Leon R. "Sting" Stingley

Leon R. "Sting" Stingley of Fort Peck died of natural causes on Wednesday, January 12, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow at age 72. Services will be at Bell Chapel in Glasgow at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dave Rogenes officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Peck Cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Leon was born on September 9, 1932 in Creighton, Nebraska, to Troy Stingley and Emma (Carson) Stingley. He lived in Nebraska until entering the service. Leon served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1962.
Leon married Ardella Kruckenberg on September 15, 1961 in Dickinson, North Dakota.
He lived in Ft. Randell, South Dakota, Kalispell, Lewistown, Yellowtail Dam, and in 1972 moved to Fort Peck, Montana. He was one of the first power plant operators at Yellowtail Dam. Sting was a power plant operator at the Fort Peck Dam until retiring in 1990. He was also a dispatcher for WAPA at Fort Peck. Sting was an active member of the NRA, and was well known for making custom hunting knives. He enjoyed hunting and working on guns.

Vivian E. Knapp

Vivian E. Knapp, 84 years, a homemaker, died Sunday, January 09, 2005 at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Malta Lutheran Church with interment in the Malta Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Vivian was born February 20, 1920 at Forks, Montana, the daughter of John Martin and Gemelia (Livedalen) Tollefson. She was raised and educated in the Forks Community and attended the Tollefson School. She married Lester Knapp on February 21, 1938 in Glasgow. They worked the family farm until 1942. While Lester was in WW II she lived in Saco. After his discharge they bought a farm north of the Sleeping Buffalo. They retired in 1975 moving to Malta. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, playing cards and baking.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Leanne Knapp of Culbertson; brother, Oliver Tollefson of Saco; grandchildren, Justin Knapp of Helena, Jon Knapp of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Matt Frye of Missoula, and Mike Frye of Moscow, Idaho; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester in 2001, her parents, five sisters and 3 brothers.
Clifford Irone Swanson

Clifford Irone Swanson of Glasgow died at age 83 on December 31 at Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow. Services will be Friday, January 7, at 2 p.m. with burial in Highland Cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Cliff was born on April 21, 1921 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to John Swanson and Matilda Nelson Swanson. He was raised there and then and then after school he entered the Army on September 8, 1942 and served during World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on February 9, 1946.
Cliff married Harriett Peterson on August 21, 1942 at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. In March of 1951 they moved to Glasgow where Cliff joined his brother Murray in running the H & S Surplus Store which later became Swanson's Furniture and Surplus. In 1962 they sold both businesses and started Swanson's Construction. He retired from the construction business in 1992.
In earlier years Cliff enjoyed bowling with his wife and friends. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Harriet passed away in April of 1995.
Survivors include sons David Swanson and his wife Jane of Billings, Montana, Chuck Swanson and his wife Debbie of Havre, Montana, a daughter Cheryl Swanson Elliot and her husband Chuck of Jackson, New Jersey, a brother Murray Swanson and his wife Pat of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, grandchildren; Ray Swanson, Toni Swanson, Steve and his wife Audrey Swanson, all of Billings, Jeannie Kelly and her husband Joe of Spanaway, Washington, Jennifer Hall and her husband Mark of Billings, and Karey Fox Bishop and her husband C.J. of Idaho, great grandchildren; Taitlynn Swanson, Ryan Swanson, Tynan Francis, Tevin Francis, Trenton Francis, Jalen Hall, Sydney Hall, Justin Kelly, and Kaden Bishop.
Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Harriett in 1995 and three brothers; Orville Swanson, John Swanson, and LeRoy Swanson.
Donald G. Clark
Donald G. Clark, age 71 passed away on Friday - October 22, 2004 from natural causes at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, Montana.There will be a wake held on Sunday - October 24, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at Oswego Community Hall in Oswego, Montana. Services are planned for Monday - October 25, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the Oswego Community Hall in Oswego, Montana. Interment will take place at the Clark Family Cemetery in Frazer, Montana. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ernie and Calvin, and a sister Rita.
Donald G. Clark "Wamni Maxbiya Imbadam Giya" The Eagle that flies up against the top of the sky. Born: February 8, 1933 in Poplar, Montana PARENTS: Walter Clark Jr. and Nellie Ackerman Clark He was raised on the family ranch outside of Frazer, Donald attended schools in Frazer until 1950 when he joined the US Army. He loved to watch sports, play bingo, play pool, go to rodeos, especially the National Finals Rodeo held in Las Vegas. He liked attending Pow-Wows and was happiest when his grandchildren and great grandchildren were around him. Donald married Rosemary Smith in January of 1955 and they were later divorced. He married Nellie Gray Lewis and she later passed away. Donald married Rose Marie Fitzgerald on September 18, 2004.

Edwin R. Cutter
Edwin R. Cutter, age 87, passed away on Monday - October 18, 2004 from natural causes at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Montana.Rosary services are planned for Wednesday - October 20, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at Bell Chapel in Glasgow, MT. Services are planned for Thursday - October 21, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Glasgow, Montana with Rev. Thad Kozikowski officiating. Interment will take place at the Lawndale Cemetery in Opheim, Montana. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. His wife Florence preceded him in death on April 10, 1991.

Ed married Florence Opheim on June 14, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. The lived in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Walnut Creek, California, MT. Vernon, Washington, Albany, New York, and then retired in Glasgow. Ed worked 32 years in Minneapolis as a Clothing Sales Representative. He was an avid sports fan.

Evelyn Turnland
Evelyn Turnland, age 88, passed away on Thursday- October 14, 2004 at the Valley View Home in Glasgow, Montana. Sercices are planned for Tuesday - October 19, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, Montana with the Rev. Martin Mock officiating. Interment will take place at the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow, Montana. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Preceded in death by husband Jim in 1995.
BORN: July 18, 1916 in Glasgow, Montana. PARENTS: Carl and Josephine (Biem) Brekjern Evelyn was born on July 18, 1916 in Glasgow, Montana to Carl and Josephine (Biem) Brekjern. She attended schools in Glasgow and graduated from Glasgow High School in 1935. Evelyn worked as a telephone operator in Glasgow for several years. Evelyn married Jim Turnland in 1957 in Glasgow. She loved to be outdoors and was an avid walker. She loved to read and study the bible, collecting any scriptures and sermons that she could. She and Jim especially enjoyed their cabin at Fort Peck, MT and they also loved to travel. Evelyn was a positive and conscientious person, always concerned about the welfare of others. Evelyn moved to the Nemont Manor in Glasgow in 1997 and has resided at the Valley View Nursing Home since the last three years.

Charlotte Harpster
Charlotte Harpster, age 80, passed away on Thursday - October 7, 2004 of natural causes at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, Montana. Services are planned for Friday - October 15, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hillview Cemetery in Hinsdale, Montana with the Rev. Martin Mock officiating. Interment will take place at Hillview Cemetery in Hinsdale, MT. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Preceded in death by her husband Glen in 1977.
BORN: July 2, 1924 in Helmville, Montana She attended schools in Hinsdale, Montana and graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1942. After high school she moved to Spokane, Washington and worked at an Air Force Base during World War II. She met and married Glen Harpster and after traveling a couple of years with the military they settled in Altoona, Pennsylvania where he worked in an electric appliance shop. Her husband Glen passed away in 1977 and Charlotte moved to Tucson, Arizona with her mother Maude. Charlotte moved to Glasgow in 1980 and lived in Great Falls for two years before moving to Nashua, Montana in 1984. Charlotte has lived in the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow since 1997. She like crocheting, reading, and loved to dance. Charlotte had a great sense of humor, enjoyed taking people out to dinner, and especially loved her dog.

Alvin "Buck" Baldry
Alvin J. ‘Buck’ Baldry, age 73, passed away on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at his home in Ballantine. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Bethlehem Congregational UCC in Worden with interment to follow at Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine. Cremation has taken place. Smith Downtown Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Memorial services will also take place in Scobey, MT on Wednesday, October 13 at 2pm at the Scobey Lutheran Church. Buck was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Arlee; and his wife, Elaine.
Buck was born in Opheim on July 23, 1931, to Chester and Lillian Baldry. He attended school in the Richland and Peerless area. Buck entered the U.S. Army in April 1951, serving in the Korean War in ‘51-‘53. In 1955, Buck went to Highway Patrol School and served in the Wolf Point, Bozeman, and Billings divisions. He retired in June 1 981, as Captain in the Billings Division. Buck was a square dance caller for 20 years in his own Buckaroo Square Dance Club, as well as clubs in the surrounding area. He took a group of square dancers to Norway in 1984 and put on performances for the people they visited. Buck moved to his farm in Ballantine in 1976. He farmed there after his patrol retirement and drove school bus for Huntley Project Schools. Buck married Elaine Erickson of Peerless in 1953. Four children were born to this marriage. Elaine passed away in 1996. Buck married Doris Lindsey in 1997.
Buck is survived by his wife, Doris of Ballantine; children, Marcae (Gary) Nieskens of Scobey, Darrell (Brenda) Baldry of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dan (Tammy) Baldry of Billings, and Carla (Wally) Anguiano of Ballantine; stepchildren, John Lindsey of Huntley, and Leona (Jason) Svancara of Troy, Idaho; grandchildren, Jerod Nieskens of Scobey, Joel Nieskens of Helena, Kelly Nieskens, serving in the National Guard in Fort Polk, La., Kendra Nieskens of Great Falls, Boyd and Rhett Baldry of Colorado Springs, Allie and Jacob Baldry of Billings, Casey Anguiano of Billings, and Britney and Michele Anguiano of Ballantine; step-grandchildren are Josh (Mandy) Degele of Kalispell and Ty Svancara of Troy. Buck is also survived by one great-grandson, Peyton Nieskens of Scobey. Survivors include brothers and sisters, Rodney (Dolores) Baldry of Billings, Helen (Marvin) Trangsrud of Scobey, Doreen (Vince) Bingham of Adrian, Ore., Joan Lekvold of Scobey, Chetty (Donna) Baldry of Scobey, Betty Baldry of Billings, Vern (Winnie) Baldry of Wolf Point, Shirley (Dallas) Williamson of Scobey, Geri (Ron) Jones of Billings, Ike (Bev) Baldry of Billings, and Brother Bede Baldry of Billings.
Esther Grace Keough
Esther Grace Keough, age 92, passed away from natural causes on Wednesday – September 29, 2004 at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, Montana. Services are planned for Monday – October 4, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the Highland Cemetery in Glasgow, Montana with Rev. Jay Ashbaucher officiating. Interment will take place at Highland cemetary. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
BORN: April 21, 1912 in Seattle, Washington PARENTS: Chrest Nielsen and Christina (Kristensen) Nielsen Esther Grace Keough was born April 21, 1912 to Danish parents Chrest Nielsenand Christina Kristensen Nielsen in Seattle, Washington. She lived with her parents on the homestead southwest of Opheim attending a country grade school and High School in Glasgow, graduating in 1931. She also attended college in Dillon, MT for 1 year. On August 22, 1934 Esther married Frank Keough at the Nielsen family farm. They then moved to California where she was employed at the Hillman Dude Ranch as a housekeeper. Frank and Esther and daughter moved back to the Nielsen farm in 1938. They were raising sheep so she baked many loaves of bread for the sheepherders and cooked many meals. She belonged to the Baylor Homemakers Never Late Club. In 1961 Frank and Esther moved to the East Shore of the Flathead Lake. Esther helped with their cherry orchard and had many flowers which she enjoyed. In the summer, when the grandchildren visited she took them to swimming lessons in Polson so they could learn to swim even though she didn’t know how. Esther made many crocheted afghans for the family. In 1999 Frank and Esther moved back to Glasgow to the Nemont Manor. Esther and Frank had a long and good marriage and enjoyed playing cards and going to dances. In 2001 Esther lived with her daughter until moving to Valley View.

Debra Jean Peltier
Debra Jean Peltier, age 50, of Glendive, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Glendive Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 1, 2004 at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Pastor Larry Phalen officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 2, 2004 in the Fort Peck Cemetery in Fort Peck, Montana, with Reverend Marty Mock officiating. Deb was born on February 9, 1954 in Glasgow, Montana, the daughter of Ronald Joseph and Laura Alice (Dolson) Wallem. She attended school in Fort Peck until the eighth grade when she continued her education in Glasgow, graduating from Glasgow High School with the class of 1972. Deb attended Dawson Community College in Glendive. Deb was married to Jim Peltier on March 6, 1984 in Elko, Nevada. They moved to Glendive in 1995 where Deb worked for geological survey for a short time and at Eastmont Human Services Center. She also went to Justin Handran’s home three days a week to help him. She cherished him very much. Deb’s hobbies included fishing, painting and she loved picking rocks and collecting frogs.
Survivors include her husband, Jim, of Glendive; two sons, Jeremy Pliley and his wife Heather of Fort Morgan, Colorado and Michael Peltier of Glendive; two daughters, Amanda Peltier and Allison Peltier, both of Glendive; one brother, David Wallem of Renton, Washington; two sisters, Cheryl Wallem Feezell of Mansfield, Texas and Shelly Riggin of Glasgow, Montana; two granddaughters, Cora Whisper Wilke and Dacey Katheryn Pliley, whom she loved very much.
Calvin "Jim" Gray
Calvin "Jim" Gray, age 5, passed away on Friday- September 24, 2004 in Glasgow, MT. Services are planned Thursday, September 30, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, Montana. Interment will take place on Friday- October 1, 2004 - Scobey Cemetery in Scobey, Montana at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Marin Mock officiating. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Jim was preceded in death by brother Palmer Gray in 1994.
BORN: November 2, 1948 in Scobey, Montana PARENTS: Gordon and Lena (Huebert) Gray Calvin "Jim" Gray was born on November 2, 1948 in Scobey, Montana to Gordon and Lena (Huebert) Gray. He was raised in Richland, Montana. Jim Graduated from Opheim High School. He farmed and ranched in North Eastern Montana. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, loved to dance, play music, play the guitar, banjo, and fiddle. He never missed a dance and enjoyed country western music.
