Mr. Mack Allen
MEBANE - Mr. Mack Allen, 78, of 604 Lancaster Road, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Doris Pettiford Allen, who survives, and the son of Mr. Leamon Allen Sr. and Mrs. Fannie Pettiford Allen, both deceased. He was a farmer and worked at UNC Hospitals as a custodian before retiring.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Ms. Dorothy Allen Vanhooke; two sons, Mr. J.C. Allen of Burlington and Mr. Ira Edward Pettiford of Hillsborough; three sisters, Ms. Maggie Bragby of Roxboro, Ms. Ernestine Richmond of Durham and Ms. Doris A. Turntine of Timberlake; two brothers, Mr. Rosco Allen and Mr. Leamon Allen Jr., both of Timberlake; and three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Person Baptist Church by the Rev. W.L. Richardson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 Tuesday evening at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Luther Covington III
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Mr. Luther Covington III, 54, of Sacramento, died Friday, March 20, 1998, in Sacramento. He was a former resident of Graham.
He was the son of Mr. Luther Covington and Mrs. Beulah Covington, both deceased. He was a 1961 graduate of Graham High School. He served with the U.S. Air Force for nine years. He was employed with IBM for 27 years, where he was product manager of large systems for all of the Asiatic-Pacific countries and spent four years in Japan in this capacity. He retired in 1992 in Tampa, Fla.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Yvette) Sanders of Sacramento; and a grandchild.
Waymon's Chapel AME Church and the Class of 1961 of Graham High School will have a memorial service 3 p.m. Saturday at Waymon's Chapel AME Church in Graham. Elder Benjamin S. Foust of the Western North Carolina Conference of the AME Church, and the Rev. Allen Warren, pastor, will preside.

SALISBURY - Mrs. Margie Wilhelm Deal, 91, of 370 Buck Drive, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at her home.
Born April 7, 1907, in Rowan County, she married
Mr. Charlie Thomas 'Buck' Deal, who survives, Dec. 24, 1930. She was the daughter of Mr. Ernest Franklin Wilhelm and Mrs. Grace Darling Brown Wilhelm, both deceased. She was a homemaker and was educated in Rowan County. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Virginia Morgan Group of WELCA, the Sunday School Class No. 1, the Friendship Club, life member of the Auxiliary of Southern Theological Seminary and the St. Paul's Home Extension Club.
Survivors other than her husband include two sons, the Rev. Donald R. Deal of Mount Pleasant and Mr. Jimmie L. Deal of Salisbury; three daughters, Mrs. Max (Peggy) Hall of Burlington, Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Beaver of Salisbury and Mrs. Mark (Libby) McLean of Walhalla, S.C.; two brothers, Mr. Duke Wilhelm of Salisbury and Mr. Hoke Wilhelm of Rockwell; three sisters, Ms. Ruth Morgan and Ms. Kate Bost, both of China Grove, and Ms. Doris Derrick of Irmo, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by the Rev. William Ketchie. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove from 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Brenda C. Loy
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Brenda C. Loy, 55, of 231 Forest Drive, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, April 20, 1998, in Alamance County after several years of failing health, three weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Clara Morris Conner, who survives, and the late Mr. Elgia E. Conner. She was a telephone operator for Southern Bell, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her mother of Burlington include a son, Mr. Charles D. 'Chuck' Loy Jr. of the home; a brother, Mr. Keith Conner of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Jim Hobbs, pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, and Dr. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of the mother, 2707 Catherine Drive, Burlington.

PITTSBORO - Mr. E. Loy Thomas Sr., 80, of 1915 Pete Thomas Road, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at his home.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mozelle Clark Thomas, who died in 1993. He owned and operated E.L. Thomas & Sons Construction Company. He was a founding member of Silk Hope Ruritan Club. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Building Committee.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. E. Loy Thomas Jr. and Mr. Donnie Thomas, both of Pittsboro, and Mr. Joe Thomas of Snow Camp; two sisters, Ms. Mary Johnson and Ms. Lula Shaw, both of Pittsboro; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-step grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. Paul West and the Rev. Perry Hardison. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.

Mr. Walter A. Ward
SNOW CAMP - Mr. Walter A. 'Shorty' Ward of 3360 Tom Stevens Road, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Randolph County, he was the husband of Mrs. Martha Marshall Ward, who survives. He was an independent trucker and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Liberty American Legion Post No. 81.
Survivors other than his wife include three sisters, Ms. Rebecca MaGruder of Siler City, Ms. Gertrude Soderman of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Ms. Mary McAtee of New Berry Park, Calif.; and three brothers, Mr. Dennis Wesley Ward of Greensboro, Mr. William O. Ward of Ramseur and Mr. Robert E. Ward of Liberty.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Plainfield Friends Meeting by the Rev. Lee Lane. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

MEBANE - Mr. Lester Mosley, 69, of 2910 Calloway Drive, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Sandersville, Ga., he was the son of Mr. Richard Mosley and Mrs. Geneva Mosley, both deceased.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Franklin of Mebane.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sharpe Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Mebane Community Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.

ROXBORO - Mr. Ralph Henry Hamlett, 70, of Wilson, died Sunday, April 19, 1998.
A native of Caswell County, he was the son of Mr. Willie Henry Hamlett and Mrs. Sarah Fuquay Hamlett, both deceased. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include two brothers, Mr. R.C. Hamlett of Durham and Mr. Le Roy Hamlett of Burlington; four sisters, Ms. Lena Smith of Elon College, Ms. Mildred Rudd and Ms. Shirley McBroom, both of Mebane, and Ms. Barbara Ferguson of Durham.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks and White Chapel in Roxboro by the Rev. Genaves John Rigsbee.

YANCEYVILLE - Mr. John Edward Badgett, 65, of 1096 Hodges Dairy Road, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Virginia.
Born Oct. 19, 1932 in Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Nevoid Watlington Badgett, who survives, and the son of Mr. James Badgett and Mrs. Annie Palmer Badgett, both deceased. He was an employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he was a tire booker before he retired. He was a member of the Caswell Credit Union and was a Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts. He was a member of Blackwell Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a superintendent of Sunday school and sang in the male chorus.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Christopher Badgett of Yanceyville; a daughter, Mrs. Terri Mims Foster of Providence; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Jones of Dover, Del.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blackwell Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Dickerson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Blackwell Baptist Church from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.

MEBANE - Mrs. Ruth Poteat Connally of 61 Appletree Lane died at 1:19 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 1998, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mr. Tom Poteat and Mrs. Mollie Ann Poole Poteat, both deceased. She was a presser with Boston Cleaners and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she was an usher and a missionary.
Survivors include six sons, Mr. James Poteat of Greensboro, Mr. John Connally of Burlington, Mr. Perry Connally of Winston-Salem, Mr. Ricky Connally of Graham, Mr. Glenn Connally of Milton and Mr. Calvin Connally of Mebane; three daughters, Mrs. Liza Longshore of New Castle, Del., Mrs. Carol Williams of Browns Summit and Mrs. Mary Johnson of Yanceyville; three brothers, Mr. Walter Poteat of Mebane, Mr. James Poteat of Greensboro and Mr. Olean Poteat of Yanceyville; a sister, Ms. Mary Carver of Wilmington, Del.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
