Mr. John W. Ward Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. John Walter Ward Sr., 91, of 922 Grace Ave., died at 2:25 p.m. Monday, April 13, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Edna Bingham Ward, and the son of Mr. Marion Lafayette Ward and Mrs. Mary Etta Byrd Ward, both deceased. He was a retired textile employee.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Susan Ward Sullivan of the home; two sons, Mr. John Walter Ward Jr. and Mr. Robert M. Ward, both of Burlington; five grandchildren; one step grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Miss Bertha Ward, Mrs. Dannar W. Bradley, Mrs. Lillie Buckner Everhart and Mrs. Mamie Ward Gwyn; and four brothers, Mr. Weaver Ward, Mr. Allen Ward, Mr. Laster Ward and Mr. Boyd Ward.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pine Hill cemetery by Dr. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 9:30 to 10:30 Thursday morning, and at other times at the home, and at the home of Mr. Robert M. Ward, 2205 Woodridge Court, Burlington.

Mrs. Gertrude Albright
HAW RIVER - Mrs. Gertrude Faucette Albright, 84, of 124 S. State St., died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1998, at White Oak Manor after three years of failing health, three days critical.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Henry Albright, and the daughter of Mr. William Thomas Faucette and Mrs. Sarah Moore Faucette, both deceased. She was a retired textile employee and was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Haw River.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Rita Shoe of Burlington; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. James Rosser, pastor of Haw River Christian Church.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of the daughter, 1056 Knollridge Road, Burlington.

Mr. James Hazel Jr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Garfield Hazel Jr., 60, of 1503 N.C. 49 North, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center, after a period of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Arlene Wilson Hazel, who survives, and the son of Mr. Garfield Hazel Sr. and Mrs. Annie Mebane Hazel Carter, both deceased. He was an employee of Roche Biomedical Company and he retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 26 years of service.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Reginald W. Hazel of Greensboro; and two daughters, Mrs. Deborah E. Kelly of LeMoore, Calif., and Mrs. Crystal D. Cooper of Duncanville, Texas.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Green Level United Church of Christ by the Rev. Coslow Holt. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Mr. Donald R. Burgess
WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Donald Russell Burgess, 60, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Born March 21, 1937, in Graham, he was the husband of Mrs. Arlene Branch Burgess, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Russell Burgess and Mrs. Ruby Lee Burgess, both deceased. He was a member of the Winston-Salem Rose Society, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Coonhunters Association. He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Burlington.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Craig (Donna) Cathey of Elon College and Mrs. Keith (Robyn) Griffin of Lake Charles, La.; a son, Mr. Donald Timothy Burgess of Iowa, La.; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Bette) Crouse of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. James Edward Burgess.
The funeral was conducted Feb. 22 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel in Winston-Salem. Burial was in Iowa, La.
Mrs. Frances W. Gray
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Ward Gray, 85, of White Oak Manor, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at her home.
She was the wife of the late Mr. Jack Danile Gray, and the daughter of Mr. William Franklin Ward and Mrs. Nettie Ann Tucker Ward, both deceased. She was a retired hosiery employee and was a Methodist.
There are no immediate survivors.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Graham Memorial Park by the Rev. R.E.L. Moser, Methodist minister.

Mrs. Mable Y. Rogers
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mable York Rogers, 74, formerly of 609 Melville St., died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields after several years of failing health.
A native of Randolph County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Howard Alex Rogers and the daughter of Mr. Nathan Brougton York and Mrs. Emma Pugh York, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mary Rudder of Graham, Mrs. Kay McCann of Mebane and Mrs. Dolly Hudson of Lilburn, Ga.; one son, Mr. Sam Rogers of Haw River; one sister, Mrs. Dessie Childress of Saxapahaw; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Fred Pugh, Mr. Sam York and Mr. Ross York.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Carlton Wilson. Burial will be in Concord United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 til 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Rudder, of 521 N. Melville St., Graham.
Mr. Walter W. Ellison
BURLINGTON - Mr. Walter William Ellison of 1010 Richmond Ave., died at 9:35 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 1998.
A native of Person County, he was the son of Mr. Samuel Ellison Sr. and Mrs. Lissie Moore Ellison, both deceased. He was a retired custodian with Burlington Industries and was a member of Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Laverne Carter of Greensboro; and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Lou Stanfield of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sweet Gum Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Cole, pastor of Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greensboro, and the Rev. Larry Covington, pastor of Ebenezer United Church of Christ. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church 30 minutes before the service. The body may be viewed at 3:30 p.m. today at Sharpe Funeral Home.
Mr. Clyde Gerringer
GRAHAM - Mr. Clyde Monroe Gerringer, 85, of 3648 Shady Grove Lane, died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro after two years of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Sarah Eanes Gerringer, and the son of Mr. William Thurman Gerringer and Mrs. Ernie Walls Gerringer, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Hyatt House Hotel in Winston-Salem and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Andrews of Snow Camp; a son, Mr. Shirley L. Gerringer of Graham; two sisters, including Mrs. Sally Murray of Ossipee; a brother, Mr. Harvey Gerringer of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Mr. Wayne Gerringer and Mr. Everette Gerringer; and four brothers, Mr. Clayton Gerringer, Mr. Charlie Gerringer, Mr. Clarence Gerringer and Mr. Floyd Gerringer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Jim Hobbs, pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 9 to 10:30 Thursday morning.

BURLINGTON - Mr. James Winfred 'Jim' Wheeler, 78, of 1314 Kenwood Drive, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at the Hospice Home of Burlington.

Mr. William Phillips
BURLINGTON - Mr. William Marion Phillips, 75, of Dogwood Rest Home, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Osborne Hughes Phillips and Mrs. Martha Jarrett Phillips, both deceased. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Phillips Cates and Mrs. Margaret Phillips Swaim and a brother Mr. Hobart Osborne Phillips.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Hill Cemetery, VA Section by the Rev. Jack Phillips, pastor of Zion Christian Church.

Mrs. Katherlene Meeks
SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Katherlene Williams Meeks, 82, of 2171 Quakenbush Road, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro after one year of failing health, 6 weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Morris M. Meeks and the daughter of Mr. Nurney Loftin Williams Sr. and Mrs. Ella Gerringer Williams, both deceased. She was homemaker, a member of Shallowford United Church of Christ and attended Victory Chapel Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gertie W. Luck of Franklinville and Mrs. Linda W. Sharpe of Liberty; three sons, Mr. Gene Williams of Altamahaw and Mr. N. John 'Buddy' Williams and Mr. Eugene Williams, both of Snow Camp; a brother, Mr. Nurney Loftin Williams Jr. of Altamahaw; a sister, Mrs. Brucie Leonard of Wake Forest; 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. John L. Williams and one grandson.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Johnston, pastor of Seagrove Trinity Wesleyan Church in Ashboro. Burial will be in Shallowford United Church of Christ Cemetery.
