Mr. John W. Page Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. John Wesley Page Sr., 57, of 319 Tryon St., died at 6:12 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Gloria Rudd Page, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Lee Page and Mrs. Ann Simpson Page, both deceased. He was retired from Lesona Corporation.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Miss Paula Page of Elon College; three sons, Mr. Wesley Allan Page and Mr. John Darren Page, both of Burlington, and Mr. John Wesley Page Jr. of the home; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Wallis Smith. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Mr. Charles W. Sims
BURLINGTON - Mr. Charles Wayne 'Poochie' Sims, 55, of 507 Flanner St., died Saturday evening, May 2, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Carolyn O'Neal Sims, and the son of Mrs. Alice King Sims, who survives, and the late Mr. James Sims. He was a former route salesperson with Todd Uniform. He became disabled in 1995.
Survivors other than his mother of Burlington include two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Sharon) Holt and Miss Lori Ann Sims, both of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Steven Allen Sims and Mr. Jerry Wayne Sims Sr., both of Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Pat Justice of Burlington; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Mr. Dustin Ross Holt and Mr. Donald Tyson Holt Jr.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Rich and Thompson Chapel by the Rev. Tommy Love, pastor of Wicker Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Doris W. Norris
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Doris Whitt Norris, 69, of 2210 Broadview Drive, died at 2:37 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Surry County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John Fairley Norris, and the daughter of Mr. Charlie W. Whitt and Mrs. Minnie Gravitt Whitt, both deceased. She was a member of Beverly Hills United Church of Christ and the Alma Lynch-Dot Register Circle.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mark (Vickie) Oakley of Matthews, Mrs. John (Gayle) Cheek of Graham and Mrs. Neil (Terrie) Ruocco of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. M.P. (Ila Mae) Hudson and Mrs. J.G. (Ruby) Longest Sr., both of Burlington; one brother, Mr. C.W. Whitt Jr. of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Jimmy R. Whitt; and a sister, Mrs. Cecil (Margarite) Gilmore.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beverly Hills United Church of Christ by Dr. Kenneth Register, former pastor of the church, and Dr. Chris Burr, pastor of the church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Joseph D. Barker
GRAHAM - Mr. Joseph Daniel 'Pete' Barker, 58, of 4973 Saxapahaw-Swepsonville Road, died at 10:39 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after 21/2 years of failing health.
He was the son of Mr. Harmon Barker and Mrs. Callie Anderson Barker, both deceased, and was a retired mechanic. He attended Living Waters Christian Community Church in Raleigh, and was a volunteer with Raleigh Rescue Mission where he taught computers.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Barker May of Hillsborough; one sister, Mrs. Geraldine Hill of Graham; three brothers, Mr. Emory Earl Barker of Burlington, Mr. William Franklin Barker of Mebane and Mr. Harmon Lee Barker Sr. of Graham; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 12:30 to 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Aubren L. Somers
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Aubren Leon Somers, 56, of 544 Somers Ave., died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home.
A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Edna Wilson Somers, and the son of Mr. Vance E. Somers and Mrs. Margaret Stanley Somers Anderson, both deceased. He lived in Caswell County all his life, and was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Co. after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Jerico Hunting Club.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Stacey Leon Somers of Beaufort; one stepson, Mr. Jeffrey 'Jeff' Boone of Reidsville; one stepdaughter, Ms. Felicia B. Sorrell of Greensboro; one brother, Mr. Harold Dean Somers of Reidsville; one grandchild; and three step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Tracey Lee Somers.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Ernest Sartin and Willie Graves. Burial will be in Camp Springs United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mr. Edward Hughes Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Edward A. 'Ed' Hughes Sr., 87, of 2152 Canterbury Drive, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a five-week illness.
A native of Hinton, W.Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Virginia C. Hughes, who survives, and the son of Mr. Edward E. Hughes and Mrs. Cora Hughes, both deceased. He was retired owner and operator of Hughes Oil Co. He was a Methodist. He was a Mason and a member of the Burlington Shrine Club; Greensboro Jaycees, serving as president in 1944; Burlington Elk's Lodge; and N.C. Oil Jobbers.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. Eddie Hughes of Wilson, Mr. Richard 'Dick' Hughes of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Mr. William 'Bill' Hughes of Burlington; four sisters, Mrs. Virginia Schoonover, Mrs. Mary Price, Mrs. Rebecca Matthews and Mrs. Elizabeth McCormick, all of Charleston, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. R.E.L. Moser, Methodist minister.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Roy Lee Dameron, 69, of 2730 Delaney Drive, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home.
A native of Wilson, he was the husband of Mrs. Nellie Hicks Dameron, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Lillie Collier Dameron, who survives, and the late Mr. Robert David Dameron. He was retired from Liberty Life Insurance Co. He was a member of Harvest Hills Church of God, where he taught Sunday school. He was a member of Gideons International, Burlington Christian Men's Association and Burlington Life Underwriters.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and his mother of Burlington include two daughters, Ms. Beverly Dameron of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Connie D. Crouch of Burlington; one son, Mr. Timothy L. 'Tim' Dameron of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Henry and Mrs. Geraldine Latta, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Pauline Chambers of Florence, S.C.; three brothers, Mr. Ronald Craig Dameron and Mr. Robert David Dameron Jr., both of Burlington, and Mr. Douglas Warren Dameron of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
A private service will be conducted at a later date by the Rev. Jerry Tow, pastor of Harvest Hills Church of God.

CHAPEL HILL - Mrs. Alice Lott Long, 69, of Chapel Hill Rehab, 1602 E. Franklin St., died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, at her home.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the wife of the late Mr. John Franklin Long Sr., and the daughter of Mr. Clarence Lott and Mrs. Marie Qudel Lott, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. John F. Long Jr. of Burlington and Mr. James Eldert Long of Snow Camp; and a sister, Mrs. Irene Groover of Dunedin, Fla.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum by the Rev. Howard Thompson, pastor of the Burlington Assembly of God.
There will be no visitation. The family will be at the home of Mr. James Eldert Long, 4422 Bass Mountain Road, Snow Camp.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Curtis Dale Sprague, 40, of 526 Overhill Drive, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham after six months of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Herbert W. Sprague and Mrs. Ruth Arrowood Sprague, who both survive. He was a carpenter with H.W. Sprague Construction Company and was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his parents of the home include a daughter, Miss Brandy Frances Sprague of Elon College; a sister, Mrs. Linda Rabon of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Gary Dale Sprague of Burlington; and maternal grandmother, Ms. Nina Arrowood of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Mr. Jake Arrowood, and paternal grandparents, Mr. John Sprague and Mrs. Ivey Sprague.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Lester Haney, pastor of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church.
