Mrs. D. Jean Taylor
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Dorothy Jean Taylor, 71, of 809 Trail One, died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at Hospice Home after six months of failing health.
A native of Ashford, Ala., she was the wife of the late Mr. Hugh Taylor and the daughter of Mr. Bud Hall and Mrs. Thelma Herrington Hall, both deceased. She was a member of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Bill Taylor of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Marcellus Womack of Marcella, Ala.; four brothers, Mr. William C. Hall of Stone Mountain, Ga., Mr. Brannon K. Hall of Dothan, Ala., and Mr. Horace D. Hall and Mr. Robert N. Hall, both of Ashford; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Robert Gary Taylor.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lester Haney, pastor of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church.
The family will be at the funeral home following the service and at other times at the home.

Mr. Charlie Salmons
ELON COLLEGE - Mr. Charlie Eugene Salmons, 64, of 631 Manning Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a year of failing health.
A native of Statesville, he was the husband of Mrs. Lizzie Ellen Nichols Salmons, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charlie Monroe Salmons and Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Cook Salmons, both deceased. He was a retired brick mason for Proffitt Masonry and Stone. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a Baptist.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Roseanna Lockemy Yancey of Greensboro, Mrs. Janice Lockemy Albertson of California and Mrs. Debbie Salmons Hinshaw of Elon College; a sister, Mrs. Betty Sue Stallings of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Tommy Salmons of Michigan; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bible Baptist Church by Dr. Tommy Richardson, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
There will be no visitation. The family will be at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Debbie Hinshaw, 563 Manning Ave., Elon College.

Ms. Martha J. Cobb
McLEANSVILLE - Ms. Martha Jane Howard Cobb, 73, of 5454 Timber Mill Road, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Spartanburg County, S.C., she was the wife of Mr. Charles Edward Cobb, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. William Jefferson Howard and Mrs. Beatrice Adams Howard, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Friedens Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the choir for many years, taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school treasurer.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Bonnie) Loy of Gibsonville and Mrs. Tommy (Diana) Black of McLeansville; a son, Mr. Gary Cobb of McLeansville, a sister, Mrs. Ann Setzer of Mount Pleasant; and a brother, Mr. Earl Howard of Angier.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Marie Barber; a brother, Mr. Frank Howard; a grandchild; and a step grandchild.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Friedens Lutheran Church by the Rev. Richard A. Rhoades, pastor, and the Rev. Henry Reece, retired.
The family will in the fellowship hall of the church after the service.

Mrs. Junnie P. Madren
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Junnie Annie Pollard Madren, 80, of Lexington and formerly of Gibsonville died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Harnett County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Lester Earnest Madren Sr. and the daughter of Mr. Orris Malone Pollard and Mrs. Nellie Elina Dupree Pollard, both deceased. She was retired from Copeland Fabric and a member of Friedens Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Brent (July) Black of Lexington and Mrs. Roy (Patricia) McKoy of Maple Hill; a sister, Mrs. Ada Ellis of Clayton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Lester Earnest Madren Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Friedens Lutheran Church by the Rev. Richard A. Rhoades, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Bartlett Funeral Home in Gibsonville from 6 to 8 this evening.
Mrs. Pearl M. Michael
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Pearl Eva Moore Michael, 78, of 412 Hatch St., died at noon Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at White Oak Manor after a long illness.
A native of Person County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Joseph Michael and the daughter of Mr. Will Moore and Mrs. Selena Pettiford Moore, both deceased. She was a domestic and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 705 and Clover Garden A.M.E. Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Ella Michael of Burlington and Miss Mary Len Michael of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Mr. John Michael of Burlington and Mr. Larry Michael of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Mrs. Betty Harvey of Burlington; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

MEBANE - Mrs. Peggie Denkins Warren Bryant, 69, of 102 Briarwood Court, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at her home after two years of failing health, four months critical.

Mr. Charles Tingen
BURLINGTON - Mr. Charles W. Tingen, 67, of 2539 Carolina Road, died Saturday morning at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro after two years of failing health, two weeks critical.
A native of Burlington, he was the son of Mr. Aubrey Tate Tingen and Mrs. Louise Whitfield Tingen, both deceased. He was retired as an administrator with the trucking industry with more than 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a Presbyterian.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Charles 'Chuckie' Tingen of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Ms. Eurcell Tingen and Ms. Linda Tingen, both of the home; a brother, Mr. Bobby Tingen of Burlington; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rich and Thompson Funeral Chapel in Burlington. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening and at other times at the home of the brother, Mr. Bobby Tingen, 612 Georgia Ave., Burlington.
Ms. Gladys Tyndall
RICHMOND, Va. - Ms. Gladys Ivey Tyndall of Richmond and formerly of Burlington died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Jackie Holmes Darr of Richmond; two sons, Mr. Kenneth Lea and Mr. Dalton Tyndall; a sister, Ms. Doris I. Tedder; a brother, Mr. John A. Ivey; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, in Richmond. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ephland
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elizabeth Pamplin Ephland, 88, of 494 Parkview Drive, died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at the home of her daughter in Rock Hill, S.C., after two months of failing health.
A native of Schuyler, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Guy Bernard Ephland Sr., and the daughter of Mr. Walter Marion Pamplin and Mrs. Blanche Gertrude Thomas Pamplin, both deceased. She was a member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, where she was a member of the Annie Bason Sunday School Class, a former Circle Leader and member, and was made a life member of the Women of the Presbyterian Church in 1966.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William C. (Nancy) Oliver of Rock Hill, S.C.; a brother, Mr. Walter Lewis Pamplin of Wilmington; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, 1st Lt. Guy B. Ephland Jr.; a sister, Mrs. Frances Cornelius; and four brothers, Mr. Randolph Pamplin, Mr. George Pamplin, Mr. Ashley Pamplin and Mr. William Pamplin.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington by Dr. Charles Williams and the Rev. Genie Martin.
The family will be at the home from 6 to 8 this evening.

McLEANSVILLE - Mr. Melvin Bruce Hester Sr., 71, of 5005 Hiddenbrook Court, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1998.
Born July 16, 1927, in Greensboro, he was the husband of 50 years of Mrs. Jewell M. Hester, who survives, and the son of Mr. Otis Hester and Mrs. Lorena Crabtree Hester, both deceased. A lifelong resident of Guilford County, he was a retired sales manager with Made-Rite Sandwich Co. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Group.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Buddy (Julia Hester) LaMarr of Gibsonville; a son, Mr. Bruce Hester of Greensboro; two sisters, Mrs. Charlie (Odie) Jones of High Point and Ms. Snowdean Shankle of Thomasville; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel. Burial will be in Westminster Gardens.

MEBANE - Mr. Arch Bradsher 'Pop' Robinson, 83, of 2502 N.C. 119 South, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields after a critical illness of one week.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Alice R. Robinson, and the son of Mr. Odie Robinson and Mrs. Lula Reagan Robinson, both deceased. He was a retired employee of Craftique Furniture Company and a member of Charity Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Diana R. Thorneberg of Mebane, Ms. Debbie R. Peele of Topsail Beach and Ms. Lori Robinson of Roxboro; a son, Mr. B. Wayne Robinson of Graham; a sister, Mrs. Christine Tuck of Mebane; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Faith Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Spake and the Rev. Max Allman. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Mebane.
