Mrs. Hilda Mae Batton
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Hilda Mae Batton, 70, of Kent St., died at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at her home after one year of failing health.
A native of Durham, she was the wife of Mr. Jesse "Bud" Batton, who survives, and the daughter of Mr. Ike Tripplett, both deceased. She retired from Collins and Aikmen after 20 years of service. She was a Baptist.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Mary Lange of Burlington, Mrs. Brenda Fargis of Graham and Mrs. Diane Underwood of Goldsboro; a brother, Mr. Elijah Tripplett of Durham; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Jerry Wilkins.
The funeral will be conducted at 3p.m. Monday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Dan Bartel, pastor of Northside Presbyterian Church.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary one hour before the service.

Mrs. Mary H. Dodson
GRAHAM - Mrs. Mary Rebecca Hamby Dodson, 78, of 3518 Mount Willen Road, died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct 18, 1998, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill from injuries received in an automobile accident.
A native of Wilkes County, she was the wife of the late Mr. John Elmore Dodson, and the daughter of Mr. Willis Melvin Hamby and Mrs. Annie Scarborough Hamby, both deceased. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, and a lifetime member of the Methodist Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Williams of Graham; two sons, Mr. Virgie Dodson of Yadkinville and Mr. Keith Dodson of Haw River; three sisters, Mrs. Allene Apple of Greensboro, Mrs. Telza Pendergraph of Burlington and Mrs. Alma Shore of Haw River; two brothers, Mr. Clayton Hamby of Mebane and Mr. Hight Hamby of Whitsett; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-step grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Edna Shoffner and Miss Myrtle Hamby; and two brothers, Mr. Fred Hamby and Mr. W.A. “Alec” Hamby.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Benji Kelly, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6:30 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Opal M. Dean
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Opal Melton Dean, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at her home.
Born May 22, 1924, in Moore County, she was the wife of Mr. Jesse P. Dean Jr., who survives, and the daughter of Mr. E.L. Melton and Mrs. Gertrude Melton Mashburn, both deceased. She was a retired legal secretary, and worked in several law offices in Charlotte. She was a member of Plaza Presbyterian Church, where she was active, having served as an elder in the church and as past president of the Jolly Elders.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Janes D. Kuykendall of Alamance; a son, Mr. James F. Dean of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; and a brother, Mr. Roy Mashburn of Sanford.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Plaza Presbyterian Church by the Rev. G. Thomas Tate.
The family will be at Hankins and Whittington in Charlotte from 7 to 8:30 this evening.

Mr. Joseph H. Hopkins
BURLINGTON - Mr. Joseph Hurley Hopkins, 80, of 2802 Pinewood Trace, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at his home after four years of failing health.
A native of Pittsylvania County, Va., he was the husband of Mrs. Louise Hackney Hopkins, and the son of Mr. Joseph Beamer Hopkins and Mrs. Fannie Poteat Hopkins, both deceased. He was a retired driver with Associated Transport and a member of Teamsters Union. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. Charles Donald Hopkins of Harrisburg, Va., Mr. Joseph Ronald Hopkins and Mr. James Beamer Hopkins, both of Gibsonville; a brother, Mr. Raymond Hopkins of Danville, Va.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Sandra Lee Hopkins; and a brother, Mr. Bill Hopkins.

Miss Tiffany N. Long
BURLINGTON - Miss Tiffany Nicole Long, 10, of 439 Logan St., died Friday evening, Oct. 16, 1998.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mr. Donald Clayton Long Jr. and Ms. Barbara Ann Powell, who both survive. She was a fifth-grade student at Hillcrest Elementary School. She attended Lowe Memorial Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors other than her mother of Newport, Ky., and her father of Lisbon, Ohio, include her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Nancy Long of the home; her paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Alpha Lindburg of Mebane; two sisters, Miss Sasha Long and Miss Nicole Long, both of the home; and eight brothers, Mr. Daniel Long, Mr. Samuel Long, Mr. Bobby Long and Mr. Thomas Long, all of the home, Mr. Joseph Long, Mr. Robert Long and Mr. Benjamin Long, all of Burlington, and Mr. Charles Long of Fort White, Fla.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lowe Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Gindlesperger. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.

Mr. Cecil H. Tomlinson
BURLINGTON - Mr. Cecil H. Tomlinson, 86, of 311 Collinwood Drive, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after five years of failing health, two months critical.
A native of Spring Hope, he was the husband of Mrs. Mae T. Tomlinson, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charles Hamilton Tomlinson and Mrs. Cora May Tomlinson, both deceased. He worked in shipping and receiving with Tower Mills. He was a member of the Burlington Civitan Club with 48 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife include two nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. Jim Hobbs of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington one hour before the service and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Helen C. Landi
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Helen C. Landi, 90, of the Twin Lakes Retirement Center, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at the center.
A native of Providence, R.I., she was the wife of the late Mr. Nicholas Landi and the daughter of Mr. Louis Capozzoli and Mrs. Conceta Cipolla Capozzoli, both deceased. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Surivors include a son, Mr. John N. Landi of Mebane; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesdy at the Chapel of Twin Lakes Center.

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Hallie Blackwell, of 418 Fulton St., died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Charlotte Hall
McLEANSVILLE - Ms. Charlotte Clark Hall, 48, of 512 Cabaret Road, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
She was a former employee of Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Burlington for 15 years.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Todd Hall of Browns Summit, Mr. Chris Hall of Whitsett and Mr. Tim Hall of McLeansville; a brother, Mr. Richard Clark of Greensboro; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mr. Thomas R. Greeson
GREENSBORO - Mr. Thomas Ralph Greeson, 87, of Evergreens Nursing Home and formerly of 1322 Kirkman St., died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Naomi Roberts Greeson. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. and was a member of Glenwood Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. John (Brenda) Munford of Greensboro and Mrs. William (Audrey) Ledbetter of Climax; a son, Mr. James W. Greeson of Climax; a stepson, Mr. Albert Vernon of Greensboro; a sister, Ms. Annie Greeson of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.

Mrs. Helon Robinson
WILMINGTON - Mrs. Helon Skipper Robinson, 78, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Born July 25, 1920, in Wilmington, she was the wife of the late Mr. Decatur B. Robinson and the daughter of Mr. Thomas H. Skipper and Mrs. Hazel Zellers Skipper, both deceased. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Brigade Boys Club, serving three terms as president, and a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Mr. David Allen Robinson of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Thomas H. Skipper of Hampstead; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakdale cemetery by the Rev. Patricia Archer of Trinity United Methodist Church.
The family will be at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel from 6 to 7 this evening and at other times at the home.
