The Rev. David McGhee
GASTONIA - The Rev. David Lee McGhee, 46, of 207 Sue Ellen Court, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Willa Spell McGhee, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Etta Brown McGhee, who survives, and the late Mr. Graydon Irvin McGhee. He began his ministry in 1974 and was pastor at churches in Collinsville, Va., Kannapolis and was current pastor of Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church, serving since June of 1990. He served as a board member of the Western North Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness for 12 years, nine years as assistant superintendent. He was on the World Missions Board for eight years and on the Evangelism USA Board for five years of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors other than his wife and mother of Patrick Springs, Va., include two sons, Mr. Chad Thomas McGhee and Mr. Christopher David McGhee, both of the home; two brothers, Mr. Gerald McGhee of Burlington and Mr. Tommy McGhee of Greensboro; four sisters, Mrs. George (Pearlie) Coleman of Collinsville, Mrs. James (Elaine) Scarlett of Snow Camp, Mrs. Phillip (Naomi) Pilson of Stuart, Va., and Mrs. George (Nadine) Wilson of Clinton.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Tommy Fuquay, the Rev. Walter Wood and the Rev. Robert Gittens. Entombment will be in Hillcrest Gardens Mausoleum.
Ministers of the Pentecostal Holiness Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will be at the church from 6 to 9 this evening.

Mrs. Thelma B. Ezzell
GRAHAM - Mrs. Thelma Brooks Ezzell, 79, of 809 Oakley St., died at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, two days critical.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lester Ezzell, and the daughter of Mr. Johnny G. Brooks and Mrs. Emma S. Webster Brooks, both deceased. She was a retired employee of Carolina Hosiery. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Donnie Kay Ward of Graham; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Dan Bartel, pastor of Northside Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a grandson, Mr. Mike Ward, 1449 Brickyard Way, Graham.
Mr. Raymond Ferguson
GRAHAM - Mr. Raymond John Ferguson, 73, of 1906 Springmeadow Drive, died at 12:12 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after a two-day illness.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nancy Johnston Ferguson, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Seaton Ferguson and Mrs. Lois Bare Ferguson, both deceased. He was retired from Burlington Industries and was self-employed with textiles byproduct sales. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Burlington Industries Retiree Group. He was a member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the choir.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. John Raymond Ferguson of Eatonton, Ga.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Morton Kurtz, pastor of Piedmont Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Rachel Troxler
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Rachel Willis Troxler, 77, of 3667 Troxler Lane, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Catawba County, she was the wife of Mr. Frank G. Troxler, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Howard A. Willis and Mrs. Jennie Baker Willis, both deceased. She was a retired home economics teacher and librarian from Altamahaw-Ossipee Elementary School. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority, where she was past president of the Tau Chapter and past Distric V vice president. She was a member of the Home Economics Club and Retired Teachers' Association. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was financial secretary, and a member of the United Methodist Women, where she was past president.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Kay T. Booe and Mrs. Millie T. Langley, both of Elon College; a son, Mr. Jerry Troxler of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Mr. John Willis of Hickory and Mr. Eugene Willis of Charlotte; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Hugh Willis.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairview United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Dutton, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ruth B. McIver
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ruth Brewer McIver, 71, formerly of Pinecrest St., died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Silas Creek Manor in Winston-Salem after four years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Marvin R. McIver, and the daughter of Mr. Andrew Brewer and Mrs. Myrtle Johnson Brewer, both deceased. She was a retired supervisor at Kayser-Roth Hosiery. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Sharon M. Wolfe of Burlington and Mrs. Dean (Cathy) Caldwell of Winston-Salem; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Mark Harris, pastor of Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 8 this evening.
Mr. James P. Ross
REIDSVILLE - Mr. James Paul Ross, 61, of 2504 Daffodil Road, died Tuesday morning, March 17, 1998, at his home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Betty Warf Ross, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Blanche Ross Somers, who survives, the late Mr. Joe Jasper Ross and the stepson of the late Mr. Samuel Edward Somers. He was a graduate of Altamahaw-Ossipee High School and retired after more than 28 years of service from Lorrilard. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church in Altamahaw.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Burlington include a son, Mr. Donald P. Ross of Burlington; a daughter, Mrs. David (Sylvia R.) Bazal of Mebane; a sister, Mrs. Bennett (Janice R.) Williamson of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, Mr. Bennett Ross, Mr. Eddie W. 'Dub' Ross and Mr. Dan Ross, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Zetta Ross Isley.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. D. Turner Phillips
BURLINGTON - Mr. D. Turner Phillips, 89, of Twin Lakes Center died at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at the center.
A native of Wilkes County, he was the husband of Mrs. Beulah Bradley Phillips, who survives, and the son of Mr. Ira R. Phillips and Mrs. Adelaide Josephine Blackburn Phillips, both deceased. He was the retired owner of Swan Stores and was a member of the Burlington Kiwanis Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, where he was lifetime deacon, trustee of the church, Sunday school teacher and a choir member.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sisters, Mrs. Faye Phillips Guthrie and Mrs. Pansy Epperson, both of Hickory; and a brother, Mr. S. Alwyn Phillips of Hickory.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Burlington by Dr. Craig McMahan, pastor. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Edith G. Batts
ASHEVILLE - Mrs. Edith Garner Batts, 81, of 177 Eastmoor Drive, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Mission-St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville after a short illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Robert Lee Batts, and the daughter of Mr. Luther George Garner and Mrs. Julia Dorsett Garner, both deceased. She was a retired employee of NationsBank and was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dianna Batts Cecil of the home; one sister, Mrs. Martha Hewitt of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Alfred H. Garner of Burlington; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Foy Garner Anthony; and three brothers, Mr. John Garner, Mr. Luther 'Shike' Garner and Mr. Dorsett Garner.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Dr. Craig McMahan, pastor of First Baptist Church of Burlington. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Oneda L. Webster
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Oneda Lee Webster, 91, of 1987 Hilton Road, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at Alamance Health Care Center after several years of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mr. John Will Webster and Mrs. Mattie Lunsford Webster, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Union United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jean H. Butler of Mebane and Mrs. Wilma H. Day of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Selma Olive of Yanceyville, Mrs. Mildred Tatum of Leasburg and Mrs. Ada Lee of Vero Beach, Fla.; a brother, Mr. Joseph Webster of Mebane; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, two grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Betsy Combs. Burial will be in Union United Methodist Church cemetery.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Mr. Joseph C. Hicks Jr., 60, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at Long Beach Hospital.
A native of Burlington, he was the son of the Rev. Joseph C. Hicks Sr. and Mrs. Dalbe Mae Hicks, both deceased.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Joseph Dean Hicks of Long Beach; two sisters, Ms. Betty Hollacheff of Long Beach and Ms. Ella Threat of Jamestown, Calif.
