DATE OF DEATH: Monday, April 10, 2006
CAUSE OF DEATH: Natural Causes
PLACE OF DEATH: Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, MT
SERVICE: Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at First Methodist Church in Glasgow, MT
OFFICIATING: Rev. Rogenes and Rev. Fox
MORTUARY IN CHARGE: Bell Mortuary of Glasgow, MT
Pearl Verona Kinzell, 93, longtime Glasgow resident, passed away of natural causes, Monday evening, April 10, 2006, at the Glasgow Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.
She was born the first of six children to Nels and Edna (Kennedy) Mattson, on December 3, 1912, in New Rockford, North Dakota. She grew up and received her education in the North Dakota Communities of Sheyenne, New Rockford and Minot.
At a young age, Pearl's father died, leaving behind a widow, six small children, and a small farm with a large debt. Pearl, being the eldest child, became a second mother to her brothers and sisters. Even as grown adults she maintained a 'motherly' interest in the well being of her siblings and always remained a strong part of their lives.
On May 17, 1929, in Fargo, ND, Pearl married a young man form Horwich, ND by the name of Leslie Kinzell. Their marriage lasted two days short of thirty nine years when on May 15, 1968, Leslie succumbed to the muscle destroying illness known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
For a large portion of her life, Pearl was a cook and dietician for the Glasgow School system. To her, the early morning work hours were worth the satisfaction of seeing the students being fe a healthy noontime lunch. Throughout the school the aroma of freshly baked bread would be a tantalizing temptation to both students and teachers alike.
In later years Pearl worked as a sewing room supervisor for the AVCO Corporation at the former Glasgow Air Force Base. Her skills with a sewing machine were always well known in the community.
During her retirement years, her hobbies included early morning walks, growing flowers and doing yard work, but her real enjoyment came from babysitting and watching her two grandson, Teage and Trent grow. While her health permitted, there wasn't a baseball game, track meet nor choir concert she missed. At 4 ft. 11 inches tall and 95 pounds, she became known to them as "Little Grandma" and became a very strong positive influence in their lives.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, sisters, one son Gerald and a daughter Donna.
She is survived by her sons Les (Lamoyne) Kinzell of Palmdale, CA and Rick (Sue) Kinzell of Glasgow and a daughter, Cherie (Earl) Norgon of Glasgow. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Teague (Kristie) Kinzell of Courtenay, ND, Trent (Deb) of Minot, ND, Yvette (Paul) Goins and Antony (Joan) Kinzell of Palmdale, CA, Anitra (Joe) Chew of Auburn, WA and great grandchildren, Shana Goins of Lancaster, CA, Christina, Elisa and Elena Chew of Auburn, WA, and Kalen Ann Kinzell (2 months old) Courtenay, ND.
