Mrs. Mary S. Hall
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Sims Hall, 94, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, four weeks critical.
A native of Concord, she was the wife of the late Mr. Charles McKinley Hall Sr., and the daughter of Mr. Chalmers Lindley Sims and Mrs. Eliza Matilda Stafford Sims. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and was a member of the Church Circle.
Survivors include two sons, Mr. Charles M. Hall Jr. of Burlington and Mr. Dwight C. Hall of South Haven, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Liner of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Martha Booth of Dover, Del.; two brothers, Mr. Joe L. Sims of Harrisburg and Mr. Robert S. "Bob" Vaughn of Norwood; nine grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Frances Craven.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Skip Williams, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and Dr. Dan Bartel, pastor of Northside Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury.

Mr. Branch A. Isley
GRAHAM - Mr. Branch Alexander Isley, 84, of 1437 Watkins Road, died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of two days.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Louise Cook Isley, who survives, and the son of Mr. Alexander Riley Isley and Mrs. Josephine Cable Isley, both deceased. He was a retired farmer and attended Bellemont United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Martha I. Johnson of Graham; a son, Mr. Donald A. Isley of the home; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ollie Isley May.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Jeff Roberts, pastor of Bellemont United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mr. James Grizzle
MEBANE - Mr. James Peter "Jim" Grizzle, 57, of 200 N. Seventh St., died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 1998, at his home after five years of failing health.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Edna Hatch Grizzle, who survives, and the son of Mr. Estes Frank Grizzle and Mrs. Lillie Mae Wigley Grizzle, both deceased. He was the self-employed operator of Jim's Quick Mart in Mebane and was a Methodist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Deborah Conklin of Graham, Ms. Christy Grizzle and Ms. Stacey Grizzle, both of the home; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sheila Deaton of Snow Camp; two sons, Mr. Brian Grizzle and Mr. Paul Grizzle, both of Mebane; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Sellars of Hampton, Va.; two brothers, Mr. Frank Grizzle and Mr. Johnny Grizzle, both of Mebane; three grandchildren; and one step grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane.

FARMVILLE, Va. - Mr. Russell Bradford Baker, 25, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sharon J. Baker of Boydton, Va., formerly of Burlington, his parents, Mr. Rick Baker and Mrs. Vivian Baker of Louisa, Va., a sister, Ms. Jackie B. Harris of Boydton; a brother, Mr. Gary Cooper of Farmville; and grandparents, Mr. Bob Baker and Mrs. Sadie Baker of Richmond, Va.

ELON COLLEGE - Mr. James B. Patterson Jr., 33, of 3505 Shepherd Road, died Sunday morning, May 31, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham of injuries received in an automobile accident.A native of Watauga County, he was the husband of Mrs. Julie Phillips Patterson who survives, and the son of Mr. James B. Patterson Sr. and Mrs. Henrietta Bullock Patterson, who survive. He was a graduate of Western Alamance High School and received a degree in business management and marketing from Appalachian State University. He was employed at Shoffner
Industries and was a member of Indian Valley Men's Golf Association. Survivors other than his wife of the home and his parents of Burlington include one daughter, Miss Jessica 'Jessie' Amber Patterson of the home; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Essie Mae Patterson of Reidsville; and maternal grandparents, Mr. Henry Bullock and Mrs. Thelma Bullock of Kannapolis. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mr. Walter Everette Patterson. MOORESVILLE - Mr. James Fredrick 'Fred' Wright, 61, of Mooresville, died
Saturday, May 30, 1998. Born Aug. 1, 1936, in Burlington, he was the husband of Mrs. Faye Pearce Wright who survives, and the son of Mrs. Annie Johnson Wright who survives and
the late Mr. James H. Wright. He was a 34-year employee with Burlington Industries, and had been a Human Resources Manager for the past 18 years at the Denim Plant in Mooresville. He previously worked for Burlington Industries in Greenville, S.C., Fayetteville, Burlington, Gastonia, Erwin and Caroleen. He attended Elon College, served in the U.S. Air Force Military Police, was a Korean War veteran and graduated from East Carolina University in 1963 where
he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was a member of the Forest City
Lions Club, the Mooresville Rotary Club and the Mooresville Personnel Association, serving as president and on the Board of Directors at each. He was past president of Junior Achievement and served on the Mooresville/South Iredell Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was a member of Mooresville First Presbyterian Church where he served as past president of the men of the church and as deacon. Survivors other than his wife and his mother include two daughters, Ms. Jamie Elizabeth Wright of Charlotte and Ms. Jennifer Wright Peoples of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother, Mr. Thomas Donald Wright of Graham; and a sister, Ms. Annette Wright McAdams of Halifax, Va. Mrs. Pansy Hightower
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Pansy Pennington Hightower, 88, of Hawfields Presbyterian Home, died at 10:22 p.m. Friday, May 29, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after three years of failing health, four days critical. She was formerly of North Main Street.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. William L. 'Bill' Hightower and the daughter of Mr. Robert Daniel Pennington and Mrs. Mary Catherine 'Molly' Phillips Pennington, both deceased. She was a former timekeeper for McEwen Hosiery. She retired from Sellars Department Store where she had worked in the Ladies Ready to Wear Department. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington on Broad Street where she was a former secretary of the WMU, past secretary of the Preschool Department after more than 20 years of service, and was a homebound member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Robinelle Pennington and Mrs. Nadine Boring; and three brothers, Mr. Carlos Pennington, Mr. Gurney Pennington and Mr. Robert E. Pennington. BURLINGTON - Mrs. Frances Elizabeth 'Fannie' Hudson, 89, of 2804 Blanche Drive, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Alamance Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 31, 1909 in Tatum, S.C., she was the daughter of Mr. George Walter Smith and Mrs. Lucy Jane Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith. Survivors include a son, Mr. John Marvin Hudson of Greensboro; a stepdaughter, Ms. Dorothy H. King of the home; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Terry N. Blackmon
BURLINGTON - Mr. Terry Nelson Blackmon, 52, of 2931 Blanche Drive, died at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 1998, at UNC Hospitals after a brief illness. A native of Elbert County, Ga., he was the husband of Mrs. Carlette Moore Blackmon who survives, and the son of Mr. George Norman Blackmon and Mrs. Irene Rick Blackmon, both deceased. He was an engineer with Parsons International, formerly an engineer with Bell South for 26 years. He taught science at Williams High School from 1967 to 1971. Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Christopher Keigh Blackmon and Mr. Derrick Carl Blackmon, both of Raleigh; one brother, Mr. Mike Blackmon of Belton, S.C.; and a sister, Mrs. Trudy Jones of Asheboro. The funeral will be conducted at 6 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor of Bethlehem Christian Church. GRAHAM - Mr. Charlie William Parrish, 71, a resident of Health Care Center of Alamance, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a long illness. He was a native of Alamance County. Burrus and Burrus Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Mozell Atwater, 5321 Salem Church Road, Saxapahaw Community, Graham.
Mrs. Viola T. Baynes
MEBANE - Mrs. Viola Teal Baynes, 100, of 243 Alan Baynes Road, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Allen Baynes, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Teal and Mrs. Jane Florence Teal, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Belview Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Thomas Baynes of Charlotte, Mr. Samuel Baynes of Burlington and Mr. Melvin Baynes of Greensboro; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Crisp of Homestead, N.Y., Mrs. Nellie Burton of Burlington, Mrs. Iola Alston of Mebane and Mrs. Ruby Willis of Green Level; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Belview Baptist Church by the Rev. Alex Turner, pastor, and the Rev. J.E. Davis, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mebane. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. J. Howard Walters
GRAHAM - Mr. J. Howard Walters, 75, of 523 E. Pine St., died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of one day.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Sybil Blackmon Walters, who survives, and the son of Mr. Richard D. Walters and Mrs. Lola Herring Walters, both deceased. He was retired from hosiery manufacturing and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was former member and past president of the Graham Civitan Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham, the United Methodist Men, the Men's Sunday Morning Breakfast Club, and former member of the Administrative Board of the Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Tommy Darrell Walters of Graham and Mr. Michael Dean Walters of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Claudia W. Foushee of Chapel Hill; three brothers, Mr. Clarence M. Walters, Mr. John C. Walters, both of Chapel Hill, and Mr. R. Floyd Walters of Lorica, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Duane "Gropup" Walters; two sisters, Mrs. Alene W. Jones and Mrs. Eleanor Walters; and a brother, Mr. Tommy Walters.

BURLINGTON - Mr. Ervin Wallace Cates, 48, of 1118 Dixie St., died Monday, June 1, 1998, at his home after nine weeks of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Doll Stockton Cates who survives, and the son of Mrs. Martha Stamey Cates who survives and the late Mr. Luther Cates. He was employed at Guilford Mills in Greensboro. He was a member of Vicker's Memorial Baptist Church, a member of The Aliene and Alamance Gospel Boys.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and his mother of Burlington include one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Parrish of the home; a son, Mr. Robert Ray Parrish Jr. of the home; and a half brother, Mr. Jimmy Cates of Ossipee.

WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. James Travis Flowers, 80, of 2750 Pilgrim Court, died at 8:12 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Blumenthal Jewish Home after a long illness.
A native of Sanford, he was the husband of Mrs. Louise Bonin Varner Flowers, who survives, and the late Mrs. Catherine Willett Flowers. He was the son of Mr. James Travis Flowers and Mrs. Catherine Webster Flowers, both deceased. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and Rico Suction. He attended Elon College. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. He attended Front Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Prayer Breakfast.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter Mrs. Steven (Julia Marie) Cazel of Greensboro; three sons, Mr. Travis John Flowers of Gibsonville, Mr. Philip William Flowers of Mebane and Mr. David Charles Flowers of Welcome; a stepson, Mr. James Lester Varner of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Amelia) Phillips of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Roland T. Barnhardt, pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Helen S. Papadis
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Helen Stroggilis Papadis, 73, of 255 Cart Drive, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Marathia, Evrytania, Greece, she was the wife of the late Mr. James George Papadis, and the daughter of Mrs. Ourania Dallas Stroggilis, who survives, and the late Mr. Philip Stroggilis. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Spartanburg where she was a member of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Survivors other than her mother of the home include three daughters, Ms. Bessie Papadis of the home, Ms. Mary Koutroulias of Spartanburg and Ms. Christina Liapis of Burlington; two sons, Mr. George J. Papadis of Burlington and Mr. Philip J. Papadis of Spartanburg; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. George F. Nayfa and the Rev. Tom Pistolis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
