Jeff Walden Evans

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Riemann Funeral Home Chapel, 25th Avenue in Gulfport.

GULFPORT - Jeff Walden Evans, 82, died Monday, April 20, 1998, in Biloxi.

Mr. Evans was a native of Handsboro. He was commissioned as chief warrant officer four in the Air Force and served during World War II. He was elected to the Miss. House of Representatives for four years, 1964-65 session and introuduced a resolution to recognize the volunteers of the Miss. Deep Sea Fishing rodeo. Mr. Evans also introduced a bill to request a feasibility study for a coliseum in South Calif., for 30 years, where he was employed as an Equal Employment Specialist for the State of Tennessee Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.

Lockett-Williams' Mortuary in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Mae Cooper Floyd

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Pascagoula.

PASCAGOULA - Helen Mae Cooper Floyd, 76, died Monday, April 20, 1998, in Pascagoula.

Mrs. Floyd, born Jan. 30, 1922, in Mayport, Fla., was an award-winning columnist for the Ocean Beach Reporter in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., was a member of Mayport Presbyterian Church, and a 1945 graduate of Florida Folklore Society, Save American's Seafood Industry, Beaches Area Historical Society and the Minorican Society.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Martin Cooper Sr.; and a sister, Susan Cooper Parker.

Survivors include her husband, Captain Hilton M. Floyd Sr. of Pascagoula; four daughters, Elena May of Moss Point, Penny King of Ocean Springs, Beth Gammill of Pascagoula and Tamara Floyd of Clark, Texas - Mrs. Sammie Lou Fuller, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 1998, at her home in Del Valle after a courageous battle with lung disease.

She was born January 25, 1933, in Weathersby, Miss. Sammie's parents were William Morris May and Leona Thames. Prior to his death in 1984, Sammie was happily married to her husband of 33 years, Floyd James Fuller.

Sammie was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill and Jack; sisters, Estelle and Margie; and her infant son, Wallace Holley.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Flora Jane and Ramiro "Tom" Alaniz of Del Valle, Texas, and Ben and Christie Fuller of Austin, Texas; Jason, Jeremy, and Justin Horst, Barksdale AFB; Sara Alaniz of Del Valle; Sadie, Amber, and Cody Bradshaw of Del Valle; and Great-Grandson, Dakota Malagarie, Ocean Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply appreciative of the comfort, prayers and supportive care she received from the caring ICU nursing staffs at Brackenridge and South Austin Hospitals, South Austin's Step-down nursing and respiratory therapists, and special thanks to Dr. James Boysen and Dr. Wallis for never giving up on her.

A memorial service will be held Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Onion Creek Baptist Church, South Hwy. 183 with Rev. Ted Bosworth and Rev. Maurice Walker officiating.

Ms. Fuller will lie in state at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs on Friday, April 24, 1998, with visitation from 6 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Vancleave First Baptist Church, Vancleave, Miss., on Saturday, April 25, 1998, at 10 a.m. Interment in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Ocean Springs, Texas 78749.

Cecilia Dale Graham

Funeral services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Holder-Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Moss Point.

PASCAGOULA - Cecilia Dale Graham, 60, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, in Pascagoula.

Mrs. Graham was born March 9, 1938, in Ellenton, Ga. She was employed as a hairdresser and was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Novella F. Robinson.

Survivors include her father, G.A. Robinson of Ellenton; a son, Garry Graham; two daughters, Pam Clark and Tami McQueen, all of Escatawpa; two sisters, Betty Canady of Valdosta, Ga.,and Allie Jean Rigsby of Albany, Ga.; a brother, J.A. Robinson of Ellenton; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point. A service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, with graveside services to follow at 2 p.m. in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Waynesboro.

Beulah Gray

GULFPORT - Beulah Gray, 75, died Monday, April 20, 1998, in Gulfport.

Arrangements are incomplete at Richmond Funeral Home in Gulfport.

Sally Mae Greer

Funeral services: Graveside at 1 p.m. Thursday in Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruth, Miss.

PASS CHRISTIAN - Sally Mae Greer, 84, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, in Pass Christian.

Mrs. Greer was born Nov. 15, 1913, in Walthall County and was a former resident of Jayess and McComb. She was a retired cashier with Vaccarella Grocery of McComb and was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church in Ruth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Belle Rushing Crawford; her husband, Homer Greer; a son, H.T. Greer; two sisters, Fannie Nordan and Avis Nordan; and a brother, Elisha Crawford.

Survivors include a sister, Carrie Brister of Jayess; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Union Primitive Baptist Church, with graveside services at 1 p.m. in the church cemetery. Hartman Funeral Home in McComb is in charge of arrangements.

John R. Henderson Jr.

Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Main Chapel on Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO - Mr. John R. Henderson Jr., 66, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, in San Antonio.

Mr. Henderson was born Aug. 17, 1931 in Nashville, where he attended public school. At the age of 17, he volunteered for the military service and served 21 years in the Army and retired with an honorable discharge as SSGT.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Jewel Henderson of San Antonio; three daughters, Sharon C. Green , Barbara A. Medlock and Joanie R. Henderson, all of Austin; a brother, Edward Henderson of Biloxi; and four grandchildren.

A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Main Chapel on Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, where friends may call an hour before service time. Burial will follow. Sutton and Sutton Funeral Home, 320 S.W.W. White Road, San Antonio and Richmond Funeral Home in Biloxi are in charge of arrangements.

Taffee Lamar Hill

GULFPORT - Taffee Lamar Hill, 26, died Monday, April 20, 1998, in Gulfport.

Jacqueline Hinton

BILOXI - Jacqueline Hinton, age unavailable, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, in Biloxi.

Annie Mae Holmes

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Basin, Miss.

LUCEDALE - Annie Mae Holmes, 67, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, in Pascagoula.

Mrs. Holmes was a native and lifelong resident of Lucedale. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Basin, where she was a member of the finance committee, choir and Board of Trustees. Mrs. Holmes was a teacher for over 20 years with head start and was a volunteer as a poll worker for voting and with fundraisers for headstart and the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Holmes; her parents, Ollie Lawrence and Laura Virginia Lawrence; a sister, Juanita Epps; and three brothers, E.V. Lawrence, Jack Lawrence and Russel Lawrence.

Survivors include four sons, Rev. Jackie Holmes of Gautier, Jerry Holmes of Memphis, Michael Holmes of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Christopher Holmes of Lucedale; a daughter, Barbara Winborn of Lucedale; three sisters, Texas.

Private services will be held. Burial at sea to follow. Munford Funeral Home in Millington, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.

The family prefers memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fund.

Vernon E. Pruitt

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi.

BILOXI - Vernon E. Pruitt, 71, of Biloxi died Sunday, April 19, 1998, in Biloxi.

Mr. Pruitt retired from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service from 1948-1970. He was a past Commander at D.A.V. Post 34 in Biloxi and graduated from Police Officers Training Academy in Jackson, Miss., and Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held tonight, April 22, 1998, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. A service will be held Thursday, April 23, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial in Crestlawn Cemetery.

George Craig Spears Sr.

Funeral services: 2 p.m. today at St. Paul Baptist Church in Lyman.

GULFPORT - George Craig Spears Sr., 57, of 16089 South Swan Road in Gulfport, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, in Gulfport.

Best known to family and friends as "Shane" or "Captain George", he was born May 25, 1940, in Meridian "Shuttletown", Miss. He came to Gulfport "Soria City" at the age of 15 and attended Thirty-Third Avenue High School. He worked part time on the ports of Gulfport "Sealand Perminal Corporation St. Peter By the Sea" for many years. Mr. Spears was employed at B-Line Fabrication Company for 15 years. He was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Lyman, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Albert Craig Spears; his stepfather, Mr. David G. Bender; and two uncles, Mr. Johnny B. Spears and Mr. J.E. Spears.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Artis L. Spears of Lyman; a son, George Craig Spears Jr.; six stepdaughters, Deborah Clark, Joyce Watts, Carol Williams, Dywana Coleman, Tina Curry and Etta Brown; two stepsons, Norman Williams Jr. and Clarence Brown; his mother, Mrs. Mahalia A. Bender; a sister, Ms. Lucille (Jerry) Crenshaw, all of Gulfport; a brother, Mr. Glasco (Tammy) Bender of Lynnwood, Indiana and Mrs. Mariah Arizona; an uncle, Mr. Randolph (Madge) Spears of Detroit, Mi.; a godsister, Sylvia Brown of Gulfport; a grandchild; 20 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and four best friends, Antonio Deramus, James Lewis, Ronald Rigsby and Earnest Huddleston.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening, April 21, at George and Lillian Lockett Memorial Chapel in Gulfport. A service will be held today, April 22, 1998, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church in Lyman, where friends may call an hour before service time. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Garden in Gulfport.

Gloria Jean Thomas

Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday at Victory Temple Worship Center in Gulfport.

GULFPORT - Gloria Jean Clark Thomas, 35, died Tuesday, April 14, 1998, in Gulfport.

Mrs. Thomas was a native and lifelong resident of Gulfport. She graduated from Gulfport High School in 1981. She was a member of Victory Temple Worship Center in Gulfport and was employed with Nurse Management Incorporated.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Susie Mae Clark; and a sister, Jimmie Lee Clark.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Louis Thomas; a son, John Allen Clark; a daughter, Susie Marie Thomas; her father, Jimmy Clark; six brothers, Robert Earl Bell, Joseph Bell, Walter Clark, Tony Clark, Raymond Clark and Larry Clark; and five sisters, Mae Pruitt, Irene Bell, Annie Magee, Willie Mae Polk and Mary Clark, all of Gulfport.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at George and Lillian Lockett Memorial Chapel in Gulfport. A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Victory Temple Worship Center, with burial in Pine Ridge Garden in Gulfport. Lockett-Williams' Mortuary in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
