Bordell Hutcheson
BOONEVILLE - Bordell Hutcheson, 78, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Reginald P. White Nursing Facility in Meridian. He was born May 1, 1924, in Prentiss County to Hoze and Deller Whitehead Hutcheson. He was a farmer and a Baptist. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Wells and Bro. James Mooney officiating. Burial will be in Ingram Cemetery near Baldwyn.
Survivors include a son, Boyce Hutcheson and wife, Carolyn, of Booneville; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Hutcheson, in 1983; a daughter, Joyce Alvarez; a son, Wayne Hutcheson; a grandson, Ken Hutcheson; three brothers; and eight sisters.
Visitation will continue at the funeral home until service time today.
Pearl Tate
BECKER - Pearl V. Tate, 67, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at her home in Becker after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Ohio; three daughters, Brenda Forrester of Macon, Frances Bhairo of New Orleans and Shelia Farris of Enterprise, Ala.; three brothers, Thomas Strevel of Aberdeen, and George and Raymond Wren, both of Memphis; two sisters, Sammie Nalley of Hampshire, Ill., and Mary Elizabeth Garcia of Memphis; 15 grandchildren, Jon Patterson, Nikki and Patrick Forrester, Anthony Bhairo, Devin and Scottie Tate, Leasha Tate, Bridget Camp, Derrick Munson, Tyler Farris, Candice and Shane Tate, Jessica Tate, and Destiny and Hannah Tate.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Lee; a brother, Gene Strevel; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Tate.
Pallbearers will be Paul Strevel, James Cason, Justin Bird, Joe Tubb, Barry Strevel and Leon Phillips.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today and until service time Thursday.
Kate Gardner
MATHISTON - Kate Clegg Gardner, 84, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at her home in Mathiston. She was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Mathiston. She was a retired postal worker.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Spring Valley Cemetery with the Rev. John Gardner McComb and husband, William Dwight McComb, of Aberdeen; a son, Gary Parker Woods and wife, Ora Mae, of Sulligent, Ala.; a brother, Rudolph Stuckey and wife, Nadine, of Sulligent; a sister, Evelyn Davis and hsuband, Floyd, of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, Amy Taylor and husband, Jerry Don, of Starkville, Dr. Wesley Woods and Michael Woods, both of Germany; two great-grandchildren, J.D. Taylor and Laura Beth Taylor, both of Starkville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Clarence Woods; a son, Major Gary Kane Woods; three brothers, Rufus Stuckey, Everette Stuckey and Wilson Stuckey; and a sister, Exie Gilbert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sulligent First Baptist Church Van Fund or Music Department.
Melvin D. Luker
ABERDEEN - Melvin D. Luker, 80, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at the North Texas; six daughters, Helen Lee, Wanda Schrock, Bonnie Owens and Judy Wise, all of Aberdeen, Nadin Posey of Houston, Texas; a sister, Lillian Mosley of Atmore, Ala.; three brothers, Oneal Luker of Mobile, Ala., James Thomas Luker of Atmore, Ala., and Freddie Luker of Rockford, Ill.; 42 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Billy Luker, Charles Luker, Phillip Luker, Joe Luker, Tim Luker, Edward Luker, Mike Luker and Chester Luker.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Edward Luker, Paul Luker, Jimmy Schrock and Wayne Luker.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Geraldine Webb
CHICAGO - Geraldine Webb, 57, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, in Chicago. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson Memorial Chapel.
Arthur McCoy
IUKA - Arthur McCoy, 93, died Friday, April 4, 2003, in Boise, Idaho. He was born May 17, 1910, near Iuka to Samuel and Jennie McCoy. He moved to Melba, Idaho, in his early adulthood. There, he worked for the Jensen Sheep Ranch, eventually becoming foreman. Later, he worked at Honstead Motors in Nampa, Idaho, where he learned auto body repair. In 1946 he moved to Corinth and eventually owned an auto body repair shop. In 1957 he returned to Nampa, where he attended the First Baptist Church of Nampa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching many sports.
A memorial service will be today at the First Baptist Church in Nampa, Idaho. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Chaney and husband, Clinton, of Nampa, Idaho; three grandchildren, Allen and Ben Chaney, both of Meridian, Idaho, and Janna Mitchell of Spokane, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, Marc and Paige Chaney.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Eva Lena "Evelyn" Skelton McCoy; three sisters, Dixie, Della and Hester; and five brothers, Alfred, George, J.B., David and Joe.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John Rather
HOLLY SPRINGS - John Edward Rather, 84, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto County in Southaven. He was born Aug. 26, 1918, in Memphis to Hugh H. Rather and Marie Butler Rather. He was a lifelong member and lay reader of Christ Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry and taught Sunday school for many years. He served as an alderman for the City of Holly Springs for 32 years. He established the City Beautiful Commission and served as chairman for many years. He was chairman of the board and CEO of the First State Bank for more than 60 years. He served on the Board of Trustees at Rust College and was awarded an honorary doctorate degree. He was a charter member of the Industrial Development Authority for Marshall County. He was a member of the Holly Springs Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was active in the Yocona Area Council of Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was a graduate of the University of Indianapolis, Ind.; his parents, C.D. Pulliam and Ruthie Pulliam of Prairie; three brothers, Charles Pulliam, Otis Pulliam and Frank Pulliam, all of Prairie; three sisters, Annie Pulliam Patterson of Prairie, Willie Mae Pulliam Townsend of Nettleton and Diane Jones of Okolona; five stepchildren; three grandchildren, Jada, Zipporah and Leah, all of Iowa, and Daisy Grimsley and Elizabeth Box, both of Exeter, Calif., Emmett Bailey of Water Valley and Arnel Bailey of Flint, Mich.; three grandchildren, Deborah Sanders and husband, Patrick, of New Albany, Kathleen Henson and husband, Ronnie, of Dumas, and Pamela Woodfin and husband, Paul, of Booneville; four great-grandchildren, Owen Sanders, Dylan Henson, Jagden Woodfin and Luke Woodfin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvie Earmon and Rebecca Louvina Brown Bailey; and 11 sisters and brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
Cratis O. Wood
FULTON - Cratis O. Wood, 80, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at his home. He was born June 17, 1922, in Itawamba County to General Allen Wood and Sarah Alice Thornton Wood. He was a construction worker and an employee of American Motors for 23 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He was a Baptist. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glyn Wiygul officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Jean Short and husband, Pat, of Fulton; a sister, Carolyn Underwood and husband, Ray, of Iuka; three brothers, Travis Wood and wife, Annie, of Riceville, Ga., Billy James Wood and wife, Beverly, of Kenosha, Wis., and Wayne Wood and wife, Maureen, of Fulton; three grandchildren, Christopher Short, Darcy Wilson and Tare Short; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Polly West.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tramel Wood, and a sister-in-law, Vona Mae Wood.
Pallbearers will be Gary Sullivan, Paul Gibbs, Johnny Crane, Mike Dulaney, Bobby Walker and Reggie Waddle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Russell, Jerry Bowen, D.W. Sheffield and David Dulaney.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Thursday.
Eva Counce
OKOLONA - Eva Counce, 80, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at her home. She was born April 24, 1922, in Okolona. She was retired from the welfare office after 35 years. She was a member of Carnation Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carnation Baptist Church in Okolona with Bro. Clinton Worthey and Curtis Keeton officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Counce and wife, Sarah, of Pontotoc, and Lowell Counce and wife, Audrey, of Charles City, Va.; a sister, Olivia Haguewood of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Bill Lowell of Bakersfield, South Carolina National Bank, where she worked for more than 45 years. She was a charter board member and former secretary/treasurer of the Chesterfield County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs (formerly the Chesterfield County Mental Retardation Board).
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Cheraw, S.C. Burial will be in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. Kiser Funeral Home of Cheraw is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Travis Adams Sr. of Cheraw, S.C.; a son, Travis "Brother" Adams Jr. of Cheraw; a daughter, Dana Miller and husband, Paul, of Tupelo; a brother, Bernard Hudson of Rockingham, N.C.; two sisters, Evelyn Hudson of Cheraw, S.C., and Lillian Stubbs of Bennettsville, S.C.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sulton Rogers
TAYLOR - Sulton Rogers, 80, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Price of Flint, Mich., Katie Rogers and Jackie Rogers, both of Syracuse, Calif.; five sons, Bobby Martin of Oxford, R.V. Rogers and Willie Rogers, both of Augusta, Ga., Roy Rogers of Atlanta, Ga., and Jimmy Rogers of Syracuse, Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. She was a native of Lee County. During World War II she worked at the Pentagon in Carter Riley and Meg Riley, both of Belden; a brother, Jerold Montgmery of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.W. and Gertrude Reese Montgomery; three brothers, Charles, Harold and Ralph Montgomery; and a sister, Nancy Montgomery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Riley, Patrick Riley, Tim Gwillim, Dewayne Daniels, Robert Post, Dr. Paul Crider, Ed Harrell and Jason Brown.

Amy Estes
COLUMBUS - Amy Lauren Tucker Estes, 32, died suddenly Sunday, April 6, 2003, at her home in Columbus. She was a native of Lee County and a member of the Verona United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Ron McDougal officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Anastasia Lauren Estes of Pensacola, Fla.; her mother, Peggy J. Tucker of Pensacola, Fla.; her father, James Larry Tucker of Saltillo; two sisters, Laina Fields of Sherman and Pamela Tucker of Arlington, Texas; her grandmother, Lorene Kryznowck of Smithville; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steve Fields, Mark Fields, B.J. Fields, Andy Torok, Matt Fields and David Estes.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
