Mrs. Mable Gilmore
JULIAN - Mrs. Mable Mansfield Gilmore, 78, of 6625 Liberty Road, died Monday evening, May 11, 1998, at Pellcare Nursing Facility in Winston-Salem.
A native of Durham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Paul D. Gilmore Sr. She was the retired manager of the Liberty School Cafeteria. She was a member of Julian United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. David Gilmore of Julian; and a sister, Mrs. Janet Kester of Burlington.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Wesley A. Smith, 93, a resident of the Manor House of Irving Park in Greensboro, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Mrs. Nadine F. Moore
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Nadine F. Moore of 2314 Park Road Ext., died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of several weeks.
A native of Glen Raven, she was the wife of Mr. Charlie Moore, who survives, and the daughter of the Rev. Arrey R. Faucette and Mrs. Addie Brown Faucette, both deceased. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Glen Raven First Baptist Church, where she was treasurer, Sunday school treasurer, deaconess, member of the Senior Choir, Gospel Choir, Senior Missionary Circle and Women's Fellowship, and was a former 'Mother of the Church.'
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn H. Foust of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel E. Guye of Elon College, Mrs. Maggie F. Herbin of Glen Raven and Mrs. Ruth F. Brown of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glen Raven First Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Buddie L. Turner
PROSPECT HILL - Mr. Buddie Love Turner, 87, of Prospect Hill, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Danville Regional Hospital in Danville, Va.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Esther Kirby Turner, and the son of Mr. James Thornton Turner and Mrs. Lucy Eddie Walker Turner. He attended Prospect Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Ellis Turner of Baltimore, Mr. Jack E. Turner of Burlington and Mr. Lonzey H. Turner of Prospect Hill; three daughters, Ms. Louise T. Thurneysen of Vienna, Va., Ms. Addie T. Manuel of Fairfax, Va., and Ms. Linda T. Jenkins of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Arch Turner of Prospect Hill; a sister, Ms. Rosa T. Oakley of Whitsett; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prospect Hill Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Donald Smith. Burial will be in the Cooper Cemetery.

Ms. Nellie J. Younts
BURLINGTON - Ms. Nellie Frances Jackson Younts, 75, formerly of 507 Everett St., died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Skilled Nursing Division of Alamance Regional Medical Center after five years of failing health, five months critical.
A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mr. Fletcher Ivey Jackson and Mrs. Addie Terrell Jackson, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Raymond Younts of Durham; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Webster of Burlington and Mrs. Nannie Mae Johnson of Indiana; two brothers, Mr. Andrew Jackson and Mr. Dan Jackson, both of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Albert Jackson.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bruce Readling, pastor of Christian Bible Fellowship. Burial will be in the Kerr's Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. James Whitehead
BURLINGTON - Mr. James "Bud" Whitehead, 68, of 507 Everett St., Apt. 110, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at the Hospice Home.
A native of Chatham County, he was the son of Mrs. Cordia Moser Whitehead Pugh, who survives, and the late Mr. Henry Clay Whitehead. He was a retired hotel manager and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his mother include a daughter, Mrs. Linda Best of Tennessee; a son, Mr. Bill Whitehead of Massachusetts; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Brantley of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Lynn Whitehead of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
There will be no services.

Mrs. Rebecca S. Laws
GRAHAM - Mrs. Rebecca Shelton Laws, 51, of 135 Andrews St., died at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at her home.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Robert Keith Laws Sr., the daughter of Mr. James Andrew Shelton, who survives, and the late Mrs. Audrey Layne Shelton, and the stepdaughter of Mrs. Irene P. Shelton, who survives. She was an employee of Annedean Hosiery and attended Bible Wesleyan Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and father and stepmother of Burlington include a daughter, Mrs. Teresa Smith of Graham; a son, Mr. Keith Laws Jr. of Snow Camp; and a brother, Mr. Jerry Wayne Shelton of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Ricky Rose and the Rev. Dan Parker. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
Mr. Wesley A. Smith
GREENSBORO - Mr. Wesley A. Smith, 93, of Manor House of Irving Park - assisted living, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. He was formerly of Deep Creek Church Road, Burlington.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Lillie Lowe Smith, and the son of Mr. Alvis Smith and Mrs. Minnie Ginnie Gerringer Smith, both deceased. He was a tobacco farmer. He was a member of Apple's Chapel United Church of Christ and attended Deep Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Lillie Johnson, Mrs. Nannie Clapp, Mrs. Eather Andrews, Mrs. Flossie Clapp and Mrs. Doskey Smith; and two brothers, Mr. Weldon Smith and Mr. Les Smith.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. James Moon, pastor of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
Mr. Lawrence V. Raby
GRAHAM - Mr. Lawrence Vester Raby, 73, of 507 Everett St., died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after a critical illness of six months.
A native of Johnson County, Tenn., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Dorothy Ellen Brown Raby, and the son of Mr. Vester Christian Raby and Mrs. Molly Lee Raby, both deceased. He was a retired fishing guide and a truck driver. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. N.J. Raby of Deltona, Fla., and Mr. Danny Raby of Snow Camp; a brother, Mr. Ray Thomas Raby of Mebane; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Luceille Spell.
The funeral will be conducted at a later date in Deltona.

PITTSBORO - Mr. Julius Ceaser Alston Jr., 54, of 2900 U.S. 64 West, died Monday, May 11, 1998, at his home.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Linda Marie Alston, who survives, and the son of Ms. Fannie M. Alston, who survives. He was a member of St. Paul Lodge No. 147.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Hillsborough include two daughters, Mrs. Lakisha Ann Alston of Lauton, Okla., and Mrs. Lisa A. Edwards of Chapel Hill; a son, Mr. Jerry D. Alston Sr. of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Ms. Christine Marsh of Pittsboro, Ms. Jessie Mae White of Graham, Ms. Hilda Graves of Carrboro and Ms. Carolyn Alston of Chapel Hill; two brothers, Mr. Henry L. Alston and Mr. Leroy Alston, both of Raleigh; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Kenneth Brooks. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. LeRoy H. Wills
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. LeRoy Henry Wills, of 114 Martin St., died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after five months of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Vienton, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Marie Dunkley Wills, who survives, and the son of Mr. Joseph William Wills, who survives, and the late Mrs. Nellie Lawrence Wills. He was retired from Commercial-Levin in Elon College and was a U.S. Army veteran of the 81st Airborne Division. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elon College.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Salem, Va., include one daughter, Mrs. Anthony (Amy W.) Mabry of Mebane.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Betty Gardner.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Elon College by the Rev. Norman Harris, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Magnolia cemetery in Elon College.

Ms. Sarah Watlington
YANCEYVILLE - Ms. Sarah Brandon Watlington, 67, of 556 Hines Hatchett Road, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at the home of her son, Mr. Randy Durham, 463 Blanch Road, Blanch, after several months of failing health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of Mr. Allen Brandon and Mrs. Annie Snow Brandon, both deceased. She was a graduate of Murphy High School and worked for many years at Pope's Variety Store. She was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the W.M.U.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Barbara Barker of Hico Lake; two sons, Mr. Randy P. Durham of Blanch and Mr. Rudy Durham of Danville, Va.; a sister, Ms. Sallie Shelton of Danville; two brothers, Mr. Arnold Brandon of Hickory and Mr. Kie Brandon of Danville; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ephesus Baptist Church in Semora by the Rev. L.L. Watlington and the Rev. Doug Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Hooper Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 Monday evening, and at other times at the home of Mr. Randy Durham.
