James M. Barrier, 60
James M. Barrier, 60, died Aug. 26, 2000, at his home in Bermuda Dunes, Calif., involved in the manufacturing of composite products for aircraft and rockets. He is survived by his wife Lucy of Bermuda Dunes; three stepchildren, Susan Porter and Brian Bailey in Grover Beach and Monte Sereno, Parker Cusick. He attended Flathead High School and graduated in 1957. After high school, he served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1961 as a F-86 fighter mechanic. He then moved to Butte where he started his career as an electrician with the I.B.E.W. It was in Butte that he met and married the love of his life, Linda Mae Crowley in 1963. The couple moved to Kalispell in 1964 to raise their family. In 1972, he was elected business agent for the Local 768. He held that position through 1976. He then continued his career as an electrician working on the Alaskan Pipeline. He then worked in Calif.; three daughters, Debbie Smithlin and husband, Tom, Tammy Gustafson and husband, Gary, and Cara Boka and husband, Patrick, all of Kalispell; his grandchildren, Thomas, Jenn and husband Sam, Dustin, Joey, Samantha, Robert, and Allison "McDuff"; three brothers, Gary Cusick and wife, Linda #2, of Los Angeles, Doug and his wife, Linda#3, and Greg and wife, Sue, all of Kalispell; two brothers-in law, Jack Crowley and wife, JoAnn, of Butte, and Jim Crowley and wife, Sandy, of Cloquet, Minn.; and all his nephews, nieces, uncles, and aunts. A memorial mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Victor Langhans as celebrant. The family suggests memorials be given in his name to St. Matthew's Catholic School, 602 S. Main, Kalispell, MT 59901. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.

Julia M. Freebury, 78
Julia M. Freebury, 78, a resident of Medford, Ore., passed away on Aug. 29, 2000, at a local hospital in Roseburg, Ore. She was born on Sept. 12, 1921, in Grandview, Wash., to John Henry and Margaret May Hale Conn. She moved with her family as a young child to Kalispell where she grew up and graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to Vernon Freebury on Nov. 15, 1952, in Kalispell. She was office manager for Hance Oil Company-Union Oil distributor in Stayton, Ore., from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s. They moved from Shelton, Wash., to Medford in 1994. She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Medford. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Freebury of Medford; son Dan and wife, Deb Freebury, of Winston, Ore.; sister Elsie Day of Fairbanks, Alaska; brother Don Conn of Colo., Jenniffer Freebury of Salem, Ore., Heather, Christopher and Samantha Freebury, all of Winston, Ore. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Lee Freebury on Oct. 7, 1991; brothers, Jimmy and Billy Conn; and sister, Frankie West. Funeral services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements have been entrusted to Taylor's Family Mortuary in Winston, Ore.

Donald Eugene Robinson, 68
Donald Eugene Robinson, 68, died Jan. 14, 2000, in Phoenix, from natural causes. He was born on July 31, 1931, to J.M. Sr. and Margaret Robinson. He attended school in Conrad. He went into the service from February 1951 through 1953, during the Korean War. On Aug. 22, 1970, he and Louise Lapp were married. He moved to Kalispell in 1970, and worked as a trucker for a mail contractor. In 1985, he and his wife moved to Phoenix, where he continued his trucking for the post office. Survivors are his wife Louise of Phoenix; stepchildren, Joyce and Richard Lapp of Kalispell, Gary Lapp of Bozeman, Nell Seifert of Cut Bank and Joyce Robinson of Kevin; three brothers, Everett of Hemet, Colo., to Cecil and Wava Overlease. She called Bigfork her home for the last 32 years. Of her many interests, which included gardening and horsemanship, she will mostly be remembered for her kind soul and generosity towards those in need. She was preceded in death by Carole Desmond, whom she referred to as "a friend so rare." Also preceding her in death were both parents; brothers, Virgil and Ed Overlease; and one stepson, Ross Kimball. She is survived by her loving husband, William Kimball of Bigfork; daughter, Melody MacLachlan of Sandpoint, Idaho; son, Monty Kimball of San Francisco; stepsons, Scott Kimball of Kirkland, Wash., Tom Kimball of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; sister, Lila Rahmoeller of Lakewood, Colo., Cecil Overlease Jr. of Fowler, Arizona, finally settling in the Yuma area for the winters. He loved the outdoors and loved to dance. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Baldwin of Kalispell; son Gary Baldwin and his wife, Flo, of Mead, Wash.; daughters, Faith Howard and husband, Bob, of Martin City and Dianne Murer and husband, Ted, of Kalispell; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be Friday at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the donor's choice. Buffalo Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma (Lockwood) McCarty
Thelma (Lockwood) McCarty, 82, of Helena, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Rocky Mountain Care Center following an extended illness.
Thelma was born on July 26, 1920, in Kalispell, to Margaret and Frank Logan. She attended school in Kalispell, graduating from Flathead County High School with the class of 1937.
She worked as a secretary in the county extension office in Kalispell until 1945 when she married Glenn Lockwood and moved to Helena where they had a daughter, Marsha and a son, Scott.
Glenn passed away in 1967. Thelma married Michael "Mick" McCarty in November of 1968. She was widowed once again with Mick's passing in April of 1998.
Thelma was a working mother and wife, retiring as manager of the office of the Montana Retail Association in 1983. She remained active in service organizations since her retirement 20 years ago. She served in several office capacities in the Soroptimist Heritage Club and the Community Home Care Association. She was an active and attending member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, serving on several committees.
A son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Dawn Lockwood of Helena; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Max Baumeister of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Jim Donovan of Kalispell; a sister-in-law, Adeline Logan of Kalispell; brother-in-law, Sam McCarty of Helena survive her. Thelma is also survived by her granddaughter, Julie Baumeister of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Sean and his wife, Roberta Lockwood, of Olathe, Kan.; step-grandchildren, Kim Leighton of Helena and Ryan Leighton of Boise, Idaho; three gorgeous granddaughters, Lauren, Avae and Piper Lockwood; several nieces and nephews; and former daughter-in-law and long-time friend, Carol Lockwood of Helena.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Thelma's life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Retz Funeral Home in Helena. There will be a reception at the family home at 423 Holter following the service.
The family suggests that those wishing to send memorials send them to the St. Paul's Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Soroptimist Club Scholarship Fund.
