Mr. Jose A. Cordero
WHITSETT - Mr. Jose Antonio Cordero, 30, of 7289 Burlington Road, Lot 12, died of injuries received in an automobile accident Friday, Oct. 3.
A native of Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, he was the husband of Mrs. Renee Harvell Cordero, who survives, and the son of Mr. Jose Antonio Cordero and Ms. Juana Rios, who both survive. He was employed by Texfi Industries and Haw River Dyeing and Finishing Division.
Survivors other than his wife of the home, father of Puerto Rico and mother of Wauchula, Fla., include a daughter, Miss Mileena Renee Cordero of the home; a son, Mr. Christopher Anthony Cordero of the home; four sisters, Miss Luz Maria Cordero and Miss Carmen Luz Cordero, both of Wauchula, Mrs. Diana Gonzalez of Bartow, Fla. and Mrs. Marilyn Gonzalez of Walstonburg; two brothers, Mr. Pedro Louis Bonet of Florida City, Fla., and Mr. Carlos Alberto Cotto Jr. of Burlington.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Danny Miles, pastor of Friendly Lane Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Pauline M. Booth
WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Pauline Mercer Booth, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at the Oaks in Forsyth County.
Born Sept. 16, 1913, in Lexington, she was the wife of the late Mr. William Charles Booth and the daughter of Mr. Herbert Ernest Mercer and Mrs. Alice Dabney Mercer, both deceased. She spent most of her life in Graham.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Samuel M. Booth Sr. of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Mr. Harry L. Mercer and Mr. Edward G. Mercer, both of Greensboro, and Mr. William C. Mercer of Tempe, Ariz.; a sister, Ms. Evelyn L. Burch of Greenwood, S.C.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Blonda W. Hall
GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Blonda Whitesell Hall, 83, of 704 Burlington Ave., died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Mr. Charlie Edward Hall, who survives, and the son of Mr. Henry C. Whitesell and Mrs. Laura Walls Whitesell, both deceased. She was retired from Baker Cammack Hosiery Mill and a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include a son, Mr. Elmer O. Hall of Hot Springs; a sister, Mrs. Mary Welborn of Haw River; and a brother, Mr. Charlie Whitesell of Gibsonville.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Larry Eugene Hall.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert M. Smith, pastor of Gibsonville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Mozelle G. Allen
SNOW CAMP - Mrs. Mozelle Griffin Allen, 81, of 1732 Quakenbush Road died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Extended Care in Greensboro.
A native of Chatham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. A. Floyd Allen and the daughter of Mr. John 'Tump' Griffin and Mrs. May Terry Griffin, both deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Wesleyan Church, where she was a trustee and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Wesleyan Women Missionary Group.
Survivors include three sons, Mr. Lynn Allen of Snow Camp, Mr. Van Allen of Liberty and Mr. Griffin Allen of Lexington; two daughters Mrs. Charlie (Pamela) Causey of Liberty and Mrs. Steve (Patricia) Morgan of Greensboro; two sisters, Ms. Bernice Webster and Ms. Agnes Pickett, both of Burlington; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Fern Griffin.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Roger Coburn. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Sadie P. Rice
REIDSVILLE - Mrs. Sadie Pegram Rice, 89, of 1614 Rice Road died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at her home.
A native of Rockingham County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Stephen N. Rice, and the daughter of Mr. John A. Pegram and Mrs. Rebecca Brincefield Pegram, both deceased. She lived in the Cherry Grove community of Caswell County most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Camp Springs United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women's Society.
Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Martha R. Hamlett, Ms. Kathleen R. Aldridge and Ms. Janice R. Vernon, all of Yanceyville and Ms. Grey R. Smith of Elon College; 14 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-stepgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Betty R. Cobb; three brothers, Mr. Bart Pegram, Mr. Virgil Pegram and Mr. John Allen Pegram; four sisters, Ms. Mamie Pegram, Ms. Nellie Stallings, Ms. Nannie Piner and Ms. Frances Hall; and a grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Camp Springs United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Litzenberger. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thelbert Barbour
BURLINGTON - Mr. Thelbert A. Barbour, 91, of 446 Parkview Drive, died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at his home after four months of failing health.
A native of Johnston County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Verdie Hay Barbour and the son of Mr. O.P. Barbour and Mrs. Lelia Parker Barbour, both deceased. He was the retired owner of Davis Street Pharmacy and a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn B. Lowder of Gibsonville and Mrs. Linda B. Kerns of Elon College; a son, Mr. Frank F. Barbour of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Mr. A.F. 'Pete' Barbour of Burlington, Mr. O.P. Barbour Jr. of Raleigh and Mr. Raeford Barbour of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Buena Talton of Raleigh and Mrs. Julia Slayton of Florence, S.C.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Watkins of Burlington; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington by the Rev. R.E.L. Moser and the Rev. Suzanne Cloyd Hultman. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Juanita D. Hazell
SANFORD - Mrs. Juanita Day Hazell, 91, formerly of 212 Shaw St. Greensboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at Laurels of Chatham Nursing Home.
She was a teacher for the Burlington City School System for more than 32 years.

Mr. J. Ralph Cumbo
BURLINGTON - Mr. J. Ralph Cumbo, 82, of 105 Tarleton Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Damascus, Va., he was the husband of the late Mrs. Elsie Barnwell Cumbo, the late Mrs. Lydia Juanita Lowe Cumbo and the late Mrs. Mabel W. Mitchell Cumbo. He was the son of Mr. Charlie Washington Cumbo and Mrs. Dixie Savannah Harrison Cumbo, both deceased. He was retired from Cannon Mills in Graham and of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Terry Jo Rutter of Smithfield, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Zenobia Roberts and Miss Blanche Cumbo, both of Abingdon, Va.; and one grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. R.E.L. Moser.
There will be no visitation.

Mr. Lloyd R. Byrum
GREENSBORO - Mr. Lloyd Raye Byrum, 62, of 218 N.C. 29 North, died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after six months of failing health.
A native of Corapeake, he was the son of Mr. Baker Byrum and Mrs. Belle Dail Byrum, both deceased. He was owner and operator of Somers Seafood Restaurant in Burlington. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vicki Byrum Hale of Gates; a son, Mr. Richard Raye Byrum of Gates; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Belle Bass of Edenton and Mrs. Lois Turner of Gatesville; a brother, Mr. Rufus Byrum of Suffolk, Va.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Middle Swamp Baptist Church in Gates by the Rev. Russell Blanchard, pastor, and the Rev. Billy Presley, pastor of Reynoldson Baptist Church in Gates. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

GRAHAM - Mrs. Kathleen Robinson Barnes, 78, of 704 Washington St., died at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at her home after one year of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Samuel Hasten Barnes and the daughter of Mr. Charles E. 'Ed' Robinson and Mrs. Cletus Martin Robinson, both deceased. She was retired from Robinson Grocery and K-mart. She was a member of Providence United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Mr. Sammy Barnes of Graham; a brother, Mr. C.D. 'Jack' Robinson of Burlington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Providence Memorial cemetery by the Rev. Darryl Peebles, pastor of Providence United Church of Christ.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home of her son, Mr. Sammy Barnes, 1246 Geneva Albright Road, Graham.
