Ralph W. Block
OCEAN SPRINGS - Ralph W. Block, 67, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Block was born in Chicago and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1954. He was an Air Force veteran and member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Metro Church of the Nazarene in Gautier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Jane Block; and a stepson, Russell Keith.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn L. Block of Ocean Springs; three daughters, Lori Thompson of Ocean Springs, and Linda Gross of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sons, Ted Reeves of Dallas, and Tim Reeves of Fort Myers; his mother, Annie Lee Reeves of Vadalia, Ga.; a brother, Howard Reeves of West Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes where friends may call one hour before service time. A committal service will be Friday at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Dan Coy Harbison Sr.
PASCAGOULA - Dan Coy Harbison Sr., 75, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Pascagoula.
Mr. Harbison was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Yazoo City and had been a resident of Pascagoula since 1952. He was a retired HVAC designer with Ingalls Shipbuilding and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Third Army, Seventh Armored Division.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Hagewood Harbison; his parents, Ellis R. Harbison and Lula Martin Harbison; a son, John Richard Harbison; three brothers, L.R. Harbison, J.B. Harbison, and D.R. Harbison; and three sisters, Edna H. Godwin, Arlynne H. Garraway and Mary Lou Harbison.
Survivors include five sons, Dan C. Harbison Jr., of New Orleans, Don W. Harbison of Pascagoula, Charles Harbison of Gautier, David Lee Harbison and Michael Glenn Harbison both of Moss Point; five daughters, LuAnne Graybill of Camas, Wash., Jeanne Thomas of Sandy Hook, Sandy Harbison Lindsey of Sumrall, Susan H. Ros of Pascagoula, and Kaye Truitt of Columbus; two sisters, Doris H. Andrews of Columbia and Audrey H. Breland of Pascagoula; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A service will be at 2 p.m. today at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula.
Earl T. Spitzer
LUMBERTON - Earl T. Spitzer, 68, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, in Wiggins.
Mr. Spitzer was a lumberyard supervisor and was a member of North West Christian Center.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Spitzer of Lumberton; two daughters, Teresa Dotts of Hattiesburg and Ruby Poulus of Biloxi; three sons, Edward Hess of Hattiesburg, Jimmie Davis of Biloxi, and Timothy Davis of Corpus Christi, Iowa; two sisters, Joan Goulet of Sarasota, Fla., and Jeri Roberts of Corpus Christi; and seven grandchidlren.
Services will be held at a later date. Moore Funeral Service in Wiggins is in charge of arrangements.
Viola Voncile Taylor
LUCEDALE - Viola Voncile Taylor, 65, of 25100 Polk Town Road, Harleston Community, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in Pascagoula.
Mrs. Taylor was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Harleston and was a member of the First Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleophus C. Taylor; a daughter, Sheila C. James; her mother, Lucille Fairley; and her father and stepmother, Clayborn and Idella James.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Dr. C.V. Taylor Sr. of Three Rivers, Althre James of Jorance, Calif.; a stepson, Jimmy Taylor of Harleston; a daughter, Frankie Fairley of Harleston; and a godson, Thaddeus Fairley of Pascagoula.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Harleston where friends may call one hour before service time. Burial will be in the Three Rivers Community Cemetery. Dickey Bros.-Chambers Bros. Funeral Services of Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
V.E. Malpass
V.E. "Ed" Malpass, 82, of Clinton, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Clinton of coronary heart disease.
Mr. Malpass was a native of Biloxi and a former resident of Green wood and Jackson. He had been a resident of Clinton for seven years. He was a retired funeral director, having worked in Green wood and Lexington. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church where he was a former usher. He was a Mason, a member of the Museum Lodge, and a Shriner, a member of Wahabi Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Stinger Malpass of Clinton; a son, Mel Malpass of Clinton; a brother, Frank J. Malpass of Biloxi; five grandchilden; and two great-grandchildren.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Jackson where friends may call from noon until service time. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
The family prefers memorials to the Building Fund, Broadmoor Baptist Church.
