Mrs. Bessie D. Faucette
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Bessie Lillian Daye Faucette, 87, of Alamance Heath Care Center, died Friday, March 27, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after a long illness.
A native of Granville County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Herman Henderson Faucette Sr., and the daughter of Elder Robert Daye and Mrs. Luddie Moore Daye, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jearl Dean White of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Betty Tate of Mebane and Mrs. Janis Jeffries of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Herman Faucette Jr. and Mr. James Ronald Faucette, both of Atlanta; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church on Apple Street, by Elder William Alston, pastor of Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist Church, and Dr. R.W. Styles, pastor of First Baptist Church on Apple Street. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 6 to 7 Wednesday evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Jeffries, 625 Holly St., Burlington.
Mrs. Emma C. Welch
THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Emma Jean Cornwell Welch, 64, of 702 Georgia Ave., died Sunday afternoon, March 29, 1998, at her home.
Born Feb. 20, 1934, in Fountain Run, Ky., she was married
in 1953 to Mr. George William Welch, who died Jan. 10, 1992. She was the daughter of Mr. Clovis Jack Cornwell and Mrs. Margaret Brandon Cornwell, both deceased. She was employed for 15 years as manager of Mayberry's and following her retirement she was employed with the Thomasville Primary School for 11 years. She was an active member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of Ladies No. 1 Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Debra) Browers Sr. of Burlington and Mrs. Michael (Donna) Callahan of Asheboro; two sons, Mr. Jackie Williams Welch of Thomasville and Mr. Johnny Lee Welch of Archdale; six sisters, Mrs. Bobby (Glendith) Morrison, Mrs. Clifford (Brenda) Oliver, Mrs. Larry (Becky) Pitcock, all of Kentucky, Mrs. Lee Hughes Maine of Illinois, Mrs. David (Marie) Solomon of Indiana and Mrs. Jerry (Betty) Crabtree of Tennessee; a brother, Mr. Joe Cornwell of Kentucky; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Stuart White.
The family will be at the home.

Mrs. Beth H. Chastain
MOULTRIE, Ga. - Mrs. Beth Holden Chastain, 63, of 24 Cherokee Road, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Worth County, Ga., after a sudden illness.
Born May 12, 1934, in Shelbyville, Tenn., she was the wife of Mr. Jack C. Chastain, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Holden and Mrs. Clarice Tune Holden, both deceased. She was a house manager and a former public school teacher. She was a graduate of Rhodes College. She was a member of the Moultrie Colquitt County Library Board, a sustaining member of the Moultrie Service League, and an active volunteer for the Moultrie Food Bank. She was a Presbyterian and was an active member of the Women of the Presbyterian Church, She was a Sunday school teacher, a circle chairman of the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Covenant Sunday School Class.
Survivors other than her husband of Moultrie include a son, Mr. Paul H. Chastain of Watkinsville, Ga., Ms. Elizabeth L. Chastain of Alabama; and a sister, Ms. Harriet H. Thomas of Burlington.
A graveside service was conducted Monday at Westview cemetery in Moultrie by the Rev. Hugh Ward.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Covenant Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Inez L. Grainger
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Inez Ledford Grainger, 83, of Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 1998, at her home, after three years of failing health.
A native of Griffin, Ga., she was the daughter of Mr. Robert Lee Ledford and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Miller Ledford, both deceased. She was formerly of Sagefield Drive, Burlington, and was a long-time resident of Bessemer City.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Grace L. Green of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Carl Ledford of Blacksburg, S.C.; three grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Bobby E. Dodgens.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will be at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home in Bessemer City from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Dot R. Woodson
MACON, Ga. - Mrs. Dot Rainey Woodson of Macon died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at a local hospital.
A native of Pine Bluff, Ark., she was the wife of Mr. Samuel Thomas Woodson, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Tom Rainey and Mrs. Myrtle Hopkins Rainey, both deceased. She had lived in Macon for the past 25 years. She was a former resident of Burlington and Graham, where she was active in the Parent-Teacher Association, the Women's Club and the Garden Club. She was a homemaker and attended the Congregational Christian Church.
Survivors other than her husband of Macon include three sons, Mr. Damon Woodson of Vidalia, Ga., Mr. Perry Woodson of Macon, and Mr. Sam Woodson of Rock Hill, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue, by Mr. Samuel Thomas Woodson III. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park cemetery in Pine Bluff, Ark., by the Rev. Allen Womack.
The family will be at Snow's Memorial Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Tony C. Ashby
FLORENCE, S.C. - Mr. Tony Clark Ashby, 57, of 1509 Old Wallace Gregg Road, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
A native of Burlington, he was the husband of Mrs. Patsy Annette Taylor Ashby, and the son of Major Snowden Ashby and Mrs. Lucy May Westbrooks Ashby, both deceased. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Timothy Clark Ashby of Florence and Mr. Tony Ashby Jr., of North Fort, Fla.; three daughters, Ms. Jennifer Annette Ashby of Florence, Mrs. Mark (Zena Ashby) Ward and Ms. Tammy Ashby Brock, both of Burlington; four brothers, Mr. Andrew Ashby of Burlington, Mr. Archie Ashby of Mebane, Mr. Earl Ashby of Haw River and Mr. Howard Ashby of Bass Mountain; a sister, Ms. Lucille Helms of Lancaster, S.C.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rehoboth Baptist Church.

LIBERTY - Mr. Larry Wayne Kimrey, 48, died Friday, March 27, 1998, in a Durham hospital.
He was a native of Alamance County.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Devonna Shumate of Burlington; five sisters, Mrs. Nellie Euliss, Mrs. Jean Smith and Mrs. Deborah Cheek, all of Snow Camp, and Mrs. Ann Forrester and Mrs. Betty Wrenn, both of Burlington; and three brothers, Mr. Hobart Kimrey of Gastonia, Mr. Hal Kimrey of Elon College and Mr. Jimmy Kimrey of Liberty.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty. Burial will be in Richland Church Cemetery.
Mr. Marvin W. Ferrell
GRAHAM - Mr. Marvin Wright Ferrell, 90, of 343 Baldwin Road, Apt. D-2-2, Burlington, died at 8:25 p.m. Monday, March 30, 1998, at his home after a critical illness of one week.
A native of Durham, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Ruth Miller Ferrell, and the son of Mr. James Elwood Ferrell and Mrs. Beulah Elizabeth Scoggins Ferrell, both deceased. He was the founder and retired president of Ferrell Hosiery. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Robert Wayne Ferrell of Houston and Mr. James Miller Ferrell of Graham; two sisters, Mrs. Louise F. Donavon of Richmond, Va., and Miss Naomi Ferrell of Winchester, Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Graham by the Rev. Paul Phillips, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Eldredge, minister of visitation. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Lawrence Sellars
BURLINGTON - Mr. Lawrence William Sellars, 69, of 3106 Rascoe-Dameron Road, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 1998, at his home after several months of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Milther Baynes Sellars, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Roy Sellars and Mrs. Eddie Viola Pinnix Sellars, both deceased. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of Jones' Cross Roads Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school member and a former trustee.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include five daughters, Miss Wanda L. Sellars of the home, Staff Sgt. Elaine S. Shelton of Killeen, Texas, Miss Valerie Denise Sellars of East Orange, N.J., Miss Ora LaVerne Sellars and Mrs. Darlene S. Washington, both of Newark, N.J.; two sons, Mr. William N. Sellars and Mr. Anthony Sellars, both of the home; a sister, Mrs. Bernice S. Miles of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Earl Sellars and Mr. James Sellars, both of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones' Cross Roads Baptist Church by the Rev. Howard L. Woods Sr., pastor. Burial will be in Sweet Gum Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Herbert P. Kaplan
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mr. Herbert Paul 'Sonny' Kaplan, 67, of 21 Forest Oaks Way, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Durham, he was the husband of Mrs. Lydia Moize Kaplan, who survives, and the son of Mr. Louis Kaplan and Mrs. Millie Messenger Kaplan, both deceased. He attended the University of North Carolina and was the former owner of Tanny's of Spartanburg and Sonny's in Durham and Henderson. He was a volunteer with Mobile Meals Service of Spartanburg. He was a member of Temple B'Nai Israel of Spartanburg and of the Beth El Synagogue of Durham.
Survivors other than his wife of the home, a former resident of Gibsonville, include two sons, Mr. Steven Kaplan of Jerusalem and Mr. Donald Kaplan of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Ms. Terry Kaplan of Manhattan, N.Y., and Ms. Lori Saltman of Brighton, Mass.; two sisters, Ms. Carol Sternberg of Manchester, N.H., and Ms. Geraldine Kaplan of Rockport, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at Temple B'Nai Israel by Rabbi Samuel Cohon. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Durham Hebrew Cemetery.

Mr. George G. Bonds
SALISBURY - Mr. George Gurley Bonds, 88, of 439 Eastwood Drive, died at 8:35 p.m. Monday, March 30, 1998, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury after five weeks of failing health.
Born June 26, 1909, in Cabarrus County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Helen Honeycutt Bonds, who died April 20, 1992, and the son of Mr. John E. A. Bonds and Mrs. Laura Holshouser Bonds, both deceased. He was educated in Cabarrus County Schools. He was employed by Burlington Industries in Burlington for 21 years before retiring in 1974. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ in Burlington, where he served on the Consistory, was a member of the Men's Bible Class and the Churchmen's Brotherhood. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Bobby R. Bonds of Lexington and Mr. John Edward Bonds of Kernersville; a daughter, Mrs. Sonny (Janie B.) Allen of the home; a brother, Mr. Harry L. Bonds of Salisbury; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jerry Leon Bonds.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church cemetery by the Rev. F. Michael Hooper, pastor of First United Church of Christ in Lexington.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will be at Summersett Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
