Mrs. Ruth B. Brown
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ruth Law Bayliff Brown, 80, of 1614-E Morningside Drive, Woodridge Apartments, died at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, three weeks critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Watson Brown, and the daughter of Mr. John Henry Bayliff and Mrs. Lizzie Lineberry Bayliff, both deceased. She was a former government employee with Oakridge, Tenn., employed at Fairchild Plant in Burlington, Western Electric in Burlington, the Internal Revenue Service in Greensboro and a postmaster in Greensboro. She cared for and sat with the elderly. She attended Altamahaw Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Marlowe Cooper of Greensboro; two sons, Mr. Joseph Watson Brown of Greensboro and Mr. Mark W. Brown Sr. of Caswell; a sister, Ms. Maydell Winn of Altamahaw; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Julius 'June' Bayliff.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Chris Haizlip, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.
Mrs. Tazzie Shropshire
OXFORD - Mrs. Tazzie J. Shropshire of Brentwood Nursing Home died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at home.

Mr. Clayton McAlister
GRAHAM - Mr. Clayton Barney McAlister, 70, of 4310 Wildlife Lane, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after two years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Clayton Boham McAlister and Ms. Pauline Deal Clapp, both deceased. He was a retired textile employee.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Clinton Abe McAlister and Mr. Dale Powell McAlister, both of Graham; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Cliff United Methodist Church cemetery by Dr. James L. Bryan, pastor.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Clinton McAlister, 4404 Wildlife Lane, Graham.
Mrs. Christine Fairman
WHITSETT - Mrs. Christine Clapp Fairman, 69, of 515 Knauss Road, Bushkill Township, Northhampton County, Pa., died Sunday, April 26, 1998. She was a former resident of Walpack Center, Northport, N.Y.
A native of Whitsett, she was the wife of Mr. David B. Fairman, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Grady W. Clapp and Mrs. Annie W. Clapp, both deceased. She was a member of Emmanuels Lutheran Church in Bath, Pa. She was a member of the Women of the ELCA, received the 'Good Citizen of the Year in Northhampton County' Feb. 24, 1998, and was a volunteer with Gracedale, where she received a certificate for 3, 400 hours of service.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Winona McKinnon of Winnemucca, Nev., and Mrs. Wendy Fagan of Cranberry Township, Pa.; two sons, Mr. Kevin Fairman and Mr. Keith Fairman, both of Nazareth, Pa.; five sisters, Mrs. Doris Gilliam of Burlington, Mrs. Elsie Bonds of Lexington, Mrs. Billie Jean Weaver, Mrs. Annie June Reece and Miss Joan Clapp, all of Whitsett; a brother, Mr. Bruce Clapp of Whitsett; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brick United Church of Christ in Burlington.

Mrs. Eleanor O. Russell
NEWTON - Mrs. Eleanor Oakley Russell, 86, of Shuford Circle, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Abernethy Retirement Center.
Born March 16, 1912, in Wheatland, Calif., she was the wife of the late Mr. Edward Eugene Russell, and the daughter of Mr. A. George Oakley and Mrs. Harriet Leet Oakley, both deceased. She was an assistant administrator with Waymark Garden Retirement Center in Phoenix. She was a member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Rollin Russell of Burlington; a sister, Ms. Gladys Bever of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, the Rev. George Oakley of Sacramento, Calif; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday at Spirit Place at Abernethy Center.

Mrs. Tazzie Shropshire
OXFORD - Mrs. Tazzie Jones Shropshire, 81, of 103 Rabbit Run, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Brentwood Nursing Home in Oxford.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Raymond Webb Shropshire, and the daughter of Mr. Floyd Jones and Mrs. Busick Parrish Jones, both deceased. She was retired from Cone Mills and was a member of Baptist Temple of Alamance.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Becky Allen of Haw River; three sons, Mr. Wayne Shropshire of Oxford, Mr. Dennis Shropshire of Burlington and Mr. Bernice Shropshire of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Inez Wyatt of Haw River; a half sister, Mrs. Alva Hope Lloyd of Carrboro; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Flora White.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. Donald Carter, pastor of Baptist Temple. Burial will be in Haw River Cemetery.

Mr. Hazel Williams
SNOW CAMP - Mr. Hazel Williams, 82, of 8134 N.C. 87 South, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after several years of failing health, three days critical.
A native of Lafayette County, Fla., he was the husband of Mrs. Ellen Guthrie Williams, who survives, and the son of Mr. Albert Williams and Mrs. Macie Parker Williams, both deceased. He retired from Associated Transport after 39 years of service. He was a shop steward for local Teamsters for 25 years and was a member of Alamance Seniors' Golf Association. He was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Fred P. Williams of Graham and Mr. Chesley W. Williams of Snow Camp; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Leonard Williams.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Concord United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeanne Neal, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Steven L. Jordan
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. Steven L. Jordan, 48, of 782 Stoney Mountain Road, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Maureen M. Jordan, who survives, and the son of Mr. Linwood E. Jordan and Mrs. Peggy Comer Jordan, who both survive. He was an agent with Steve Jordan Nationwide Insurance Agency. He had a mariners captains license, was past officer and a member of the Coastal Conservation Association Piedmont Chapter and a member of the Piedmont Offshore Fishing Club. He was a member of Beverly Hills United Church of Christ.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and parents of Burlington include one daughter, Miss Jacqueline S. Jordan of Raleigh; and two brothers, Mr. Jack E. Jordan of Cedar Grove and Mr. Jay C. Jordan of Mooresville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Christopher P. Burr, pastor of Beverly Hills United Church of Christ, and Dr. Kenneth D. Register, retired pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Billy J. Scoggins
MCLEANSVILLE - Mr. Billy Joe Scoggins, 59, of 6004 McLeansville Road, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Born Oct. 14, 1938, in Guilford County, he married
Mrs. Helen Richmond, who survives, on Jan. 16, 1963. He was the son of Mr. Earlie Lee Harvell Sr., who survives, and the late Mrs. Blanche Scoggins Harvell. He was a lifelong resident of Guilford County. He had previously worked as an electrician for Cone Mills White Oak Plant and had worked part-time for Columbia Laundry. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Gibsonville include a daughter, Miss Suzanna 'Sissy' Scoggins of the home; three sons, Mr. Lawrence Tony Scoggins and Mr. Billy Lee Scoggins, both of Gibsonville, and Mr. Tracy Joe Scoggins of the home; three sisters, Ms. Nancy Worley and Ms. Linda Medley, both of Gibsonville, and Ms. Sylvia Gardner of Richmond, Va.; and six brothers, Mr. Tommy Scoggins of Burlington, Mr. Bobby Scoggins, Mr. Earlie Harvell Jr., Mr. Howard Harvell Sr., Mr. J.W. Harvell Sr. and Mr. George Harvell, all of Gibsonville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Tommy Scoggins and the Rev. Jack Lemons. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Raymond L. Worley
PELHAM - Mr. Raymond Lee Worley, 69, of 2395 Chandler's Mill Road, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Born May 24, 1928, in Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the husband for 50 years of Mrs. Evelyn Webster Worley who survives, and the son of Mr. Thomas B. Worley and Mrs. Annie Brown Worley, both deceased. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years' service. He pioneered work with railroad mail. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Ms. Linda W. Harlow of Pelham and Ms. Barbara W. VanDen Herrick of Burlington; one son, Mr. Raymond L. Worley Jr. of Danville, Va.; one sister, Ms. Ruby W. Ligon of Pelham; and 10 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Lively Stones Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Michael Kent.
The family will be at the home.

GRAHAM - Mr. Robert Alfonzo Watlington, 84, of 513 W. Market St., died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

GRAHAM - Mr. Robert Alfonzo Watlington, 84, 513 W. Market St., died at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center after a critical illness of three days.
A native of Sinclair, Ala., he was the husband of Mrs. Catherine Thompson Watlington, who survives, and the son of Mr. John Henderson Watlington and Mrs. Annie Mae Edmondson Watlington, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Cone Mills.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Evangeline Smith of Burlington and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Juanita Saunders; and two brothers, Mr. Johnnie A. Watlington and Mr. Raymond A. Watlington.
