Captain Manley C. Cospelich
Captain Manley Charles Cospelich, 88, of Mississippi City. He also captained the charter boat, MANJOANN, from 1951 until 1993. Capt. Cospelich received numerous commendations from the U.S. Coast Guard for his rescue of persons and property during his many years as a charter boat captain. He also served as King Neptune of the annual Texas, Mrs. Hugh (Rose) Lucy of Long Beach, and Mrs. Harold (Ella) Lenaz of Long Beach; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also, a special friend, Marie Erhard; and caregivers, Charlotte Reeves, Isabella Scott and Shirley Ladner.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 9 at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday going past the Gulfport Charter Boat Harbor to St. James Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

William T. Hughes Sr.
William Thomas Hughes Sr., 67, of Gulfport died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, in Biloxi.
Mr. Hughes had been a life long resident of Gulfport and was retired from the U.S. Air Force having served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Mississippi Power Co.
Survivors include her daughter, Sory Shearer Yager of Bay St. Louis; three grandchildren, Kathryn Coffman of Montgomery, Ala., Dale Smith of San Diego, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Coffman and Ben Coffman.
Alma G. Hill
GULFPORT - Mrs. Alma G. Hill, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Hill was born Nov. 18, 1906, in Woolmarket and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast all of her life. She was a long time member of the Broadmoor Baptist Church in Gulfport and had taught Sunday school at the church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis W. Hill.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Carlie Hill of Jackson; a brother, William Woods and Sessions Williams; her husband, Elmer Shelby; a son, Elmer Earl Shelby; and a brother, Julius Williams.
Survivors include two sons, Delmer Shelby of Leakesville and David Dodd of Los Angeles; five daughters, Elma Jean Watson, Barbara Shelby, and Alma "Pat" Stapleton, all of Gulfport, Thelma Kyles of Chicago, and Dorothy Dobbard of Pasadena, Calif., and Michael Gordon Geiger of Terrytown, La.; a daughter, Rachel Geiger Benoist of Crystal River, Fla.; a brother, Monroe Harrell of Forkville; three sisters, Bessie Lee Chambers of Meridian, Lerliene Dow of Forest, and Addie McMurray of Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Riemann Funeral Home chapel in Bay St. Louis where friends mau call two hours before service time. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Bay St. Louis.
Mary Ann H. Martin
BAY ST. LOUIS - Mary Ann Hotard Martin, 55, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, on Bay St. Louis.
Mrs. Martin was a native of Monroe, La. She was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis and VFW Post No. 6285 Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney H. Martin; and her mother, Hazel Futch Thompson.
Survivors include two sons, Jesse M. Trim of Monroe and Alton J. Hotard of Baton Rouge, La.; five daughters, Mary Lee Grice and Batricia Ann Tarver, both of Bay St. Louis, Deborah Diane Freeman of Chaudrant, La., Tammy Marie Martin of Bernice, La., and Angel Hotard of Lakeshore; her father, E.W. Futch of Houston; a sister, Norma Futch Baker of Columbia, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be private. Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis is in charge of arrangements.

Elam Chance
POPLARVILLE - Mr. Elam Chance, 67, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, in Biloxi.
Arrangements are incomplete at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport.
Joyce C. Thames
POPLARVILLE - Mrs. Joyce Crosby Thames, 71, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, in Poplarville.
Mrs. Thames was the retired owner of Poplarville Auto Parts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Thames.
Survivors include a son, Charles Thames; two daughters, Patti Thames and Rhonda Hariel, all of Poplarville; four sisters, Charlene Lamberson, Pat Bihm, and Jackie Daniel, all of Seminary, and Eleanor Graham of Jackson; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at White Funeral Home in Poplarville. A service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with burial in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Poplarville.
James H. Martin
LUCEDALE - James H. "Jimmy" Martin, 53, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, in Biloxi.
Mr. Martin was a native of Columbia and was a long time resident of Lucedale. He was an electrician and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Nita Turnage Martin of Lucedale; a daughter, Lanita Martin of Mobile; his mother, Ruby Martin of Columbia; a sister, Kathy Hammond of Hattiesburg; and two brothers, Larry Martin of Eureka, Mo., and Glen Martin of Canada.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Mary D. Appleby
Mary Dudley Appleby, 81, of Fort Worth, N.Y., and Addie B. Kirkland, Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Myrtis Dickerson, Delores Barnes and Christine Clemons, all of Gulfport; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 257 Carver Avenue in Philadelphia with burial in Hopewell Cemetery in Philadelphia. Latimer Metropolitan Funeral Home in Philadelphia is in charge of out-of-town arrangements. J.T. Hall Funeral Home in Gulfport is in charge of local arrangements.
Betty H. Foles
Betty Herrin Foles, 87, of Hattiesburg died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, in Hattiesburg.
Mrs. Foles was a native of Sumrall and a former resident of Gulfport. She had lived in Hattiesburg for the past three years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Lyman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Foles.
Survivors include a daughter, Earline Thronson of Picayune; three sons, Shelby Foles of Marrow, Ga., Shelton Foles of Richton, and Cliff Foles of Saucier; a sister, Ada Mae Morris of Petal; two brothers, Shirley Herrin of Hattiesburg and Nelson Lott of Gulfport; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with burial in Lott Cemetery in Lamar County.
Mitchell Magee
Mr. Mitchell Magee, 74, of 503 Lindsey Street, Bogalusa, La., died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, in Bogalusa.
Mr. Magee was a native of Tylertown. He was a member of Sweet Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Bogalusa where he was a senior usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Magee and Wilkie Magee; and five brothers, Wallace Magee, Clarence Magee, James Magee, George Wilton Magee, and Ronald Magee.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Magee of Bogalusa; a daughter, Avalou Magee of Baton Rouge, La.; a son, Raymond Magee of Bogalusa; three sisters, Augustine Magee of Biloxi, Elvalene Williams of McComb, and Clara Mae Smith of Grand Rapids, Mich.; eight brothers, the Rev. Arcell Magee and Louis Magee, both of Biloxi, T.C. Magee and John Earl Magee, both of Tylertown, Percy Magee of Flint, Mich., Robert James Magee of Pontiac, Mich., S.J. Magee and Charles E. Magee, both of St. Paul, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Bogalusa. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sweet Beulah Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Dillion Cemetery in Tylertown. Richmond Funeral Home in Biloxi is in charge of local arrangements.
Mattie E. O'Gwynn
Mrs. Mattie E. O'Gwynn, 88, of Purvis died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, in Hattiesburg following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. O'Gwynn was a native of Opp, Ala. She was a homemaker and a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie O'Gwynn.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Alma Stuart of Gulfport and Bessie Tidwell of Lumberton; and a number of step-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at Moore Funeral Home in Purvis. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Coaltown Cemetery.
