Bernadine Brister
Services for Mrs. Bernadine Brister, 79, of Detroit were held Sept. 20 at 11:30 a.m. at Joseph Campau Avenue Church of God in Detroit.
Mrs. Brister, a retired city employee, died Sept. 15, 2003 in Detroit. She was a native of Attala County, a member of Eastside Church of God in Detroit, McCellan Community Workers Block Club, SEIU and City Worker Club.
Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit handled by the House of Johnson Funeral Home of Detroit and Winters Funeral Home of Kosciusko.
Pallbearers were Johnnie Winston, George Stuckey, Edward Brister, Christian Winston, Jerry Humphrey and Robert Banks.
Nelvia Bunch
Services for Miss Nelvia Bunch, 84, of McAdams were held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Coleman Cemetery in McAdams.
Miss Bunch, a retired telephone operator with BellSouth, died Sept. 18, 2003 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by three sisters, Corrie Bunch of McAdams, Lettie Peoples of Madden and Nancy Gomillion of Carthage; numerous nieces and nephews.
Rev. Ron Gomillion and Rev. Dan West officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Ralph Hunt, Everette Perry, Curtis Poole, Ben Poole, Roger Poole and Allen Johnson.
Walter Lee Ellis IV
Services for Walter Lee Ellis IV, 40, of Miami, Fla., were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Parkway Cemetery.
Ellis, a former resident of Kosciusko, died Sept. 21, 2003 in Miami. He was a yard landscaper.
He is survived by a son, Cody Ellis of Crystal Springs; his parents, Newt and Lucretia Graham Love of Kosciusko; two sisters, Michaela Green e of Kosciusko and Claudia Gray of Pearl.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Lee Ellis III.
Rev. James Salter officiated.
Pallbearers were Mic Lawrence, Joey Regan, Jonathan Regan, Art Cook Jr., James Green e and Billy Wilson.
Raymond Girth Hughes
Graveside services for Raymond Girth Hughes, 54, of Kosciusko were held Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at Edgefield Cemetery at McCool.
Hughes, an electrician, died Sept. 23, 2003 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Attala County.
He is survived by his mother, Onnie Viola Hughes of Green ville; a son, Joseph Wade Hughes of Hollandale; four sisters, Nancy Shaw, Patricia Newsome, Katherine McDuff of Green ville and Hazel McClean of Panama City, Fla.; three brothers, Tommy Hughes of Green ville, Curtis Felton Hughes and Charles William Hughes of Panama City, Fla.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Christine smith.
Rev. James Burrell officiated with Culpepper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Velma Blackstock Farrell
Graveside services for Mrs. Velma Blackstock Farrell, 85, of Huntsville, Ala., formerly of Kosciusko, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Parkway Cemetery.
Mrs. Farrell, retired from store merchandising, died Sept. 25, 2003 at Cogburn Nursing Home in Huntsville.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Simmons and Beverly Vickery of Huntsville, Ala.; James M. Blackstock of Sumter, S.C., and Larry K. Blackstock of Overland Park, Kan.; a sister, Carolyn Charley of Sherman, Thompson and Paula Gunner of Stewart; brothers, Bill Leach of Stewart, Robert Leach, Scott Leach of Poplar Creek and David Leach of Kosciusko; his father, Denver Leach of Poplar Creek; his grandmother, Olene Hunt of Poplar Creek; a great-uncle, who raised him, Henry Price , James "Dooby" Palmertree and Bennie Park.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Leach.
Oliver Funeral Home of Winona handled arrangements.
Chester L. Lawrence
Services for Chester L. Lawrence, 73, of Kosciusko were held Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Nile Church of Christ cemetery.
Lawrence, a welder-maintenance employee, died Sept. 22, 2003 at Hospice in His Hands. He was a lifelong resident of the Nile Community. He was employed for 20 years by Yazoo Mower.
He is survived by a daughter, Norma Lawrence and a son, Lee Lawrence, both of Kosciusko; four sisters, Helen Gilbert of Kosciusko, Lois Blocker of Byram, Jennie Diamond of Hollandale and Weda Ramage of West; three grandchildren.
Rev. Stacy Dunn and Danny Tyler.
Honorary pallbearers were Doyle Heffner and Terry Daugherty.
Memorials may be made to the Nile Church of Christ Cemetery Fund.
Joe Nance
Graveside services for Joe Nance, 62, of Ethel were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Parkway Cemetery.
Nance, a retired pipeline operator, died Sept. 25, 2003 at his residence. He was a member of Ethel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Nance of Ethel; a daughter, Jennifer Blount of West; a son, James G. Nance of Ethel; a sister, Judy McCool of Vicksburg; grandchildren, D.J. Blount, Jesse and Joshua Nance.
Officiating minister was Rev. Chester Carlisle.
Serving as pallbearers were Ted Burns, Hill Childs, Scott Burns, Jason Simmons, Frank Crosby and Tommy Childs.
Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Edgefield Baptist Church.
Emily Katherine Bell Nabors
Services for Mrs. Emily Katherine Bell Nabors, 89, of Kosciusko were held Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church with burial in Marvin Chapel Cemetery in Attala County.
Mrs. Nabors died Sept. 21, 2003 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a retired Civil Service employee working on U. S. Air Force bases. She was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hugh Nabors.
She is survived by a son, Hugh Stanley Nabors of Kosciusko; a grandson, Dwayne Nabors of Kosciusko; two great-grandchildren, Colby and Kyle Nabors of Kosciusko; niece, Dorothy Agent of Memphis; nephew, Hubert Bell of Kosciusko.
Pallbearers were Otis Shelley, Owen Olmstead, Butch Barnett, Kevin Barnett, Trevor Edwards and Ralph Miller.
Honorary pallbearers were Gene Burden, Trent Dismuke, Darrell Agent, Lamar Sims, Lennie Edwards and Gene Dismuke.
Rev. C. J. Caufield and Rev. Thomas Wicker officiated.
