Mr. Danny L. Barham
GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Mr. Danny Lee Barham, 34, of 4910 Mount Vernon Road, died at his home Friday morning, March 20, 1998, of injuries received when a tornado struck Gainesville.
A native of Fort Knox, Ky., he was the son of Mr. William P. Barham and Mrs. Monika Andreas Barham of Burlington. He was a painter and attended Cummings High School. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his parents include one sister, Ms. Susan A. Hope of Mebane; and a brother, Mr. Rodney A. Barham of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. William L. Baker, pastor of St. Regis Chapel. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. William P. Barham, 2741 McKinney St., Burlington.
Mr. Charles Weisner Sr.
GIBSONVILLE - Mr. Charles O. Weisner Sr., 76, of 406 Little Avenue, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A native of Greensboro, he was the husband of Mrs. Edna Wyrick Weisner who survives, and the son of Mr. John O. Weisner and Mrs. Alma Bessie Lineberry Weisner, both deceased. He was retired as plant manager after 37 years from Engineered Plastics Inc. He was a former employee of Wysong and Miles in Greensboro, and worked for the Newport News Ship Yard in Newport News, Va.
He was a member of N.C. Tobasco Masonic Lodge 76 AF and AM, member and past president of Gibsonville Rotary Club and a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was a past president of the Givsonville Parent Teacher Association, and received a life membership in the N.C. Congress of Parents and Teachers. He was past president of Personnel Association of Alamance County, Associate member of American Society of Personnel Association, past vice chairman and secretary of the Gibsonville School District Committee and a charter member of the Gibsonville Country Club.
He was a member and former deacon of Brightwood Christian Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Aubrey W. (Judy) Shepherd of Raleigh, Mrs. Richard M. (Carol) Younger of Gibsonville and Mrs. Charles J. (Jo) Uckele of Burlington; one son, Mr. Charles O. 'Chuck' Weisner Jr. of Gibsonville; two brothers, Mr. Tommy A. Weisner and Mr. Billy Weisner, both of Greensboro; one sister, Mrs. John (Margaret) Durham of Greensboro; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brightwood Christian Church by the Rev. Delton Agnor and the Rev. Harold Chrismon. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Alamance Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of Brightwood Christian Church.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Marshall Mangum
ROXBORO - Mr. Marshall Apple Mangum, 75, of Roxboro died Saturday evening, March 21, 1998.
Born March 3, 1923, he was a native of Durham County. He was the husband of Mrs. Lucille Chambers who survives, and the son of Mr. Ollie Mangum and Mrs. Mary Apple Mangum, both deceased. He was a member of the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Ms. Judy Mangum Martin of Timberlake, Ms. Bonnie Mangum Buchanan of Pensacola, Fla. and Ms. Debbie Mangum Hamlett of Elon College; three brothers, Mr. Woodrow Mangum, Mr. James Mangum and Mr. Falk Mangum, all of Durham; two sisters, Ms. Muriel Mangum of Durham and Mrs. Faye M. Roberts of Bahama; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church by the Rev. Norma Walters. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Brooks and White Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening.

Mrs. Frances Aldridge
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Mrs. Frances R. Aldridge, a former resident of Burlington, died at 12:58 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 1998, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital after several months of failing health.
She was the wife of the late Mr. William T. Aldridge.

Ms. Ruby W. Medlin
MARIETTA, Ga. - Ms. Ruby Williams Medlin, 95, of Marietta, formerly of Mebane, died Friday, March 20, 1998.
A native of Belmont, she had lived most of her life in Mebane and had lived in Marietta since 1977. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, where she attended Sunday school, was a circle member and worked with children.
Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Anne Sendgikoski of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Ms. Barbara Medlin of Cartersville, Ga.; a son, Mr. Phillip L. Medlin of Marietta; a sister, Ms. Frances Miller of Mebane; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta by Dr. James O. Speed. The family will be at the church after the memorial service.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood cemetery in Mebane by the Rev. Wyatt Aiken.
The family will be at the McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 7 to 9 this evening.
Mr. Robert Crutchfield
GREENSBORO - Mr. Robert F. Crutchfield of 6159 Bellflower Road, Gibsonville, died Friday March 20, 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn W. Crutchfield; two sons, Mr. Robert A. Crutchfield and Mr. Jerome Crutchfield, both of Gibsonville; two daughters, Ms. Gwen J. Crutchfield of Gibsonville and Ms. Alfreda C. Poteat; one brother, Mr. Richard A. Crutchfield of Gibsonville; a foster brother, Mr. Clifton Degraffinreid of Baltimore; two stepbrothers, Mr. Fred Summers of Sedalia and Mr. Wash Summers of Greensboro; five sisters, Ms. Lillian Jenkins, Ms. Joyce Parker, Ms. Christine Allen and Ms. Barbara Blackmon, all of Greensboro, and Ms. Pauline Page of Pittsboro.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday at St. John's AME Church in Gibsonville. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro.

Mrs. Viva H. Owens
SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Viva Hayton Owens, 98, of Snow Camp, died Sunday morning, March 22, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington.
A native of Ceres, Va., she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She is survived by two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty by the Rev. Dan Quackenbush and the Rev. Howard Spray. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Christian Church cemetery.

Ms. Louise C. Slade
BLANCH - Ms. Louise Mae Crumpton Slade, 78, of 1381 Blanch Road, died Sunday, March 22, 1998 at Brian Center in Yanceyville after two years of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was wife of the late Mr. John Mastin Slade, and the daughter of Mr. Sherwood Lee Crumpton and Mrs. Ida Fitch Crumpton, both deceased. She was retired from Taylor Nursing Home and was a homemaker. She was a member of Purley United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Brenda S. Haynes of Blanch; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Purley United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of the daughter, 1361 Blanch Road.

Mr. Harold Steele Sr.
CONCORD - Mr. Harold Steele Sr., 64, of 2720 Rock Hill Church Road died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Intergrated Health Services in Charlotte after an illness of three months.
Born June 1, 1933, in Cabarrus County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mazella Young Steele, who survives, and the son of Mr. Hezekiah W. Steele and Mrs. Ora Green Steele, both deceased. He was employed by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, where he was a member of the Church Council, Brotherhood Club, Trustee Board, Senior Choir, Men's Choir and Young Men's Social Club.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Ms. Wanda S. James of Fredericksburg, Va., and Ms. April S. Blackmon of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons, Mr. Harold Steele Jr. of Concord, Mr. Michael A. Steele of Elon College and Mr. Robert D. Steele of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three sisters, Ms. Mary S. Smoot of Charlotte, Ms. Helen S. Marrow of Philadelphia and Ms. Daisy Misenheimer of Concord; two brothers, Mr. Lawrence A. Steele and Mr. David E. Steele Sr., both of Concord; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ by Dr. A. Rudolph Hendricks. Burial will be in National cemetery in Salisbury.
The family will be at the church from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Hassell H. Preston
INDIANAPOLIS - Mr. Hassell H. Preston, 71, formerly of Graham, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Indianapolis after several years of failing health.
Born Dec. 18, 1926, in Belews Creek, he was the husband of Mrs. Ann Jones Preston, who survives, and the son of Mr. Walter E. Preston and Mrs. Grace Hammack Preston, both deceased. He retired in 1989 after 38 years as a route supervisor for Golden Guernsey Dairy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Kenneth W. Preston of Muncie, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Vickie Preston Weidman of Thornton, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Joanne Schwab of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Nightingale Preston Stewart of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Canton C. Preston of Burlington; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and eight great-step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Ind.
Mr. Rufus S. Smith Sr.
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Rufus Samuel Smith Sr., 80, of 6945 N.C. 87 North, died at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Maplewood Nursing Center after several months of failing health.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Annie Lucille Clapp Smith, and the son of Mr. Walter Smith and Mrs. Claudia Boone Smith, both deceased. He was a member of Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Vernell Braswell of Greensboro, Mrs. Ruby Lindsey of Reidsville and Ms. Linda Faye Smith of the home; a son, Mr. William Smith of the home; a sister, Mrs. Emma McManus of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church in Rockingham County by the Rev. Ronald Weatherford, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.
