BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Campbell Graves, 81, of North Miami, Fla., formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Parkway Regional Medical Center in North Miami Beach, Fla.
Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
Mrs. Mary B. Humbert
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mary Blankinship Humbert, 83, of 779 Woody Drive, died at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of three weeks, five days critical. She was a former resident of 101 S. 10th St., Mebane.
A native of Bedford County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Calvert Hale Humbert Sr., and the daughter of Mr. Herman Blankinship and Mrs. Minnie McCraw Blankinship, both deceased. She was a retired school teacher. She was a member of the Emma Harris Garden Club and of Mebane Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Calvert Hale Humbert Jr., of Maxton, Mr. Leslie Frank Humbert of Vienna, W.Va., and Mr. William H. Humbert of Mebane; a sister, Mrs. Vernie Knight of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane by the Rev. Wyatt Aiken. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Mountain View cemetery in Clifton Forge, Va.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane this evening after the service.
Mrs. Norma Sylvester
MEBANE - Mrs. Norma Jean Sylvester, 75, of 706 Hunters Run, died at 6:33 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 1998, at Durham Regional Hospital.
Born July 30, 1922, in Iowa, she was the wife of Mr. Kermit Howard Sylvester, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. George Allen Shaffer and Mrs. Jenny Marie Shaffer, both deceased. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Sue Lynn Sharpe of Durham; two brothers, Mr. Deane L. Shaffer of Hartsville, S.C., and Mr. David Shaffer of Mankato, Minn.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Mebane by Dr. Terry Farmer and Dr. Lee Carter. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will be at the home from 7:30 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Juan C. Flores
BURLINGTON - Mr. Juan Carlos Robles Flores, 19, of 852 S. Main St., Apt. 11, died Monday, March 30, 1998, in a drowning accident.
A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, he was the son of Mr. Juan Pablo Robles and Mrs. Maria Jesus Flores. He was an employee of Gate City Temporaries.
Survivors other than his mother of Mebane and father of Mexico include one brother, Mr. Cesar Robles of Mexico; two sisters, Miss Maria Rosario Robles and Miss Erika Mayela Robles, both of Mexico; a stepbrother, Mr. Lucio Gutierres of Mebane; a stepsister, Miss Ema Lopez of Mebane; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Rosario Sanchez and Mrs. Raquel Placencia, both of Mexico.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Terence Pescatore, OFM Conv. Burial will be in Mexico.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Service in Burlington from 6 to 9 this evening.
Mr. Clarence Merricks
DANVILLE, Va. - Mr. Clarence Coleman Merricks, 80, of 2657 Sugar Tree Church Road, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at his home after 21/2 years failing health.
Born May 5, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he married
Mrs. Frances Susan Carter Merricks, who survives, on Sept. 16, 1938, and was the son of Mr. John Roy Merricks and Mrs. Ethel Riddle Merricks, both deceased. He lived his entire life in Danville. He retired after 43 years of service from Dan River Mills Inc., where he worked as a loom fixer in No. 1 B Weave, Schoolfield Division. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he served as a past deacon, Sunday school teacher and as a layman. He was a member of the Citizens of the Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Nancye M. Jones of Hilton Head, S.C., and Ms. Denise M. Hudson of Greenville; a son, Mr. Joseph Coleman 'J.C.' Merricks of Burlington; four sisters, Ms. Chaney M. Gray, Ms. Bernice M. Clayton and Ms. Betty M. Stokes, all of Danville, and Ms. Evelyn M. Davis of Pensacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Mozelle McKenzie, Ms. Mildred Shelton and Ms. Colleen Hancock; and a brother, Mr. Bill Merricks.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Ross L. Range Sr. and the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel from 7 to 8:30 Friday evening, and at other times at the home.
Ms. Sybil T. Forbes
AYDEN - Ms. Sybil Tripp Forbes, 76, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Ayden Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the Celia Hart Garris Auxiliary.
Survivors include a brother, Mr. Harold Tripp of Ayden; and three sisters, Ms. Lossie Tripp Stokes of Ayden, Ms. Frances Tripp Martin of Haw River and Ms. Beluah Tripp Allen of Greenville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Ayden Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ayden Cemetery.

Mr. Roger A. Herndon
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Mr. Roger Arnn Herndon, 73, of Pine Mountain, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at the Medical Center in Columbus, Ga.
Born March 19, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Mary McGee Herndon, who survives, and the son of Mr. Harvey Johnson Herndon and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Herndon, both deceased. He had lived in Pine Mountain for six years and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Columbus. During his retirement, he worked part time at the Day Butterfly Center of Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain.
Survivors other than his wife of Pine Mountain include two daughters, Ms. Vickie Herndon Isley of Burlington and Ms. Robin Herndon Williams of Columbus; a son, Mr. Roger Lee Herndon of Columbus; a sister, Ms. Elaine Satterfield of Danville, Va.; a brother, Mr. George Melvin Herndon of Winterville, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Danville Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Alvin Horne, pastor of Friendship United Methodist Church in Burlington.
The family will be at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel in Danville from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. John McGee and Mrs. Nancy McGee, 128 Dyerwood Place, Danville.

Mr. Joseph S. Pope
BURLINGTON - Mr. Joseph Sykes Pope, 52, of 4355 N.C. 49 South, died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after two months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Barbara Rogers Pope, who survives, and the son of Mr. Rainey Patrick Pope and Mrs. Eleanor Sykes 'Ellen' Pope, who both survive. He was an automobile body repair specialist and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the Association of Beach DJs and was a member of the Burlington Shag Club. He was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and parents of Burlington include two sons, Mr. Jacob H. 'Jake' Pope and Mr. Joshua R. 'Josh' Pope, both of the home; and a brother, Mr. Dwight E. Pope of Greenville, S.C.,
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Tim Robinson, pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of Mr. Marvin W. Graves, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Robert S. Campbell and Mrs. Rachel Welch Campbell, both deceased. She was formerly of Burlington and was a real estate salesperson.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Mary LaRue Lindberg of Miami Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Hall of Burlington and Mrs. Agnes Mercer of Greensboro; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington by the Rev. James Lee Hall and the Rev. Stephen K. Hall. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

BURLINGTON - Mr. John Thomas Long, 70, of 517 Sellars St., died Wednesday morning, April 1, 1998, at his home after an illness of several months.
A native of Caswell County, he was the son of Mr. Arthur Long and Mrs. Ollie L. Long, both deceased. He was a member of High Rock Baptist Church in Blanch.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Meggie Long Herbin of Burlington; and a brother, Mr. Archie Long of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in High Rock Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Mr. Woodrow Lindley
PITTSBORO - Mr. Woodrow Wilson Lindley, 85, of 1296 White Smith Road, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at Chatham Hospital.
A native of Chatham County, he was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Silk Hope Ruritan Club and was a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church, where he was a former member of the administrative board, a trustee and a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Rita L. Rogers of Smithfield, Va.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Way and the Rev. Ray Gooch. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City from 7 to 9 this evening.
