Mrs. Mae T. Dickey
HILLSBOROUGH - Mrs. Mae Trimm Dickey, 85, of 3821 Mincey Road, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Orange County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John Henry Dickey and the daughter of Mr. John Trimm and Mrs. Julia Tate Trimm, both deceased. She was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Willie (Sudie) Wynn of Hillsborough and Ms. Betsy Miller of Durham; a son, Mr. John E. Dickey of Hillsborough; two sisters, Ms. Mable Sumner of Mebane and Ms. Mary Ruth Harris, both of Cedar Grove; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Robert Trimm.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mars Hill Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Curtis Tyler and the Rev. Ralph Harrell.
The family will be at Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough from 7 to 9 this evening.
Mrs. Wilma L. Langley
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Wilma Loy Langley, of 215 N. Logan St., died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after 10 months of failing health. She was a former resident of Dixie Sreet, Burlington.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. James William Langley and the daughter of Mr. George Loy and Mrs. Bettie Hensley Wilson Loy Whitt, both deceased. She was retired from Lemco Hosiery, was a member of the Salvation Army, and was active in Kettle Collections.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Jerry Langley of Burlington; a half brother, Mr. Francis Whitt of Graham; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Robert Loy and Mr. Samuel Loy; and two half-brothers, Mr. Frank Whitt and Mr. Joe Wilson.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Salvation Army by Maj. Terry Edwards, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army; Major George Congelton, retired officer with the Salvation Army, and Major Dorothy Congelton, retired officer with the Salvation Army. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 this evening
Mrs. Mary Ann Leath
ELON COLLEGE - Mrs. Mary Ann Mebane Leath, 82, of 3164 Leath Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at White Oak Manor in Burlington after a short illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Freeman Leath and the daughter of Mr. Baxter Mebane and Mrs. Jessie Vaughn Mebane, both deceased. She was a line server with A.R.A. Food Services, Elon College. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, where she was an usher, member of the Missionary Circle and was Mother of the Church.
Survivors include six sons, Mr. Harold Leath, Mr. Larry Leath, Mr. Mack Leath and Mr. Donald Leath, all of Burlington, Mr. Norman Leath of Houston and Mr. Roger Leath of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Lovey Swann of Glen Raven and Mrs. Willys Johns of Danville, Va.; a brother, Mr. Thomas Baxter Mebane of Glen Raven; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Gibsonville by the Rev. Eugene Gant, pastor, and the Rev. Donald Leath. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Sharpe Memorial Chapel from 7 to 8 this evening, and at other times at 1722 Sandy Cross Road, Burlington.
Mrs. Gladys G. Miller
DURHAM - Mrs. Gladys Bell Goodnight Miller, 90, of Meadowbrook Manor, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Duke University Medical Center. She was a former resident of Wiley Avenue, Salisbury.
Born Sept. 10, 1907, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of Mr. Caleb Ransom Goodnight and Mrs. Essie Sink Goodnight, both deceased. She was a bookkeeper and office manager for Nehi Beverage Co. for 27 years before retiring in 1972. She was educated in Cabarrus County schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury, where she was a life member of the Women of the Church, a treasurer, and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a teacher at the church kindergarten.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Paul R. (Sylvia) Hoffner of Gibsonville; a son, Mr. A. Phillip Miller of Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Millie Walters and Mrs. James (Mary Lois) Conner, both of Kannapolis; two brothers, Mr. Ralph Goodnight and Mr. J.C. Goodnight, both of Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and a great-granchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. todayat First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James H. Foil Jr., associate minister. Burial will be 1:30 p.m. in City Memorial Park in Salisbury.
The family will be at the church following the service.

Mr. P.K. Rainey Sr.
BURLINGTON - Mr. Paul King “P.K” Rainey Sr., 63, of 4060 N.C. 62 North, died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham after three weeks of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband for 40 years of Mrs. Ruth Moore Rainey, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert W. “Bob” Rainey and Mrs. Annie King Rainey, both deceased. He was employed with Duke Power for 30 years and was a truck driver for Mebane Shrubbery. He was co-owner with his wife of the McCray Rest Home and the McCray Mini Mart and Grill. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Haw River Christian Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. Paul K. Rainey Jr. and Mr. Ricky L. Rainey, both of Burlington; five sisters, Mrs. James (Polly) Dixon, Mrs. Wilma Brooks Hurdle, Mrs. Mary Lou Bolick and Mrs. Melvin (Beatrice) Walker, all of Burlington, and Mrs. Milton (Dot) Harcum of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five brothers, Mr. Robert W. Rainey Jr., Mr. John Mack Rainey, Mr. H. Dean Rainey, Mr. Charlie E. “Red” Rainey and Mr. Dewey L. Rainey, all of Burlington; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Haw River Christian Church by the Rev. James L. Rosser, the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Phil Hardy. Burial will be in McCray Cemetery.

Mrs. Jean Bowsher-Frankenberg
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Jean Louise Hewitt Bowsher-Frankenberg, 88, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Twin Lakes Center in Burlington.
Born in 1909 in Cincinnati, she was the wife of Mr. Robert O. Bowsher, who died in 1982, and the late Mr. Thomas Frankenberg. She was a homemaker and active volunteer. She was a graduate of Women’s College of Greensboro (The University of North Carolina at Greensboro). She lived in many places, including Washington, D.C.; Ormond Beach, Fla.; and North Carolina. She was a missionary in Cuba, worked in a settlement house in Washington, D.C., and was employed at the Department of Agriculture. While living in Burlington, she volunteered many hours with Family Abuse Services and received the Individual Human Services Award from Alamance County and the Outstanding Volunteer Award from Burlington. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.
Survivors other than her husband include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Bowsher Friedman of Longmeadow, Mass.; a sister, Ms. Margaret Martin of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at the chapel at Twin Lakes Center, 100 Wade Coble Drive, Burlington.

Mrs. Inez M. McPherson
GRAHAM - Mrs. Inez Marlette McPherson, 74, of 3615 Brundage Lane, died at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a critical illness of one day.
A native of West End, she was the wife of the late Mr. Oliver Roscoe McPherson Jr. and the daughter of Mr. William Henry Marlette and Mrs. Maud Brown Marlette, both deceased. She was retired from AT&T and was a member of the AT&T Pioneers. She was a life member of the First United Methodist Church of Graham.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Frances M. Holland of Mebane and Mrs. Melinda M. Johns of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Thompson and Mrs. Opal Snipes, both of Graham; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Graham by the Rev. Paul Phillips, pastor.
The family will be in the church parlor one hour before the service and at other times at the home.

Mr. Dewey R. Barber
ROANOKE, Va. - Mr. Dewey R. “Mike” Barber, 72, of Roanoke, died at 6:02 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Va., after several months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Thomas DeWitt Barber and Mrs. Mable Blanchard Barber, both deceased. He was a retired truck driver with Roadway Express and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Burlington Elks Club and a former member of the Shallow Ford United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William Nathan (Mickey) Allen of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. William L. (Patsy) Finley of Cedar Grove; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Donna Lynn Barber, and a brother, Mr. William Lawrence Barber.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shallow Ford United Church of Christ cemetery by the Rev. Don Overman, pastor of Victory Worship Center.

MEBANE - Mr. Flemmie Thomas Childress, 85, of 408 S. Third St., died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after one year of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lorene Smith Childress, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jasper Childress and Mrs. Martha Monday Childress, both deceased. He was a retired self-employed carpenter and a former employee of Cone Mills. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dianne) Flynn of Mebane; two sons, Mr. Franklin Childress of Mebane and Mr. Chester Childress of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Paul Childress and Mr. John Childress, both of Danbury; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Baptist Church by Mr. Larry Cheek, interim pastor, and Dr. Terry Farmer, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mebane. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemtery.

Mr. William A. Partin
BURLINGTON - Mr. William A. “Bill” Partin, 75, of 1928 McKinney St., died at noon Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after several months of failing health.
A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Jean Ledlie Partin, who survives, and the son of Mr. Robert L. Partin and Mrs. Lela Tripp Partin, both deceased. He was retired from AT&T and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres. He was a member of Lowe Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include five daughters, Mrs. Beverly A. Slaughter of Whigham, Ga., Ms. Jeanette G. McHone of Burlington, Ms. Teresa Partin of the home, Mrs. Heidi Hiers of Hillsborough and Ms. Wendy Sawyer of Carrboro; a son, Mr. William Shaun Partin of Liberty; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Gindlesberger. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
