Services were held Monday, June 2, 2003, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home for Myrtle B. Branch, 96, of Columbia, who died May 31, 2003, at The Myrtles Nursing Home.
Burial was in Hurricane Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Branch was a housewife and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delos Branch; five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Randall of Columbia; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
SAMUEL KURMISE CLARK
HATTIESBURG
Services were held Monday, June 9, 2003, at Temple Baptist Church East Campus for Samuel Kurmise Clark, 71, of Hattiesburg, who died June at Forrest General Hospital.
Rev. Nathan Barber, Rev. Ken Hopkins, and Rev. Doug Benedict officiated. Interment was in Highland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were clarkd Lowery, Tommy Clark, James Earl Clark, Bobby Browning, Brian Page, Kenny Clark, Roy Sanford, Tony Sanford, Kevin Sanford, and Mike Clark.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the George Taylor Sunday School Class and members of the Wednesday Morning Coffee Club.
Born in Covington County, Mr. Clark was a longtime resident of Hattiesburg where he retired as service manager after 32 years with Exxon. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church East Campus where he was active in the Senior Adult Choir.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Clark of Hattiesburg; three sons, Art Clark of Hattiesburg, Charlie Clark of Brookhaven, and Steve Clark of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Emily Sanford of Petal; a step-daughter, jackie Page of Hattiesburg; three sisters, Doris Shellarbarger of Flowermound, New York; and six sisters, Dorothy Drugan, Sarah Garner, Anita Fortner, Doshie Hathorn, and Angelia Jackson, all of Hattiesburg, and Betsy Barnes of Jackson.
Hall’s-Fairley Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
MARY L. GARNER
HATTIESBURG
Services were held Friday, June 6, 2003, at Whitesand Baptist Church for Mary Lou Garner, 90, of Hattiesburg, who died June 4 at Bedford Nursing Home.
Burial was in Whitesand Cemetery.
Mrs. Garner owned and operated Raybon-Garner Store for over 20 years and was a member of Whitesand Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Calvin Garner and Billy Garner, both of Prentiss, and Gary Garner of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Maude Kelly Raybon of Brandon and Mildred Raybon of Prentiss; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

CECIL L. HARRIS, JR.
HATTIESBURG
Services were held Friday, June 6, 2003, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Cecil L. Harris, Jr., 48, of Hattiesburg, who died June 4 at Wesley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Father George Murphy officiated. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Hattiesburg, Mr. Harris was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a freelance artist for 28 years, an avid member of the Hattiesburg Star Trek Starship Federation Club, and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother, Helen Ruth Harris of Hattiesburg; and a sister, Tammy Harris Dupre of Mandeville, La.
Moore Funeral Home of Hattiesburg was in charge of arrangements.
BERTHA HICKMAN
WIGGINS
Services were held Friday, June 6, 2003, at Moore Funeral Home for Bertha Hickman, 87, of Wiggins, who died June 3 in Hattiesburg.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Hickman retired as office manager from the Wiggins’ office of ASCS. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Hickman of Loganville, Ga.; a daughter, Ella Sue Sheets of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
Moore Funeral Home of Wiggins was in charge of arrangements.

ELLISVILLE
Graveside services were held Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Shady Grove Cemetery for Frank Holifield, 71, of Ellisville, who died June 2 at South Central Regional Medical Center.
Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery in Jones County.
Mr. Holifield retired from Howard Transportation and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ava Edwards Holifield; two daughters, Susie Holifield of Hattiesburg and Frances Holifield of Denver; and a sister, Carolyn Holifield Mize of Laurel.
Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel was in charge of arrangements.

HATTIESBURG
Services were held Friday, June 6, 2003, at Zion chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church for George Robert Johnson, 60, of Hattiesburg, who died May 30 at Forrest General Hospital.
Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Johnson of Hattiesburg; three sons, Kenny Johnson and Gary Johnson, both of Hattiesburg, and Eugene Johnson of Houston; two brothers, L. V. Johnson and Marcie Johnson, both of Hattiesburg; and seven grandchildren.
Century Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Services were held Friday, June 6, 2003, at Jones Funeral Home for Herman Jackson Jordan, 89, of Ellisville, who died June 2 at Shady Oaks Personal Care Home in Carriere.
Burial was in Ellisville Cemetery.
Mr. Jordan was owner and operator of Jordan’s Grocery Store and a member of Ellisville Tula Rosa Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Verl Jordan of Carriere; a son, Herman Larry Jordan of Carriere; two sisters, Mavis Luby of Bedford, Va., and Veva Jewel Parker of Laurel; three sisters, Vera Wade and Agnes Rustin of Laurel and Geraldine Bullock of Natchez; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
