Mrs. Tonya C. Kimrey
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Tonya Lynn Cox Kimrey, 45, of 5321 Rascoe Dameron Road, died at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after an illness of one year, two days critical.
Born Aug. 21, 1952, in Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Gregory Kimrey, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Oby Cox, who survives and the late Mrs. Annie Susan Powell Cox. She was a homemaker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane.
Survivors other than her husband of the home and father of Burlington include a daughter, Miss Sabrina Kimrey of the home; and a sister, Ms. Pat Cathey of Graham.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Eastside Baptist Church in Mebane by the Rev. Chuck Perkins and the Rev. Perry Cross. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of her sister, Ms. Pat Cathey, 1854 Alco St., Graham.

Mrs. Viola B. Johnson
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Viola Bigelow Johnson, 82, of 142 Old Bigelow Road, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 13, 1915, in Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Mr. George Waymond Johnson and the daughter of Mr. Eddie Bigelow and Mrs. Cora Sellars Bigelow, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Burton Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Joe Johnson of Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Jerry Johnson of Roxboro and Mr. Larry Johnson of Yanceyville; six daughters, Ms. Janie Johnson, Ms. Annie Johnson, Ms. Rosa Johnson, Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Ms. Gwendolyn Taylor, all of Manhattan, N.Y., and Mrs. Louise Apson of Bronx; two brothers, the Rev. Graham Bigelow of Newark, N.J. and Mr. James Bigelow of Mebane; a sister, Mrs. Ressie Jefferson of Newark; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Burton Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Boswell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Fulton Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Friday evening and at other times at the home.
Mr. Richard Paschal
REIDSVILLE - Mr. Richard Mills Paschal, 94, of 9618 U.S. 158, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at Maplewood Nursing Center.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Martha Witty Paschal who died in 1986 and the son of Mr. David L. Paschal and Mrs. Annie Tate Paschal, both deceased. He lived in the Monroeton Community most of his life. He was a retired farmer and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Becky Paschal of the home; a son, Mr. Richard Ernest Paschal of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Roy Paschal of Reidsville; two sisters, Ms. Onie P. Isley and Ms. Ruby P. Hammock, both of Reidsville; and two grandchildren.
City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements which are incomplete.
Mrs. Lacala P. Oakes
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lacala Patterson Oakes, 58, of 6236 Pagetown Road, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at her home after three years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Robert Loren Oakes, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Sam Holt and Mrs. Nanny Lou Thomasson Patterson, both deceased. She was a 1957 graduate of Altamahaw-Ossipee School and a 1961 graduate of Elon College, where she was a member of Delta Epsilon Kappa. She taught at J.F. Webb High School in Granville County, where she was a basketball coach. She taught at Western Middle School for 12 years, where she was the athletics director, softball and volleyball coach, and was Teacher of the Year. The Lacala Oakes Athletic Leadership Award was named in her honor. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Alan (Samra) Bailey of Graham and Mrs. Brian (Robbyn) Harper of Gibsonville; a sister, Ms. Gayle Efird of Burlington; and a brother, Mr. Thomas R. Patterson of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother, Mr. Leighton H. Patterson.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Mrs. Deloris B. Horner
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Deloris Bookout Horner, 86, formerly of Melody Lane, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at Alamance Health Care Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Hubert Anderson Horner and the daughter of Mr. Colt Bookout and Mrs. Mary Hardin Bookout, both deceased.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Bruce L. 'Bob' Roark of Burlington; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Don Swinney, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 12:30 to 1:30 Thursday afternoon and at other times at the home of the son, Mr. Bob Roark, 616 Engleman Ave., Burlington.

Mrs. Alice W. Gray
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Alice Whitaker Gray, 74, of 135 Lunsford Drive, died at 5:38 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a critical illness of several days.
A native of Wake County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Leonard Gray Sr. and the daughter of Mr. Walter Whitaker and Mrs. Frances Turner Whitaker, both deceased. She was a member of New Covenant United Holy Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Mae Frances Whitaker of Greensboro, Mrs. Geraldine McLean of Graham, Ms. Lisa Gray and Mrs. Linda Jackson of Burlington; five sons, Mr. Leonard Gray Jr. of Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Billy Whitaker of Washington, D.C., Mr. Michael Gray, Mr. Richard Gray and Mr. Leroy Gray, all of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Willa Williams of Raleigh; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jackie Clyburn.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Covenant United Holy Church by Bishop Harry L. Cohen, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Hargett and Bryant Funeral Home from 6 to 7 this evening and at other times at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geraldine McLean, 402 E. Gilbreath St., Graham.
Mr. Lawrence Gilchrist
WHITSETT - Mr. Lawrence Gilchrist, 56, of 941 Boone Valley Road, died Friday evening, Oct. 10, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Mullens, S.C., he was the husband of Mrs. Helen Burnette Gilchrist, who survives, and the son of Mr. Hezzekiah Gilchrist and Mrs. Nora Nelson Gilchrist, both deceased.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. William Wilbert Turner of Burlington and Mr. Robert Lewis Burnette Gilchrist of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Shirley Reaves, Ms. Linda Gilchrist and Ms. Ella N. Gilchrist, all of Jersey City, N.J.; three brothers, Mr. James P. Gilchrist and Mr. John Lee Gilchrist, both of Burlington, and Mr. Sammy Gilchrist of Newark, N.J.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Loretta Ingram and two brothers, Mr. Ernest Gilchrist and Mr. Raymond Gilchrist.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in North Lawn cemetery by the Rev. W.J. Holt.
There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Alice L. Simmons
GRAHAM - Mrs. Alice Louise Simmons, 99, of 208 Stone Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at White Oak Manor after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Augusta Simmons and the daughter of Mr. Joseph Foust and Mrs. Kiziah Morrow Foust, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Maxwell Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she was a class leader and a member of the Senior Choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alice Adell Compton of the home; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth 'Polly' Parson.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Maxwell Chapel A.M.E. Church by the Rev. Paul Rigsbee, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Farr-Morr cemetery in Saxapahaw.
The family will be at Maxwell Chapel A.M.E. Church 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Lucille S. Woods
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lucille F. Sorrell Woods, 84, of White Oak Manor, formerly of Main Street in Haw River, died at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at her home after several years of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lawrence Sorrell and the late Mr. Cecil S. Woods. She was the daughter of Mr. Sterling Taylor Foster and Mrs. Esther Storey Foster, both deceased. She was a nurse for Dr. A.J. Ellington and was a retired registered nurse as visiting nurse for Western Electric in 1977. She was a member of The Retired Nurses Association and First Baptist Church of Haw River.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Betty Coble of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Tracy L. Foster, Mr. William E. Foster and Mr. Harris Foster; and four sisters, Ms. Myrtle Thompson, Ms. Blanche May, Ms. Joy Belle Rice and Ms. Ollie Jordan.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Richard G. Poindexter, pastor of First Baptist Church of Haw River. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home of her niece, Ms. Shirley Marley, 3139 Alamance Road, Burlington.
