Carolyn M. Stevens

Carolyn McGregor Stevens, 76, longtime resident of Denham Springs, La., died Sept. 24, 2000, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville.

Visitation is 2 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster until services there at 3 p.m. Bro. James Pitt will officiate. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Gloster.

Mrs. Stevens was born Aug. 8, 1924, in Louisville, Ky. She was the daughter of Hollis McGregor and Minnie McGregor.

She was retired from Sears and Roebuck Co., where she worked in sales. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elton M. Stevens; and one daughter, Katherine Stevens Long.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James E. and Jan Stevens of Gloster; four granddaughters, Michelle R. Stevens of Arlington, Va., Andrea D. Long of Denham Springs, La., Carolyn Boze of Chesapeake, Va., and Lisa K. Guidry of Baton Rouge, La.; one great-grandchild, Brenden Long; and one sister, Ida Perkins.

Ceola W. Baker

Ceola W. Baker, 90, of Magnolia, died Sept. 25, 2000, at Southwest Georgia and Cameron streets in McComb. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Tera Mae Rutland Bardwell; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jack Wilson of McComb; one grandson and his wife, Benjy and Tracy Wilson of Brandon; one great-grandson, Tyler Wilson of Brandon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Nephews and great-nephews will be pallbearers.

Catherine Lewis Young

Catherine Lewis Young, 49, of McComb died Sept. 23, 2000.

Visitation at Young’s Funeral Home will be Friday from noon until services there at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Fernwood.

Mrs. Young was born Dec. 2, 1950, in Pike County. She was the daughter of Jessie Lewis and Ruby Butler.

She worked at Sanderson Farms in Pike County.

She is survived by her husband, John L. Young of Bogue Chitto; two children, Barbara Day Cain Watkins and husband Daryl Watkins and Paula Day, all of McComb; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Thomas Butler, Jessie Lewis, and L.C. and Gwen Lewis, all of McComb; two sisters, Hattie Lewis Tate and husband Thomas of Summit and Julia Lewis of McComb; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; three grandchildren, Glennecha Cain, Shandy Day and Alexie Day, all of McComb; four special friends, Rose Smith of McComb, Johnnie Cook of Summit, Louise Ramsey of the Gulf Coast and Dorothy Richardson of Brookhaven; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John C. Grady Sr.

John C. Grady Sr., 77, of McComb, died, Sept. 24, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Power and Light.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Grady of McComb; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eddis the Rev. Welmon Taylor of Magnolia, Edna and Quille Chapman of Chicago and Elnora and Weldon Anderson of New Orleans; seven sons and daughters-in-law, John Grady Jr. and wife Barbara, Clifton Grady Sr. and wife Carolyn, Curley Grady Sr. and wife Rose and Dudley Grady Sr. and wife Sylvia, all of New Orleans, Marshall Grady Sr. and wife Pamela of Gary, Ind., Roosevelt Grady of McComb and Flozell and Pricilla Grady of Natchez; one sister and brother-in-law, Jessie Mae and Louis Carpenter of Hattiesburg; two brothers and eight sisters-in-law, Curtis and Alfria Grady of McComb, Jessie and Pricilla Grady of Morgan City, La., Linda Grady, Gloria Grady, Katherine Grady and Dorothy Mae Grady Hill, all of McComb, Savannah Grady of Magnolia and Bobbie Grady of Jackson; two aunts, Alma Waldo of Centralia, Ill., and Verlena Ashley of McComb; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Tommy Louis Gill

Tommy Louis Gill, 71, of Tylertown, died Sept. 25, 2000, at Forrest County General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home chapel in Tylertown. The Rev. Bobby Spears is officiating. Burial will be in Holmes Cemetery.

Mr. Gill was born Sept. 14, 1929, in Livingston Parish, La. He was the son of the late Sidney Thomas and Inez Comaeux Gill.

He was a retired boilermaker with Exxon Oil Company and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He also was a member of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. In addition, he had worked for the Baton Rouge, La., Police Department.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Herring Gill of Tylertown; two sons, Clifton Louis Gill and Raymond Earl Gill, both of Tylertown; two daughters, Pamela Ann Hill and Amanda Gill, both of Tylertown; one brother, Robert Gill of Denham Springs, La.; and five grandchildren.

Donald Ray Morris

Donald Ray Morris, 48, of Tylertown, died Sept. 25, 2000, at Forrest County General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

Services are at 3 p.m. today at the chapel of Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home in Tylertown. The Revs. Mike Morris and Donald Pouns will officiate. Burial will be in the Rushing Cemetery.

Mr. Morris was born Jan. 21, 1952, in Walthall County. He was the son of Alton Monroe and Kathleen Rushing Morris.

He had worked at the Kramertown Feed Store in McComb for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Karen Espinoza and Barbara Oxner and one nephew, Billy Morris.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Morris is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Patrick Ray and Robin Morris of McComb and Cory Rushing of Tylertown; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William “Bill” Morris of Tylertown and Johnny T. and Marcia Morris of Magnolia; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Sherry and Earl Boyd of Tylertown, Belinda Jane Morris and Teresa Morris, both of Bogalusa, La.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Mike Morris, Anson Morris, Donald Pouns, Jake Morris, James Albert Stinson and Joseph Pigott.

Vera M. Zachary

Vera Inez McCauley Zachary, 73, of Gloster, died Sept. 25, 2000, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville.

Services were 11 a.m. today at Brown Funeral Home chapel in Gloster. The Rev. Errol Faust officiated. Burial was in Jackson City Cemetery in Jackson, La.

Mrs. Zachary, a longtime resident of Zachary, was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Laurel Hill, La. She was the daughter of Henry Thomas McCauley and Ruby McKlemurray McCauley Jester.

She was retired from the East Mississippi Christian Association and was a gospel soloist by popular demand. He was superintendent of the Lone Star Sunday School Convention and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 633. He also was a Sunday school teacher and associated with the Deacons Institute.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife Alice Dawson of Osyka; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Bertha Dawson, Tommie Jr. and Helen Dawson, and Leslie and Dorothy Dawson; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Irma J. Palmer, Ruby Ann and Henry Ratcliff, Norma Halloway, Katherine and Henry Banks, Pearl Marie Porter, Delores C. Dawson and Shirley and Jerome Trevillion.

Pallbearers are Alphonse Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Visitation is Friday from 5-9 p.m. at Hartman Funeral Home and will continue Saturday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Iowa. Her mother was the late Mae Little Paterson.

She was retired from McComb Extended Care Nursing Home, where she was employed as a nurse. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Price dale. She held many teaching positions through the years. She was a member of the choir, which brought her great joy, and was very active in the WMU.

Mrs. Busby was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Frank D. Busby Sr.; and a sister, Helen P. Grady.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, F. David Busby Jr. and Martha of McComb, George H. and Sharon Busby of Clinton, John R. and Ellie Busby of Ruth and Joe R. and Melanie Busby of Hayes, Kans.; one daughter, Letha B. Greer and her husband Legette of Jayess; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three nephews.

Pallbearers will be Don Thomas Greer, Jeremy Greer, Gregory Greer, Christopher Busby, Grant Busby and Steven Bowling. Honorary pallbearers are Nathan, Paul, Lance, Ross and Barry Busby.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Baptist Children’s Village or The American Heart Association.

Earl L. McKey

Earl Lee McKey, 79, of Centreville, died Sept. 24, 2000, at a hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville. Newman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McKey was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Centreville to Lee and Bessie Barker McKey.

He was a car salesman, a veteran of World War II and had resided in Wagoner, Okla., for 30 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Hilda Rae, Wanda, and Peggy; and one infant sister Myrtis McKey.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Patsy and Ronnie Trupp of Metairie, La., Brenda Kay and Chip Cooke of Kenner, La., Wanda Faye and Mark Brown of Memphis, Tenn., and Connie and Jerry Bordelon of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Crow and Myrtle Taylor, both of Baton Rouge, La.; four grandchildren, Rae Lee Tidrick, Rhonda Buisson, Billy Cooke and Kimberly Bordelon; and five great-grandchildren.
