Mrs. Mattie P. Hanner
WILSON - Mrs. Mattie P. Hanner, a resident of Special Care Center in Wilson, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Lula Bell Summers Pinnix, who survives, and the late Mr. Stiner Pinnix. She was a domestic worker and a member of Camp Grove Holiness Church.
Survivors other than her mother include one son, Mr. Douglas Pinnix of Clover Garden; three daughters, Mrs. June Stephens, Mrs. Linda Wyatt and Ms. Brenda Pinnix, all of Burlington; one brother, Mr. Jimmy Pinnix of Burlington; five sisters, Mrs. Christine Latta, Mrs. Lula Mae Brand and Mrs. Betty Jo Walker, all of Burlington, Mrs. Rachel Harris and Mrs. Lena Mitchell, both of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Funeral Home 30 minutes before the service and at other times at 610 Apt. E Tucker St., Burlington, N.C.
Mrs. Nettie K. Smith
MEBANE - Mrs. Nettie Bell Kirk Smith, 86, of 301 W. Jackson St., died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, two days critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Gilbert Miles Smith, and the daughter of Mr. Claude Kirk and Mrs. Emma King Kirk, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Mebane.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Shirley S. Shambley and Mrs. Jeanette S. Rowland, both of Mebane, Mrs. Annette S. Stone of Chapel Hill and Mrs. Mary Alice Bradshaw of Lady Lake, Fla.; four sons, Mr. Gilbert M. Smith Jr. of the home, Mr. George E. Smith of Haw River, Mr. Darwin Smith of Burlington and Mr. Gerald Dean Smith of Mebane; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Dugger of Winston-Salem; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Melvin Smith; and a brother, Mr. Graham Kirk.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Jay Bissett. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Mebane.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Frances T. Perry
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Tranbarger Perry, 58, of 3457-A Daniely Waterwheel Road, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday, March 20, 1998, at her home after 15 months of failing health, six weeks critical.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of Mr. Ernest E. Perry, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Benjamin C. Tranbarger and Mrs. Iona Reed Tranbarger, both deceased. She was an employee of American MultiMedia Inc., and was a member of People's Church in Mebane.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Ms. Deborah F. Hart and Ms. Cindy M. Perry, both of the home; a son, Mr. John W. Perry III of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie M. Shelton of Danville, Va., and Mrs. Ruby May of Haw River; and three brothers, Mr. Wayne Tranbarger of Mebane, Mr. Benny Tranbarger of Haw River and Mr. Carl Tranbarger of Danville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Roy Tranbarger and Mr. Buddy Tranbarger.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. James W. Christopher Jr. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mr. Arthur E. Holt
GRAHAM - Mr. Arthur Edgar 'Monk' Holt, 88, of 3515 Preacher Holmes Road, died at 7:38 p.m. Friday, March 20, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of five months.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Grace Ray Holt, who died Jan. 1, 1993, and the son of Mr. Issac Holt Sr. and Mrs. Edith Boone Holt, both deceased. He was a retired foreman with Carolina Steel. He attended Elon College and was a member of the Swepsonville Old Timers Baseball Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Pat Schronce of Graham; a son, Mr. Mike Holt of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Roberson of Graham; a brother, Mr. Issac Holt Jr. of Graham; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Mrs. Freddie Fulton, Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Bonnie Hood, Mrs. Annie Crabtree, Mrs. Della Paris and Mrs. Mable Davis; and three brothers, Mr. Heenan Holt, Mr. Bill Holt and Mr. Ted Holt.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. James L. Florence, pastor of Florence Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Barbara P. Ross
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Barbara Louise Petty Ross, 62, of 2149 Gerringer Mill Road, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after several years of failing health, two days critical.
She was the daughter of Mr. Emmitt Lee Petty and Mrs. Zetta Lee Medley Petty, both deceased. She was formerly employed by Burlington Industries, Pioneer Plant. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. David (Sylvia R.) Bazal of Mebane; a son, Mr. Donald P. Ross of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Zetta Ross Isley.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Christian Church, by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
Mr. Charlie B. Poole
EFLAND - Mr. Charlie Boyce Poole, 72, of 2913 U.S. 70 West, died at 7:25 p.m. Friday, March 20, 1998, at his home after two years of failing health.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Edna Burke Nichols Poole, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charlie T. Poole and Mrs. Addie Broach Poole, both deceased. He was the former owner of Tel-Rad. T.V. Service in Durham and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Efland United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Pamela Walden of Statesville; two sons, Mr. Richard Poole and Mr. Bruce Poole, both of Efland; two sisters, Miss Juanita Poole of Durham and Mrs. Frances Leonard of High Point; four brothers, Mr. Wilbur Poole of Cedar Grove, Mr. Hassell Poole of Burlington, Mr. R.B. Poole of Durham and Mr. Larry Poole of Mebane; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Efland United Methodist Church by the Rev. James T. Weaver Jr., pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Ruby W. Medlin
MARIETTA, Ga. - Ms. Ruby Williams Medlin, 95, of Marietta, formerly of Mebane, died Friday, March 20, 1998.
A native of Belmont, she had lived most of her life in Mebane and had lived in Marietta since 1977. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, where she attended Sunday school, was a circle member and worked with children.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Anne Sendgikoski of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Ms. Barbara Medlin of Cartersville, Ga.; a son, Mr. Phillip L. Medlin of Marietta; a sister, Ms. Frances Miller of Mebane; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta by Dr. James O. Speed. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood cemetery in Mebane by the Rev. Wyatt Atkin.
The family will be at the church after the memorial service and at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 Monday evening.

Mr. William H. Miles
YANCEYVILLE - Mr. William Herman 'Jake' Miles, 75, of 1152 Cook Road, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham.
A native of Caswell County, he was the son of Mr. Walter Miles and Mrs. Lula Bell Lea Miles, both deceased. He was a self-employed tobacco farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Shinette Graves of Yanceyville; two brothers, Mr. Hugh Miles and Mr. J.D. Miles, both of Yanceyville; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel M. Long of Yanceyville, Mrs. Della M. Cunningham and Ms. Barbara Ann Miles, both of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at High Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Wesley Richmond and the Rev. B.R. Inge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.
Mr. Dwight E. Teague
SNOW CAMP - Mr. Dwight Eugene Teague, 68, of 220 Teague Trail, died at 8:38 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Bobbie Thompson Teague, and the son of Mr. York Teague and Mrs. Alice Teague Teague, both deceased. He was a retired inspector with the City of Carrboro and formerly worked with the City of Mebane and Alamance County. He was a former player with the Dodgers in the Minor Leagues. He was a member of Cane Creek Friends Meeting, where he was a former chairman of the church trustees.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Paula Teague-Dutton of Philadelphia and Miss Carolyn Teague of Greensboro; a son, Mr. Jimmy Teague of Reidsville; four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Kimball, Mrs. Louise Wilson and Mrs. Martha Rogers, all of Snow Camp, and Mrs. Laura Thompson of Graham; four brothers, Mr. Franklin Teague of Gibsonville, Mr. Marion Teague and Mr. Larry Teague, both of Snow Camp, and Mr. Carlyle Teague of Raleigh; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Cane Creek Friends Meeting by the Rev. Steve Dutton and the Rev. Dale Matthews. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Annie B. Poplin
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Annie Byrd Poplin, 85, of 852 S. Main St., Apt. 6, died at 6:50 a.m. Friday, March 20, 1998, at the Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Alamance in Graham after six months of failing health. She was a former resident of Orlando, Fla.
A native of Durham, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lonnie Lewis Poplin, and daughter of Mr. John Franklin Byrd and Mrs. Sylvia Ann Stewart Byrd, both deceased. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include neices and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Ms. Bethany Petty, Ms. Gertrude Tripp, Ms. Bertha Tharrington, Ms. Irene Cleary and Ms. Rosa Denham; and four brothers, Mr. John Franklin Byrd, Mr. John Herman Byrd, Mr. Herman Minson Byrd and Mr. George V. Byrd.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Charles Dickens of Lexington and the Rev. David Price of Winston-Salem. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery in Durham.
There will be no visitation.
