William M. Parker
Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at Coalville United Methodist Church.
BILOXI - William M. "Bill" Parker, 91, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, in Gulfport.
Mr. Washington, D.C., and was a 1953 graduate of Dunbar High School in Ohio, and San Diego State University where he majored in business administration. He was a member of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church in Perkinston. He was employed with the Internal Revenue Service for six years, Rohr Industries for five years, Ratner Mfg. Co., for seven years and Honeywell/HFSI/WANG for almost 20 years as a computer programmer, computer specialist and educator. He retired from Wang Government Services, Inc., in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar C. Phoenix Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Clarece Phoenix of Wiggins; four sons, Aaron A. Phoenix and Walter Fairley Jr., both of San Diego, Ken Fairley of Wiggins and Jeffery Phoenix of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Leonard Maurice Phoenix of Tennessee" Bridges, 60, of 387 Fayard St., died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in Biloxi.
Mr. Bridges was born April 18, 1940, in Monticello. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Biloxi where he was a parking attendant and a custodian of the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Bridges.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Minnie L. Stewart of Biloxi; three daughters, Charlotte California; four stepsons, Lavelle Stewart, Charles Stewart, Robert Stewart and Howard Stewart, all of Biloxi; his mother, Quille Webster of Biloxi; three sisters, Mary C. Crockett and Ethel Augustin, both of Biloxi, and Marretta Bridges of Chicago; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at Richmond Funeral Home in Biloxi. A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Biloxi where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.
James Edwin Byrd
Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at White Funeral Home Chapel in Poplarville.
POPLARVILLE - Mr. James Edwin Byrd, 78, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Collins.
Mr. Byrd was retired from the Army after 24 years of service. He served as Pearl River County VA officer for 16 years and was the mayor of Poplarville for one term. He was a member of Fords Creek Baptist Church in Poplarville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Byrd; and a daughter, Terry Luper.
Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Byrd of Poplarville; two daughters, Jenny Ladner of Poplarville and Toni Newman of Houston, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Oliver E. Diaz Jr. , Ferrell (Bubba) Diaz, Craig Diaz, Dusti Diaz, Joni Gollott, Susan Reynolds, Delane Krause, Nichelle Russell, Ashleigh Wilson, Arney Gollott, Todd Gollott, Mattie Rae Seymour; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville on Friday, May 5, 2000, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a mass being said at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Moran Family Cemetery in D'Iberville.
The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
Ivory Gray
Funeral: 1 p.m. Saturday at Center Hill Baptist Church in Carthage.
GULFPORT - Mr. Ivory Gray, 59, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in Gulfport.
Mr. Gray was a native of Carthage and was a resident of Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ossie Gray; his mother, Arlester Gray; and two brothers, Austin Earl Gray and James Douglas Gray.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharlonda Gray of Gulfport; two brothers, Willie Earl Gray and Willis Gray of Carthage; four sisters, Etta Ray Brown of Gulfport, Racheal Seymour of Milwaukee, Kathleen Hewes of Carthage and Queen Harris of Memphis.
A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Center Hill Baptist Church in Carthage where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Center Hill Cemetery. Hartwell's Christian Mortuary in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
Magrie Mae Howsey
EL PASO, Mississippi, and had been a resident of El Paso, Louisiana, and had been a resident of Biloxi for the past 30 years. She and her husband were co-founders of Amos Air Conditioning of Biloxi. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Biloxi.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edmaze Mallett Leger; a son, Chuckie Monday; a daughter, Charlotte Leger; and a stepdaughter, Dora Leger.
Survivors include her husband, Amos Leger Sr. of Biloxi; her father, Alva Leger of Welsh, Florida, and Candy Giles of Oklahoma; a son, John Leger of Biloxi; seven stepdaughters, Mary Jane Leger of Bay St. Louis, Judy Leger and Shirley Leger, both of Baytown, Texas, Dorothy Ardoin and Doris Beadle, both of Lake Charles, LA, Loretta O'Keefe of Virginia Beach, VA, and Janet Spell of Lake Charles, LA; three stepsons, Amos Leger Jr., Randy Leger and Keith Leger, all of Biloxi; 41 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2000, from 12 noon until 10 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 8 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. On Saturday, May 6, 2000, there will be a 1 p.m. chapel service at the funeral home where friends may call from 8 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.
