Mrs. Lillie A. Booth
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lillie Atwater Booth of Springview Care Homes, 209 E. Sixth St., died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Eddie W. Booth and the daughter of Mr. Guilford Atwater and Mrs. Jeanette Baldwin Atwater, both deceased. She was a member of Terrells Creek Baptist Church and was a choir member.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Terrells Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Wright, pastor, and the Rev. T.J. Foster. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the church one hour before the service.

Mr. Richard Cates
GRAHAM - Mr. Richard Caswell Cates, 74, 2369 Swepsonville Road, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at his home after two years of failing health.
A native of Port Eustis, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Freeze Cates, who survives, and the son of Mr. Frank G. Cates and Mrs. Annie Jacks Cates, both deceased. He was retired from Western Electric and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Turner of Burlington; two sons, Mr. Alan Cates of Graham and Mr. Steven Cates of Burlington; and four brothers, Mr. Charles E. Cates and Mr. Lee Cates, both of Burlington, Mr. Grant Cates of Graham and Mr. Bill Cates of Sevierville, Tenn.

Mrs. Edna L. Branham
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Edna Pauline Lambert Branham, 66, of 1909 Tucker St., died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at her home after several months of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Sullivan County, Tenn., she was the wife of the late Mr. Arnold Doyle Branham Jr. and the daughter of Mr. John Lambert and Mrs. Julia May Ramey Lambert, both deceased. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Karen B. Evans of Burlington and Mrs. Michelle R. Steele of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Michael L. Branham of Liberty and Mr. Joel Jeffrey Branham of Burlington; three sisters, Mrs. Arlena Lynch of Charlotte, Mrs. Estelle Perry of Burlington and Miss Imogene Lambert of Kernersville; a brother, Mr. Kyle Lambert of Florida; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Stephen Dwayne Branham.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Hill cemetery by the Rev. Howard Thompson and the Rev. Benny Maning.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Mr. Ira D. Braxton
GRAHAM - Mr. Ira Delaven Braxton, 81, of 5906 Snow Camp Road, died at 11:52 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Edna Gray Foust Braxton, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Isham Braxton and Mrs. Sallie Jane Jones Braxton, both deceased. He was a retired cabinet maker for Holt Lumber Co. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. William (Becky) Stout and Mrs. John (Judy) Braxton, both of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Avis Johnson of Graham; three brothers, Mr. Robert Braxton of Graham, Mr. Winfield Braxton of Chapel Hill and Mr. Calvin Braxton of Snow Camp; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Rose Conner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Benjamin Harrison
JULIAN - Mr. Benjamin F. Harrison, 95, of 6132 Phillipi Road, died Wednesday night, Sept. 16, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
He was the husband of the late Mrs. Mildred Dailey Harrison. He was a farmer. A lifetime member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge, he had served as a chaplain in the Masonic Lodge for a long time. He was an active member of Pleasant Union United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Lola Leigh H. Johnson of Rocky Mount; a son, Mr. Edmond G. Harrison of Burlington; a sister, Ms. Lydia H. Pugh of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Mr. Celus G. Harrison Sr. of Chesapeake; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five great-step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Bertie H. Foster.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dave Cash, pastor. Burial will be in Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

Mrs. Maggie S. Stewart
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Maggie Marie Stutts Stewart, 70, of 530 Queen Ann St., died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical center after an illness of two weeks.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Rubert Sylvester Stewart and the daughter of Mr. Ansel Stutts and Mrs. Nannie Carroll Stutts, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Ida Stewart) Hutcherson of Burlington and Mrs. Wayne (Blanche) Tranbarger of Mebane; three sons, Mr. Everette Stewart, Mr. Jesse Stewart, and Mr. Rubert “Sam” Stewart, all of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Ronnie (Martha) Long of Haw River; two brothers, Mr. Roger Stutts of Burlington and Mr. Henry Stutts of Gibsonville; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at People’s Church in Mebane by the Rev. James Christopher, pastor, and the Rev. Bennie Smith, pastor of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Lassiter
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Margaret Lindley Lassiter, 73, of 2218 Burch Bridge Road, died at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at her home after a long illness, one month critical.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Alfred David “A.D.” Lassiter Jr. and the daughter of Mr. Willie Vernon Lindley and Mrs. Verona Isley Lindley, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Ms. Linda Mann of Burlington; a son, Mr. David V. Lassiter Sr. of Burlington; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. George M. “Jack” Phillips, pastor of Zion Christian Church; the Rev. Mr. Earl B. Johnson
BURLINGTON - Mr. Earl Bates Johnson, 63, of 2707 Spanish Oak Hill Road, died in September 1998 at his home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Norman Bates Johnson and Mrs. Joy Bell Coble Johnson, both deceased. He was a farmer and attended Andrews Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Mr. Roscoe L. Johnson of Kernersville and Mr. Lewis D. Johnson of Winston-Salem.
A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Graham Memorial Park by Dr. Tommy Willis, pastor of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Goley D. Graves
MEBANE - Mr. Goley Dempsey Graves, 77, of 706 Vance St., died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Elnora Oliver Graves and the son of Mr. Goley Graves Sr. and Mrs. Gertrude Harrelson Graves, both deceased. He was a brick mason.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include four daughters, Mrs. Cecelia Graves Shaw and Ms. Eleanor J. Graves, both of Greensboro, Mrs. Harlece Graves Jeffries of Burlington and Ms. Cheryl Yvette Graves of Hickory; four sons, Mr. Gregory A. Graves of Albrightville, Pa., Mr. Stephen D. Graves of Greensboro, Mr. Rodney Hugh Graves of Fort Bragg and Mr. Mitchell Lorne Graves of the home; five sisters, Mrs. Mary P. Williamson of Mebane, Mrs. Montese G. Packenham of Graham, Mrs. Gertrude G. Morgan and Mrs. Jeune G. Paylor, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Pollye G. Bailey of Winston-Salem; and a brother, Mr. Harold T. Graves of Mebane.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Elsie A. Graves, and a brother, Mr. Mack Cletus Graves.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Church by the Rev. Larry McDonald, pastor. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Mebane Community Cemetery.

Mr. Rexel O. Bennett
WHITE OAK, W.Va. - Mr. Rexel O. Bennett, 79, of White Oak, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
Born June 17, 1919, in Mount View, W.Va., he was the husband for 58 years of Mrs. Anna Belle Pack Bennett, who survives, and the son of Mr. Oliver S. Bennett and Mrs. Caldonia Mae Vest Bennett, both deceased. He was retired from L.W. Hamilton’s Pratt Mining Co. at Kingston, W.Va., as a heavy equipment operator with 46 years of service in the coal industry. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and First Baptist Church, Shady Springs, W.Va.
Survivors other than his wife include a daughter, Mrs. Rexanne Miles of Graham; three sons, Mr. Steven K. Bennett of Jumping Branch, W.Va., Mr. Randall K. Bennett of Shady Springs and Mr. Jonathan K. Bennett of Charles Town, W.Va.; three sisters, Ms. Eula Stanley of Mount View, Ms. Wanda Kirk of Jumping Branch and Ms. Wilda McComas of Marmet, W.Va.; a brother, Mr. Ronald Bennett of Mountain View; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ms. Opal Grose and Ms. Ola McCutcheon; and four brothers, Mr. Roy Bennett, Mr. Ray Bennett, Mr. Reo Bennett and Mr. Roscoe Bennett.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Shady Spring, by Mr. Joe Pizzino and Mr. Delvin D. Elwell Jr., pastors. Burial will be in Crews cemetery at Nimitz, W.Va.

BURLINGTON - Mr. George Calvin Burch, 72, of 2509 McKinney St., died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham after several years of failing health.
A native of Rockingham County, he was the husband of the Mrs. Doris Christine Mottern Burch and the son of Mr. Jon Coleman Burch and Mrs. Annie May Williams Burch, both deceased. He was the retired owner of Burch Fabrics, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Donna Burch of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Burch Storey and Mrs. Grace Burch Fuqua, both of Burlington; one brother, Mr. Bernice Burch of Christianburg, Va.; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Burch Underwood and Mrs. Bertelle Burch Foster, and two brothers, Mr. John Burch and Mr. Paul Burch.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Jim Hobbs, pastor of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
