Zetha 'Granny' Brown
Services for Zetha “Granny” Brown were held Friday, July 5, 2002, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of McClain-Hays Funeral Home. Dr. Wayne Hill officiated. Burial was in Center Hill Cemetery in Leake County.
Mrs. Brown, 86, died Tuesday, July 7 in Neshoba County General Hospital.
She was a native of Attala County, longtime resident of the Conway community in Leake County and a resident of Philadelphia in Neshoba County since 1984. She was a retired factory/restaurant worker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Mike and an infant daughter, Carol.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie L. Brown of Philadelphia; three sons, Johnny Brown of DeKalb, James Brown of Philadelphia, and Gerald Brown of Kosciusko; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Higginbotham and Elizabeth Collins, both of Carthage; one brother, Bernard Carroll of Morton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were John Trussell, Clay Brown, Kip Wilcher, Ben Carroll, Eddie Carroll and Billy Copeland.
Retha Ann Miller Havard
Services for Retha Ann Miller Havard were held Monday, July 8, 2002, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of McClain-Hays Funeral Home. The Rev. Henry Cupstid officiated. Burial was in Fellowship Cemetery.
Mrs. Havard, 36, died Thursday, July 4 in University of Ohio but lived most of her life in Philadelphia. She was a homemaker and member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, John Albert Miller.
Survivors include her husband, Lamar Havard of Hickory; one daughter, Kristi Havard of Hickory; one step-daughter, Amanda Kennedy of Puckett; one step-son, Christopher Havard of Polkville; her mother, Barbara Miller of Meridian; two sisters, Kelly Hall of Meridian and Barbara Fields of Philadelphia; one brother, Jerry Miller of Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Wayne Fields, Brian Glass, Jason Mayo, Jay Hall, Jonathan Scott Townsend and Billy Scott.
Lois Johnson
Services for Lois Johnson were held Friday, July 5 at 1 p.m. in Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Hampton officiated. Burial was in Donald Rest Cemetery under the direction of Latimer’s Metropolitan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Monday, July 1 in Rush Memorial Hospital in Meridian.
She was a member of Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as an usher until her illness. She was employed with Philadelphia High School for 17 years until her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Velma Brownlee of Champaign, Ill., Willie Mae McGruder of Jackson, Ga. and Patricia Hunt of Champaign, Ill.; two sons, Otis Johnson of Philadelphia and Finerst Johnson, Jr. of Haltom, Ohio, Dorothy O’Guinn of San Bernardino, Texas.
She was born and reared in Neshoba County and made her home in Philadelphia most of her life. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Marlene Therrell Collins of Cypress, Calif.; grandparents, Irene W. Pool of Columbus, J.M. and Arlele Blevins of Kaufman, Texas.
The military will serve as pallbearers.

Garris C. Richardson
Graveside services for Garris C. Richardson were held Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at 11 a.m. from Brewton Cemetery. The Rev. Eric Sizemore officiated J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Richardson, 96, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in Statesboro Nursing Home.
He was a member of Merigold Methodist Church in Merigold.
Survivors include his wife, Thyra Seawright Richardson of Claxton; one daughter, Thyra Simmons of Claxton; one grandson; one brother, Woodrow Richardson of Gautier; and several nieces and nephews.
Ida Bell Taylor
Services for Ida Bell Taylor were held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at 11 a.m. from Doty Springs Baptist Church. Burial was in Doty Springs Cemetery in Attala County. Jordan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Taylor, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001.
She was a member of the Doty Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois Slay of Raymond and Maurine Brown of Carthage; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lee Etta Ireland of Baltimore, Md. and May Bell Tuberville of Lexington; and two brothers, Linwood Steed and Silas Steed, both of Lexington.
