Ruth Forsythe, a lifelong Valley County resident, passed away at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital on March 27, 2003, at the age of 89. She was born May 16, 1913, to Swedish immigrants C.O. and Tekla (Engstrom) Johnson. Raised on the south bench, she attended the Deitchman Rural School. When it closed she boarded in Glasgow to attend school. Her father came with a team of horses to taker her for weekends. Ruth graduated from Glasgow High School in 1931 and worked at Sternhagen Insurance Agency for several years. On December 30, 1933 she married William Forsythe in Glasgow.
Ruth was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow where she participated in various activities. Her favorites were the Wednesday afternoon quilting group and the Lydia Circle. One of the things she will be remembered for is her beautiful embroidery and crochet work.
Survivors include her daughter Carol Cotton of Glasgow, son John (Sue) Forsythe of Forsyth, Montana, and a sister Audrey Parke of Glasgow. She is also survived by granddaughter Marsha (Michael) Hall of Billings, a grandson John (Sherri) Forsythe of Algona, Iowa, and great-granddaughter Emily Forsythe of Belgrade. Preceding her in death were her husband William in 1997, a son Gary Forsythe in 1970, and a grandson Edward Forsythe in 2001.

He was raised west of Glasgow, one of 12 children. He was stationed in Hawaii in the US Air Force. Leo married Rose Moseley in 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She passed away 1979. Leo married Bertha Kamrud on April 12, 1980 in Glasgow. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage and whist, gardening, his coffee group with friends, and traveling to visit with family.

The Lord took Don by the hand home on Friday, February 3rd, after a long and courageous battle with cancer and other health problems.
Don was born in Wolf Point, Montana on January 17, 1931 to Alex and Ruby (Bilyeu) Grimsrud. He was raised on a farm 15 miles northeast of Wolf Point, attended school at the Wide Awake school until the 7th grade, then continued school in Wolf Point, graduating in 1948.
Don worked for Hi-Line Construction building power lines in northeastern Montana until enlisting into the Air Force in November of 1950.
He served in the Philippines and Taiwan. Returning home in May of 1953 Don married Shirley Jensen on June 3, 1953 in Wolf Point, and moved to California where he was stationed until discharged from the Air Force November of that year. Returning to Montana, they lived north of Wolf Point until purchasing land north of Nashua in the spring of 1955. Don served as National Director of the National Farmers Organization from 1973 to 1977.
They were blessed with three children, Trace, Ron and Lori. In 1984 they moved into Nashua, purchased a home in 1985 and continued to farm until retiring due to health problems in 1989.
Don enjoyed playing canasta, and watching birds. His greatest joy was his family. He had a great impact on our lives as husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Don was preceded in death by their oldest son, Trace, in 2001.
Survivors are his wife, Shirley, son Ron (Karen) Grimsrud of Huntley, daughter Lori Grimsrud of Nashua, grandchildren Andrea (Nathan) McClenning of Billings, Cody (Jeannette) Grimsrud of Kent, Washington, Kylie Grimsrud and Dylan Grimsrud of Huntley, and Talisha Grimsrud, (daughter of Trace) of Belt; great grandchildren Brooke McClenning, Damon and Gideon Grimsrud; brothers Larry (Sharon) Grimsrud of Jordan, Wayne (Judy) Grimsrud of Culbertson, sister Joann Martens of Billings, brother-in-laws Arlie (Polly) Jensen of Meeteetsie, Wyoming, Larry (Marilyn) Jensen of Whitefish, Mrs. Bud Jensen of Scobey, and all the nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Don was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nashua, Montana.
Robert Wayne "Murph" Murphy

MALTA-Robert Wayne “Murph” Murphy, 58 years, a bar tender, died Friday, January 27, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at the Malta Lutheran Church. There will be a viewing at the Adams Funeral Home on Friday, from Noon until 6:00 P.M. Cremation will follow the viewing. There will be a luncheon at the Stockman’s Bar following the memorial services. Adams Funeral Home and Crematory of Malta are in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy, daughters Kellie (Jason) Brenden of Helena, Kaycie (Tim Bullard) Murphy of Malta; son Wesley (Brianna) Murphy; special daughters, Joel Dupree, Serena (Jason) Infante of Billings; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Dalton & Dillon Brenden, Cayton Dupree, Nicholas & Jacob Infante, and two soon to be born; brothers-in-law, Dean (Jennifer) Pearson of Malta, Dennis Pearson of Havre, Rudy Solis, Robert (Zoanne) Humphreys of Malta, two very special nieces, Krista Falgren, Barbara (Nick) Cilz; aunt Doris Johnson, nephew, Jeremy Pearson, Joshua (Camille) Pearson, niece Bobbi Sue Humphreys. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Murphy Cooper, father Ed Humphreys, grandparents who raised him as their own, Merle and Mary Murphy; special Uncle Wesley Murphy; sister, Susan Solis.
Robert Wayne Murphy was born June 24, 1947 in Malta. He was raised and educated in Malta. He worked at the Malta Creamery for several years. He married the love of his life, Cynthia Pearson on June 3, 1972 in Malta. He owned and operated the Roger’s Saloon for many years. For the past several years Murph has ran the little bar at the Sleeping Buffalo called “Murph’s Landing.” Murph had a passion for hunting and fishing. He enjoyed giving out reports on how the fishing was on Nelson Reservoir, either true of not.
Father James A. Thistle

MALTA - Father James A. Thistle, 82 years, a retired Episcopal Priest and school teacher, died Saturday, January 28, at the Hi-Line Retirement Center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta. There will be a Vigil service at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Malta Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors in the Boston area, Father Thistle leaves behind three sisters, Alice Foley of Southboro, MA, Elsie Macari of Watertown, MA and Joan Yokell of Billerica, MA. He also leaves dozens of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Father Thistle also leaves countless friends and former students throughout Philips County and beyond, all part of his extended Montana family for the past 45 years.
Father James Arthur Thistle was born in Hopkinton, Massachusetts on January 26, 1924. His mother was Violet Durham Thistle of Cheltenham England and his father was John Thistle of Newfoundland Canada. Father Thistle was raised in the Boston area and graduated from Adriane College in Michigan.
He taught school in Maine during the 1950s and was ordained a Methodist Minister in Bangor Maine in 1953. Throughout the 40s and 50s, Father Thistle both worked and volunteered at a number of New England hospitals. While he was often involved in the care of the elderly, he was most proud of delivering more than a few babies.
Father Thistle first arrived in Montana in about 1960 and stayed for good in 1964 after the passing of his mother. He taught school in a few small towns and reservations in Eastern Montana until 1986. Always a devout Christian, he was ordained an Episcopal Priest in 1986 and was the last Episcopal Priest in Malta.
He was very happy to also be the sponsor of 13 foreign exchange students in his years after teaching. From all over the world he welcomed young people to experience the beauty and hospitality of Montana.
With great enthusiasm he volunteered as the chaplain at the Good Samaritan for nearly 25 years. He often said that serving others, no matter their religious affiliation, was the greatest gift of all.
Father Thistle was an avid collector of stamps and books and loved studying history. On his many trips back east over the years, he spent many hours in the bookstores, libraries and museums of Boston. Although he taught throughout his life, he was always a student of history, religion and human nature.

Alan was born in Glasgow, attened grade school in Fort Peck, and then graduated from Malta High School in 1949.
Alan married Margery LaBrie on September 17, 1958 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Malta, Montana. They lived in Malta from 1958 to 1968 and then moved to Glasgow where they have lived since. Alan worked as a signal maintainer for the Railroad. He also served in the US Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW in Malta, enjoyed his family and loved fishing.
