. Wimberly
Carol S. Wimberly, 93, of McComb and formerly of Corinth, died March 2, 2000, at her residence in McComb.
Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home in McComb. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Scottsboro, Ala.
Mrs. Wimberly was born March 29, 1906, in Madison County, Ala. She was the daughter of Charles Alexander Stearnes and Nancy Chandler Stearnes.
She was a homemaker, and in her later years served as manager of East Corinth Elementary School Cafeteria. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Corinth.
She resided in McComb for the past three years. She had been active as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, working for many years in the blood donor program. She was also active with the Corinth Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Wimberly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L.E. Wimberly; two brothers, Kenner C. Stearnes and Charles Sloan Stearnes; and three sisters, Valeria Moses, Evelyn Patterson and Nannie Boyd Stearns.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Bonnie Wimberly of Summit; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bill Davis of St. Joseph, Mo., and Betty and Frank Davis of Killen, Ala.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Sue Carol Duvall and Ron of Augusta, Ga., Jane Nold and Greg, Bill Davis Jr. and Kim, and Bobby Davis and Lorna, all of St. Joseph, Mo., Frank R. Davis Jr. of Ghana, Africa, Cindy O’Reilly and Tom of Columbia, Tenn., Marty Davis and Rhonda of Sumter, S.C., Michael Wimberly of Jackson and Ellen Wimberly of Cleveland; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mable Cockerham
Mable Cockerham, 75, of Summit, died Feb. 25, 2000, at Southwest Florida M. Cook
Washington Funeral Home in Tylertown and continues through wake services there from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Tylertown, with the Rev. James Daniel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cook was born July 10, 1911, in Tylertown. She was the daughter of Bert and Rachel May.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jessie Roe Cook Sr.; and one son, Jessie Roe Cook Jr.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. and Emma Jean Cook of Tylertown and Eugene and Coreane Cook of Magnolia; three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and C.J. Byrd and Lucille and B.J. Byrd, all of Tylertown, and Ollie Jean and Landry C. Handy Sr. of New Orleans; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maxine C. Twiner
Maxine Cloy Twiner, 83, of Meadville, died of cancer Oct. 2, 2000, at her residence.
Visitation continued until services today at 2 p.m. at Bunkley Baptist Church in Franklin County. The Rev. Mike Morris and the Rev. Kenny Wilson officiate. Burial is in the church cemetery. Franklin Funeral Home of Meadville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Twiner was born July 7, 1917, in Franklin County. She was the daughter of Thomas Cloy and Elizabeth Murray Cloy.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bunkley Baptist Church.
Mrs. Twiner was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband, A.J. Twiner of Meadville; one son, Charles Twiner of Meadville; five daughters, Betty Joe Bedford, Charlotte Chance and Gail Arnold, all of Meadville, Jannette Dykes of Smithdale and Patricia Griffin of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Jerry Chance, Andy Dykes, Brad Mullins, Kevin King, Rob Morgan, Darren Twiner, Wade Jackson, Tommy Walker and Ed Young.
Charles W. Crosby Sr.
Charles William “Charlie” Crosby Sr., 71, of Natchez, died Oct. 1, 2000, at his residence.
Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Community Chapel Church of God in Natchez, with the Rev. Steve Pearson officiating. Burial was in Green lawn Memorial Park, with Laird Funeral Home of Natchez in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Crosby was born Feb. 22, 1929, in McComb. He was the son of Audie Johnson Crosby and Rose Mary Deppiesse Crosby.
He retired from Entergy Corp. in March 1991 where he worked for 43 years, and was a member of Entergy Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Community Chapel Church of God.
Mr. Crosby was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Nettie Beatrice “Bea” Crosby.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tiffany Crosby of Natchez; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Jan Hilburn, Ginny and Rudy Avara and Terry and Scott Russ, all of Natchez, and Sauncee and Larry Huff of Ocean Springs; 11 grandchildren, Brittany and Shan Hilbun, Bubba Humphrey, Alexis Avara, Audie and Haden Crosby, Kacy and Krissy Russ and Sara, Neil and Austin Huff; and one sister and brother-in-law, Lavern and Harold Cowart of Smithdale.
Pallbearers were Carol Pearson, Frank Causey, Mike Myers, Greg Smith, Travis Warren and James Huff. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Jack Rodriquez, Bud Parish, Julian Delaughter and Churchmen of Community Chapel Church of God.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Chapel Church of God building fund, youth fund or a charity of choice.
Faye C. Booty
Faye Cutrer Booty, 91, of Kentwood, La., died Oct. 3, 2000, at her residence.
Visitation is 6-10 tonight at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood, and from 8 a.m. Thursday until services there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood.
Mrs. Booty was born March 12, 1909, in Spring Creek, La. She was the daughter of Guy Cutrer and America Pierce Cutrer.
She was a homemaker and a member of Kentwood Church of God, which is now New Covenant Church of God, for 75 years. She also attended Kentwood First Baptist Church with her family.
Mrs. Booty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer J. Booty; one brother, Herman Cutrer; and one grandson, Ricky D. Booty.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Verlin and Mary Booty of Satsuma, La., Alton and Dolly Booty of San Antonio, Texas, Dennis and Juanita Booty of Walker, La., and Lindsey and Jo Ann Booty of Kentwood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris B. and Clarence “Tut” Young and Betty B. and Bobby R. Simpson, all of Kentwood; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
