Mr. Robert H. Holland

MEBANE - Mr. Robert Hulon Holland, 65, of 6406 U.S. 70, died at 2:43 a.m. Monday, June 8, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after an illness of eight months.

A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of Mrs. Marie Sykes Holland, who survives, and the son of Mrs. Irma Harris Cantrell, who survives, and the late Mr. Joe Holland. He was a retired employee of AT&T and was employed with Hawkins Realty and Associates Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a Baptist.

Survivors other than his wife of the home and mother of Graham include two sons, Mr. Bobby R. Holland of Charlotte and Mr. Todd Holland of Graham; two stepsons, Mr. Eddie Green of Mebane and Mr. Marty Green of Graham; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Mebane by the Rev. Douglas Ludlam, pastor. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 523 N. Charles St., Mebane, N.C. 27302; or to a charity of choice.

Mr. Bertram A. West

GRAHAM - Mr. Bertram Adrian "Bert" West, 79, of Box 51, Swepsonville, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance after two years of failing health, four weeks critical.

A native of Stanley County, he was the husband of Mrs. Leona "Esther" Keene West, who survives, and the son of Mr. Roy B. West and Mrs. Addie Lowder West, both deceased. He was retired from Copland Fabrics and was a Baptist.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include two stepdaughters, Mrs. Betty Crigger of Mavisvale, Va., and Mrs. Loretta "Jean" Cleghorn of Jasper, Ga.; a stepson, Mr. Robert "Bob" Keene of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Ruth) Webb of Burlington; seven step grandchildren; and several great-step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Ms. Phyllis R. Johnson; and three brothers, Mr. John West, Mr. Joe West and Mr. Lamar West.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Howard Thompson, pastor of Burlington Assembly of God. Burial will be in Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1236 Huffman Mill Road, Suite 1050, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Mr. Norman Perkins

BURLINGTON - Mr. Norman Samuel Perkins, 73, of 2157 S. Gurney St., died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after one year of failing health, 15 days critical.

A native of Durham, he was the husband of Mrs. Clara Beal Perkins, who survives, and the son of the Rev. Norman Nesbitt Perkins and Mrs. Emily Dodd Perkins, both deceased. He retired after 37 years of service with Kroger Grocery Stores in Greensboro and was the Union Representative for employees. He attended Elon College and was a member of the Alamance Seniors Golf Association. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and took a part in the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Webb Avenue United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include four sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Willis, Mrs. Esther Capes, Mrs. Martha Jackson and Mrs. Mary Daly, all of Burlington.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Piedmont Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1795, Burlington, N.C. 27216.

Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Michael P. Bulger

BURLINGTON - Mr. Michael Patrick Bulger, 48, of 1212 Queen Ann St., died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a critical illness of one week.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Mr. Michael James Bulger and Mrs. Catherine Foley Bulger, both deceased. He was a security officer for Darwood Management Inc. in New York City. He was a member of Burlington Moose Lodge and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Quigley of Pearl River, N.Y., and Mrs. Catherine M. Bonk of Stoney Creek.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Carlton Wilson.

Mrs. Mozelle Dawson

McLEANSVILLE - Mrs. Mozelle Thomas Dawson, 89, of 5824 Carmon Road, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Moses Cone Extended Care Center.

Born Oct. 26, 1908, in Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James Dawson, and the daughter of Mr. John Thomas and Mrs. Bertha May Thomas, both deceased. She was a life member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. James (Fannie) Clark of Burlington, Mrs. Luther (Bertha) Brame and Mrs. Larry (Frances) Batten, both of Greensboro, Ms. Louise Newell of McLeansville and Mrs. Phillip (Mary) Stokes of Gibsonville; six sons, Mr. Herman Dawson of Mechanicsville, Va., Mr. Roy Dawson of Whitsett, Mr. Staley Dawson and Mr. Howard Dawson, both of Gibsonville, and Mr. John Dawson and Mr. Raymond Dawson, both of McLeansville, 27 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethel Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Otis Davis, the Rev. Lucius Gray and the Rev. Ralph Webb. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 300 Knox Road, McLeansville, N.C. 27301.

Mrs. Mary H. May

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hall Hamilton May, 90, a resident of Jefferson Family Care Home in Yanceyville, died at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health. She was a former resident of 1303 Greenwood Drive. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Ernest Dewey Hamilton, and the daughter of Mr. Charles Lawrence Hall Sr. and Mrs. Artelia Skeens Hall, both deceased. She was retired from Plaid Mills and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lula Mae Whitman and Mrs. Mary Seay Massey, both of Burlington; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ms. Stella Robina Summers, Ms. Emma Ruffin Alcon and Ms. Elvie Cleveland Hall; three brothers, Mr. Robert Earl Hall, Mr. Clyde Monroe Hall and Mr. Charles Lawrence Hall Jr. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry McCarty, pastor of Baynes Baptist Church, the Rev. Charles Lawrence Seay Jr., associate pastor of the Raleigh Nazarene First Church and the Rev. Powell Sykes, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Lula Mae Whitman, 1303 Greenwood Drive, Burlington.

Mr. Raymond D. Boggs

BURLINGTON - Mr. Raymond Douglas 'Eight-Ball' Boggs, 54, of 1752 Dixon Pool Road, Lot 16, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health, one week critical. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Cossie Friddle Boggs, who survives, and the son of Mr. Gurney Boggs and Mrs. Grace Christopher Boggs, both deceased. He worked in textiles and was a Baptist. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a son, Mr. Claude Douglas O'Hagan of Henderson; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Berry of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Jean Graves of Mebane, Mrs. Patricia Rhodes of Richmond, Va., and Mrs. Betty Martin of Gibsonville; a brother, Mr. Earl Boggs of Snow Camp; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Jack Boggs. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Paul Morton, pastor of Gibsonville Christian Church, and the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O. Box 2122, Burlington, N.C. 27216-2122.

Mrs. Margaret Collins

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Mrs. Margaret Roberts Collins, 48, of Bethel Housing, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at the Johnson City Medical Center after a short illness. She was formerly of Burlington. A native of Washington County, Tenn., she was the wife of Mr. Otha Collins, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Roy L. Roberts Sr. and Mrs. Jane Carter Roberts, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the John M. Reed Nursing Home. She attended worship services at Bethel Housing. Survivors other than her husband of the home include a stepson, Mr. Mike Collins of Jonesborough; a stepdaughter, Ms. Gloria Styles of Leesburg, Tenn.; four brothers, Mr. Jack Roberts of Limestone, Tenn., Mr. Roy L. Roberts Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn., Mr. Arthur Roberts of North Manchester, Ind., and Mr. Clifton Roberts of Telford, Tenn.; three sisters, Ms. Montie Mashburn of Johnson City, Ms. Becky Compton of Gross City, Ohio, and Ms. Janie Roberts of Telford; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Griffin and the Rev. Paul Broyles. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Maple Lawn cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other time at the home at Bethel Housing and at the home of Mr. Jack Roberts, 581 Telford School Road, Telford.

Mrs. Nell D. Caviness

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Nell David Caviness, 68, of 154 Farmbrooke Lane, Winston-Salem, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Carl A. Caviness, who survives, and the daughter of Mrs. Nell F. Clayton, who survives, and the late Mr. Colon T. Farrell. She was retired from AT&T and was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. Survivors other than her husband of the home and mother of Swepsonville, include three sisters, Mrs. James (Wanda) Owen of Elon College, Mrs. Robert (Vickie) Sykes of Burlington and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Roberts of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Ted Farrell of Mebane; and a stepfather, Mr. Ralph Clayton of Swepsonville. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Curtis Whaley, pastor of Rosemont Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home of Mrs. James Owen, 706 S. Williamson Ave., Elon College.

Mrs. Kathryn Braden

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Kathryn Sawyer Braden, 73, of 1613 N.W. 11th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, in Ft. Lauderdale. A native of Edenton, she was the wife of Mr. Verne 'Skip' Braden, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Miles Sawyer and Mrs. Nora Catherine Sawyer, both deceased. She was co-owner of The Engraving Place in Ft. Lauderdale. She was a member of Motor Maids and the Gold Wing Riders Association. Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. John E. (Cheryl) Walker Jr. of Gibsonville and Mrs. Carole H. Cox of Ft. Lauderdale; a son, Mr. Joel 'Jay' J. Huffman of Margate, Fla.; a brother, Mr. John Sawyer of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Irene S. Wallace and Mrs. Madolyn S. Grubb, both of Burlington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Luena Diane Huffman; three brothers, Mr. Ted Sawyer, Mr. Mike Sawyer and Mr. Frank Sawyer; and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle S. Miller. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brookwood Baptist Church by Dr. Garry Baldwin, pastor. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Cheryl Walker, 313 Pine St., Gibsonville. Mrs. Daisy H. Page

GRAHAM - Mrs. Daisy Mae Haithcock Page, 55, of 6649 Whitney Road, died at 9:12 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after several years of failing health, two weeks critical. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Frank Sidney Page, and the daughter of Mr. Thomas Milan Haithcock and Mrs. Lina Smith Haithcock, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Moore's Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Miss Shelia Page of Chapel Hill and Ms. Sherri Page of Wilmington; a son, Mr. John Frank Page of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Mary McPherson of Burlington and Mrs. Janie Cates of Saxapahaw; two brothers, Mr. William Thomas Haithcock of Saxapahaw and Mr. Johnny Haithcock of Burlington; and five grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moore's Chapel Cemetery. The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Sylvia D. Crisp

HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Sylva D. Crisp, 57, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Born Sept. 22, 1940, in Durham County, she was the wife of Mr. Daniel Crisp, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Willie Major Fuller and Mrs. Liza Wade Fuller, both deceased. Survivors other than her husband of Hillsborough include a daughter, Ms. Larshanda Crisp of the home; a brother, Mr. Laranger Fuller of Burlington; and two sistrs, Mrs. John (Lucy) Latta and Ms. Rosa Cates, both of Hillsborough. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Warren's Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. James Brown, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Chavis-Parker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 this evening.
