Rex O'neal Opheim
Tuesday, May 23rd 2006
Rex Opheim, age 79, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at St. Luke Hospital in Ronan, MT.
Born to Norris & Lilah Opheim in Great Falls, MT. on January 6, 1926. Raised and educated in Opheim High School. He entered into the army when he was 18 years of age, became a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 310th Infantry Division, 78th Division. While in the European Theater of Operations his infantry received the 3rd Battalion 310th Infantry Citation, “The Presidential Citation” for their exemplary courage, spirit and devotion against enemy resistance force while assisting in securing Kretzhaus & Kallenbom road junction which controlled 8 roads and a railway line covering the Remagen Bridge.
He was wounded three times before reaching the age of 20 and received the Purple Heart, pins and awards. His commitment to staying steadfast and strong no matter the situation was also exemplary in his providing for his loving wife, Jody for 59 years, and their family.
Rex always showed an appreciation to good friends, loved to sing, dance and entertained many people throughout his life. Many times, if things needed picking up he would strike up a song or tell his favorite jokes to get the “social event” going and encircle everyone into enjoying the moment “and a few who didn’t”.
He was reared hard, worked harder, and relaxing was very difficult for him; for those of us who love him this was always accepted and understood.
Rex is survived by his wife Jody, his sons Jerry, Jim, Mike, and Berney, and daughter, Lori, 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, and his sister Marketa. Preceding him in death were his mother, sister Mavis, father and brother Ben.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Opheim Lutheran Church on Sunday, May 28, 2006 with Pastor Collette Paul officiating. Military Memorial Honor Guard Services will follow at the Opheim Lawndale Cemetery which will be conducted by VFW Post 3107 of Glasgow.
Family requests donations go toward the Opheim Lawndale Cemetery Maintenance.

Thomas was born in Wolf Point and lived there until the age of 7. His family moved to Glasgow and then to Fort Peck, Montana. He later lived in Washington and California but spent most of his adult life in Glasgow.
Thomas enjoyed his life. He didn’t openly show his affection to people, but give him an animal and the kisses flowed. His parrot, George, traveled the streets with him, perched proudly on his shoulder. And then there’s Cleo, his cat. Cleo is a one man cat; the only other person she’s made friends with is brother Frank. Thomas would buy only Friskies cat food because that’s all she would eat. He would lie in bed and give Cleo butterfly kisses on her nose.
Thomas was a talented artist and made many Indian artifacts. His latest project was a traditional men’s regalia for his great nephew Michael T.
Thomas loved his family dearly and would do anything within his power for them. His door was always open to his many friends. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
