Miss Julia B. Schronce
GRAHAM - Miss Julia B. Schronce, 83, formerly of 205 Thompson Road, died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Ashbury Care Center in Charlotte after one year of failing health, three weeks critical.
A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Mr. Charley D. Schronce and Mrs. Caroline Abernathy Schronce, both deceased. She retired from Wesley Nursing Center in Charlotte after 33 years of service. She was a Presbyterian Hospital Alumnae of the 1938 class, a member of the American Nurses Association and the N.C. Nurses Association. She was a member of Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church in Charlotte and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Graham.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Canady and Mrs. Sarah Stout, both of Graham.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Storey; and four brothers, Mr. Burl Schronce, Mr. Charlie Schronce, Mr. Blane Schronce and Mr. Clint Schronce.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. Ralph E. Jones Jr., pastor emeritus. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Dr. Peter S. Scott
BURLINGTON - Dr. Peter Somers Scott, 73, of 5270 Union Ridge Road, died at 6 a.m. Monday, June 22, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Reyna D'Ecima Scott, who survives, and the late Mrs. Pamela Thompson Scott. He was the son of Dr. S. Floyd Scott and Mrs. Frances Somers Scott, both deceased. He was a physician with his father and brother for 41 years at Scott Clinic. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Louisville Medical School. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and was captain of the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps. He was a member of Union Ridge United Church of Christ.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Susan S. Cunning of Lewisville, Mrs. Valerie S. Woodard of Four Oaks and Ms. Cynthia 'Mimi' Scott of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Mr. Michael T. Scott of Little Rock, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Ms. Tina Ayers of Roanoke, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Ora Lee Scott Brady of Sparta; two brothers, Dr. Ludwig G. Scott and Dr. Samuel E. Scott, both of Burlington; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Johnny Scott.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Union Ridge United Church of Christ by the Rev. Phil Hardy, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the Fellowship Hall of Union Ridge United Church of Christ from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Scott.

Mrs. Alice K. Neese
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Alice King Neese, 79, of 443 Cook Road, Elon College, died at 8:47 a.m. Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after 11/2 years of failing health, five days critical. A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Mr. Leroy H. Neese, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. John Walter King and Mrs. Nannie Walker King, both deceased. She formerly worked as a teacher in the Alamance and Caswell county school systems and at Burlington Day School. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of First Reformed Church of Christ, and she was involved in Christian education throughout her life. Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Neese Jones of Tabor City and twin daughters Mrs. Janet Neese Smith of Greensboro and Mrs. Annette Neese Bothwell of Raleigh; a son, Mr. John B. Neese of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Frances King Albright of Burlington; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Verna S. King and Mrs. Elizabeth King Satterfield. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Reformed Church of Christ by the Rev. Phillip Myers. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will be at Rich & Thompson Mortuary from 6:30 until 8:30 this evening, in the fellowship hall of the church until 12:15 p.m. following the funeral service and at other times at the home. Mr. Arthur Lipscomb
BLANCH - Mr. Arthur 'Archie' Lipscomb, 77, of 4405 N.C. 62 North, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at his home. A native of Caswell County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Frances A. Williamson Lipscomb and the son of Mr. John Henry Lipscomb and Mrs. Gracie Jeffries Lipscomb, both deceased. He was a self employed tobacco farmer in the Blanch community. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Hamer Baptist Church, where he was an usher and served on the trustee board. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ammie Jane Johnson, Mrs. Ardelia Mitchell and Mrs. Katie L. Williams, all of Blanch. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hamer Baptist Church by the Rev. Cephus Lea. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 Tuesday night at Fulton Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Mr. J. Robert Wilson
BURLINGTON - Mr. James Robert Wilson, 85, of 313 Trail Eight, died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after four years of failing health, one week critical. A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Willie Jackson Wilson, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Whitsett and Mrs. Mary Brown Wilson, both deceased. He was retired from Western Electric after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Pioneers with Western Electric and Mebane Presbyterian Church. Survivors other than his wife of the home include one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Marie) Freeman of the home; two sisters, Ms. Kathleen W. Lee of Graham and Ms. Virginia Edwards of Mebane; a brother, Mr. Thomas A. Wilson of Mebane; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Edgar Wilson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Graham Memorial Park by the Rev. Charles R. Lemley, retired minister. The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until the service. Mrs. Hallie H. Gordon
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Hallie Wayne Hornaday Gordon, 83, of Cooper Hall, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and formerly of Dogwood Lane, Burlington, died Sunday morning, June 21, 1998, at her home after a long illness. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Staley P. Gordon and the daughter of Mrs. Flavius Durant Hornaday and Mrs. Nancy McPherson Hornaday, both deceased. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. R.C. (Susan) Lewis Jr. and Ms. Susan Gordon Sheffield, both of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Hornaday Riggs of Hawfields; and a brother, Mr. Russell M. Hornaday of Snow Camp. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Gordon Sheffield; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hornaday Graham; and a brother, Mr. Flavius Durant Hornaday Jr. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Pine Hill cemetery by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Burlington. Mr. Albert E. Lillard
RUFFIN - Mr. Albert Edward 'Buddy' Lillard, 64, of 10261 Park Springs Road, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center Skilled Care Division. A lifelong resident of Caswell County, he was the wife of Mrs. Nell Hardy Lillard, who survives, and the son of Mr. Edward Wharton and Mrs. Leonie McKinney Lillard. He was a retired farmer, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion Post No. 89, Caswell Brotherhood Masonic Lodge No. 11 AF&AM, and Bethesda Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder, superintendent of the Sunday school and a former choir member. He served as the former fire chief of Caswell Volunteer Fire Department and was the founder of the little league baseball program at Dove's Crossroads. Survivors other than his wife of the home include one son, Mr. Erle Scott Lillard of Ruffin; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Teresa Lillard McKinney; and a sister, Ms. Annie Laurie Hodges. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Reid Dalton III, the Rev. Ares Davidian, and the Rev. Cleveland Duke. Ms. Amy Mebane
GRAHAM - Ms. Amy Mebane of Cates Circle died June 11, 1998. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Mr. Jess Mebane and Mrs. Catherine Shaw Mebane, both deceased. She was a retired cafeteria manager for Alamance County Schools and a member of First Baptist Church in Graham, where she was a member of the choir, organist and pianist. She was an accompanist for Bellvue Baptist Church for a number of years. The funeral service will be conducted at noon Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Graham. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park. She is survived by a cousin. Sharpe Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Viola T. Baynes
MEBANE - Mrs. Viola Teal Baynes, 100, of 243 Alan Baynes Road, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Allen Baynes, and the daughter of Mr. Robert Teal and Mrs. Jane Florence Teal, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Belview Baptist Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Thomas Baynes of Charlotte, Mr. Samuel Baynes of Burlington and Mr. Melvin Baynes of Greensboro; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Crisp of Homestead, N.Y., Mrs. Nellie Burton of Burlington, Mrs. Iola Alston of Mebane and Mrs. Ruby Willis of Green Level; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Belview Baptist Church by the Rev. Alex Turner, pastor, and the Rev. J.E. Davis, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mebane. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Mr. J. Howard Walters
GRAHAM - Mr. J. Howard Walters, 75, of 523 E. Pine St., died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of one day.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Sybil Blackmon Walters, who survives, and the son of Mr. Richard D. Walters and Mrs. Lola Herring Walters, both deceased. He was retired from hosiery manufacturing and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was former member and past president of the Graham Civitan Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Graham, the United Methodist Men, the Men's Sunday Morning Breakfast Club, and former member of the Administrative Board of the Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Tommy Darrell Walters of Graham and Mr. Michael Dean Walters of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Claudia W. Foushee of Chapel Hill; three brothers, Mr. Clarence M. Walters, Mr. John C. Walters, both of Chapel Hill, and Mr. R. Floyd Walters of Lorica, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Duane "Gropup" Walters; two sisters, Mrs. Alene W. Jones and Mrs. Eleanor Walters; and a brother, Mr. Tommy Walters.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Graham by the Rev. Paul Phillips, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Eldredge, minister of Visitation. Burial will be in Graham Memorial Park.
Mr. Ervin W. Cates
BURLINGTON - Mr. Ervin Wallace Cates, 48, of 1118 Dixie St., died Monday, June 1, 1998, at his home after nine weeks of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Doll Stockton Cates who survives, and the son of Mrs. Martha Stamey Cates who survives and the late Mr. Luther Cates. He was employed at Guilford Mills in Greensboro. He was a member of Vicker's Memorial Baptist Church, a member of The Aliene and Alamance Gospel Boys.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and his mother of Burlington include one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Parrish of the home; a son, Mr. Robert Ray Parrish Jr. of the home; and a half brother, Mr. Jimmy Cates of Ossipee.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. John Skenes, pastor of Vicker's Memorial Baptist Church, and the Rev. Odell McBride. Burial will be in Vicker's Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
